Sepalcure+B. Acab+Shlohmo+Omar S.

Cover Art by Sougwen

One record that i’m highly anticipating is Sepalcure debut album, I tuned into PercussionLab last month and Praveen dropped a track thats off the LP that I would love to share with all of you. This remix EP will have to surpress my needs until it drops.

The mighty young star of all the goth dreamy music is the TriAngle Records label, their bread and butter Balam Acab has finished his album and Pitchfork shared a single off it today. It sounds like if you slowed down a Disney VHS and tried to match it up with your older sisters R+B cassettes, pretty beautiful stuff.

This Shlohmo album is throws me off, it feels like the serious beat heads just all decide to work with instruments which is nice, lets start separating the musicians from the boys. I kind of love how this song sounds like he left a recorder in his pocket and walked around somewhere like a calm New Orleans street.

Omar S. is honestly very hit or miss, when he’s off it doesn’t just sound amateur and raw but it feels like a loop that was given up on. When Omar S. is nailing it and its stripped down gritty simple techno than i’m all in and maybe even more than the next guy. I love this mixture of James T. Cotton and Sleeparchive on this track, makes me think about how much fun it would be to own a Roland 303.

HTRK + Pure X + Niva + Beat Connection

Is it too early in the summer for such dark lush post rock from HTRK? not at all, this is classic feeling, i’ve never heard a better Suicide cover and probably never will, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

For those that need more summer cuts that you can pass out to that are in the vein of Ducktails and Real Estate then you’ll need this song from Pure X in your collection.

I found Niva randomly looking for something on last.fm(which has been my #1 resource for new music), their whole EP wasn’t bad, a bit on the popular summer indie sound but it doesn’t matter that much when it pops up on your iTunes and you run to go see who it is.

You know I love The Drums, the vocal studder here is a bit much but here’s the first remix from their upcoming album thats due out next month. September is looking to be a busy release month.

Beirut+Poolside+Mark McGuire+H. Pearls

The new Beirut has a couple gems like this one, a few of the other tracks are a bit too straight forward, makes me feel like i’m walking into a boutique in Greece that doesn’t want me in the shop because every is soo clean, still in love with all my other Beirut records, this song, and I hope he does wonderful things for a larger audience.

A great cover of Harvest Moon by duo that go by the name Poolside, Daytime Disco might start sneaking into the prep school world. #beautifully_executed

Mark McGuire will have a new LP out at the end of next month, he’s been working on it for over a year, I can’t wait to sit thru the whole thing and not touch the fast forward button.

A new one from me as Heathered Pearls, have it for free please. It’s on a hypnotic tip with some shimmering interruptions, just think of the exploration and excitement of scuba diving at night.

Sigur Ros – INNI

I haven’t listened to Sigur Ros in ages yet I definitely credit their earlier work as some of the most beautiful live band shows i’ve ever seen. As for any info on INNI, we have none besides just signing up for their newsletter and watching this video below.

Beaches+Deadbeat+Outputmess.+A. France

The haziness that this Dirty Beaches song puts me in is just unbelievable, the man has honed in on the perfect balance of song writing and lo-fi decay.

When Deadbeat is spot on his textured dub sound its some of my favorite listening music. Grabbing songs here and there from his discography can make one of the most enjoyable audio sessions for someone that is new to experimental music.

Outputmessage has become catchier and catchier, originally just making beautiful avant synth pieces but now its straight forward soft club material.

We should be excited for the new Air France album but its a bit too much for me at the 2:00 minute mark when the American Idol child star vocals comes in, I was just totally enjoying myself then made an awful face when it came in, i’m sorry but I like Air France too much to not say anything.

PIAS UK Burnt Down, Physical stock lost

If you haven’t heard yet (I heard via Rough Trades twitter) that the warehouse of PIAS UK distribution(music distributor to over 150 indie labels) burnt down during the London riots, the only info I have found is the statement below, I hope all the indie music lovers out there can chip in and help out during this huge loss.

I have no doubt that if you’re here you’ll have heard the news that the PIAS distribution centre in Enfield has been burnt down during the London riots. What you may not be aware of is that the warehouse contained the physical stock for most of Britain’s Indie records labels. The subsequent loss of income and cash flow problems that this act of mindless vandalism will bring about may well be enough to push many of the smaller operators out of business.

Our aim is to try and rally the music industry, both on the artist and the audience sides, and see if we can raise some money to see those affected through the tough times ahead.

This is just a holding page at the moment but more details will be posted here as and when we have them. In the meantime, if you would like to get involved or contribute in any way please drop us an email to: piasfundraiser@gmail.com” – PIAS benefit

Four Tet + Neon Indian + Solvent + 47.5

Four Tet shares a new song which will be coming out on this Fabriclive mix, I think long time fans will be really happy with this one, sounds like something off Rounds.

Neon Indian hits us with another single from his upcoming album and gives it away for free, head here and type in DT7UUE to redeem. Now this song puts the album in contention for one of the top 10 electronic albums of 2011.

One of the main reasons I kept checking out more experimental electronic music was because of an old Solvent song, I feel like I always owe him because he made the journey a lot more enjoyable, here’s a new one on his own label Suction which has been revived.

I walked into a vintage shop in Williamsburg last month to look at these hand made pedals/synths and I shazamed (Shazam app on the iPhone) this song, it was nice revival of what was going on in the more interesting end of downtempo.

Andy Gilmore – New Prints and Interview

The Ghostly Store just released an exclusive interview and series of prints from Andy Gilmore, below is the beginning of the interview and here’s a link to check out the rest of the designs.

GI: Tell us about your first memory.
AG: Drawing is at the center of a lot of my childhood memories, the most profound of which is watching my father draw. I remember being astonished in watching his lines take form into realistic depictions of horses

GI: So you were into skateboarding, how did that affect you?
AG: Yes, I starting skateboarding in 1987 or so, in the era of H-street. Skateboarding has introduced me to a lot of great and talented people that have guided me on my personal and professional path.

In 2002, an old friend from skateboarding offered me a job resizing print ads for C1rca footwear and Forum snowboards in Southern California. Fourstar was the beginning of working with the computer for me and I will always be indebted to the wildly talented creative staff that I learned so much from.

GI: How do you feel about music, in regards to your artistic life?
AG: Music is at the center of my artistic life. As a musician I have always been fascinated by the harmony and the physics of sound in a sense defining music as waveforms, waveforms whose properties and proportions define our scales, from which we write our melodies, in which we weave our emotions and memories into songs.

In addition to music as an experience I have been very interested in the theories, methods and language of music ”serialism, minimalism, spectralism, indeterminacy, improvisation, tonality/atonality, silence/noise, raga and rhythm these have always informed the language that I applied to design and ultimately shaped my work.
