Just in case you’re in the market for a new DSLR and all of the recent announcements weren’t enough for you, this supposedly leaked ad from Nikon Japan just hit the web. The word “Big” appears next to a shadowy DSLR body, perhaps insinuating an impending compact, full-frame Nikon on the horizon. Here’s to hoping this potential model bridges the rather large chasm between the D90 and the D700 and maybe even throws in some of that HD video lacking from the D700 for good measure.

Most people tend to think it’s going to be a medium-format body, which would be awesome but more than likely an arm and a leg. I too would love something between the 90 and 700–a FF camera for about $2000.
In my experience, camera bodies that are too small become too uncomfortable for my hands when used for any extended period of time. I had an XTi for a brief period of time and found that it hurt my hand, and also looked a bit ridiculous visually compared to the 40D that I upgraded to.
Many photographers will go as far to use a battery grip to the camera to give the body some added heft.
It will be interesting to see if this is a direct competitor to Canon’s 5D, offering a large framed sensor at a more affordable price.
They already have a direct competitor to the 5D–the D700. =)
I agree about heft and battery grips though. The first thing I did when I bought a D90 was buy the battery grip for it.
