Brandon Shaefer does some incredibly well executed takes on old movie posters. This was always my favorite type of project to work on, self-initiated, completely hypothetical poster art; allows so much freedom to experiment with client-type work without the pressure of an actual client breathing down your neck.

BVD perfectly executes a rebrand for 7-Eleven in Sweden, look at that cup! Projects like these serve as excellent reminders that even an experience as steeped in mediocrity as patronizing a 7-Eleven can be made desirable through good design. I suddenly have a craving for bad coffee.

A few past greats from JBL’s heyday. Love old product shots like these from magazines; the color and that gradient background style add so much.

I first noticed Sydney-based design duo WBYK’s work on my recent trip to Australia for the Tycho tour. I was at the Metro Theater and the poster for a run of Best Coast shows immediately caught my eye. Once I got home and did a little more research I was really impressed by the depth of work in WBYK’s portfolio. I was also very surprised that their work somehow slipped by me for 7 years. Lots more good stuff over at their portfolio, some of the more exciting poster art I’ve seen in a while.

For those in the Austin, TX area, WBYK are having a gallery exhibit at Mondo through January 5th

I don’t know anything about these other than that they are apparently Hungarian Star Wars posters, they don’t make me think of Star Wars at all, and they are kind of scary. Other than that they’re awesome.

We’re going to take a break from recording the next Tycho album to play a special run of shows on the west coast next month including two nights right here in San Francisco. Really excited to end off this past year of shows back home. We’ll be sharing some new songs and visuals and a few other surprises. See you soon!
