i forgot how beautiful his ‘vertigo’ poster was. my fave still remains his classic poster for ‘the man with the golden arm’, probably sinatra’s best work as an actor and an overall great film. bass’ work on that film’s poster was simplicity itself, and so striking.

every once in a while a studio pic will gamble on a poster done in the saul bass style but it’s usually a way-in-advance teaser poster. the one that actually winds up in theatres will always inevitably be less interesting by far, with the usual floating heads and big sky. ugggh, done to death.

the advance poster for the upcoming coen brother’s film, ‘burn after reading’. just showed up online yesterday, coincidentally, but is truly gorgeous and clearly an homage to bass:

I love the difference between the two figures. It’s a nice touch.

I have always wanted that Vertigo poster. I was in an advertising agency last year and saw one on a canvas. I nearly turned into a thief that day. Thank god I had restraint

Perfect Friday viewing, excellent selection. Thanks also Greg – fantastic work.

Me? I’m lucky enough to have a signed copy of the poster for little known animated film Jojo in the Stars – http://www.studioaka.co.uk/jojo/images/JOJO_poster_Download.jpg

As it’s friday, I think everyone should give themselves 10 minutes to watch it:

awesome. Knowing the Coen’s, their tastes, references and power nowadays, one could assume that that Burn After Reading poster will remain
