Sepalcure+Shigeto+Software+T. Shadow

I’m always pushing Sepalcure to everyone that I know, recently they did a remix for School Of Seven Bells, it has a great early Stereolab feel mixed in with some Bonobo, download it at XLR8R for free.

I did a collab song with Shigeto, i just brought him an array of warm tones and explained to him that I don’t want to do try and write drums for it and that he should try and he did a wonderful job I think, grab it at Shigeto’s bandcamp for free.

I was snooping around on Beamer’s last.fm and found some gems by Software, this sound rides a thin line for most people, if you can get over the hump of it being too smooth and take it in for what it is then you end up with a pretty damn good listening session.

You know what i’d love is a new Twin Shadow album for the summer, i’m wearin’ this one thin, I love it soo much.

Hancock + Howard Jones + Soccio + CSN

Sometimes I need a break from digging thru eMusic and blogs and just need to post some classics. You can’t deny that flute/whistle goodness in Watermelon Man. I wish someone could write a chorus like Howard Jones these days, insanely good. This Soccio track gets hypnotizing especially when the girl starts singing. Crosby, Stills & Nash round off the 4 tracks today, keys for days, love it, see some of you at F5 in NYC tonight.

Basic Channel + Magic Mtn + Zomby + Big 200

This song is hands down one of my favorite sounding tracks i’ve heard in my life, its soo important for me to have this kind of music in my life especially when your in your own head most of the day and not in a office. Every time it starts up I feel myself loosening up and letting myself even out mentally, I need all 9:21 once it starts. [comes back after laying down and repeats song] If you come from a background where Juan Atkins and Maurizio were artists that changed your way of listening to music then these sounds aren’t just bubbling space synths these sounds are equal to peaking into the most private art collection and being able to spend an hour picking something out for yourself.

When you first hear this song by Magic Mountain he isn’t doing anything new when it comes to the people that have been following labels like Traum, Kompakt or Mille Plateaux. I guess it might be new to the indie kids, it would be amazing if old Kompakt releases got reissued because this kind of music got popular again, so I wish Mr. Magic Mountain the best of luck, I just hope he’s done his homework and knows he’s treading in a very beautiful secluded world where there is no room for any half assing because its already been done really really well.

4AD signed Zomby, wow, listen, I like it but just imagine these 2 worlds colliding.

What happened to the Idjut Boys? am I just not looking hard enough? they did such good edits, especially that one of Phil Collins, this one for Big Two Hundred is insane.

Mogi + M. Dear + Apparat +Delia & Gavin

This week Tron Legacy came out on DVD and that soundtrack by Daft Punk was amazing. Today, Mogi Grumbles is sharing with us for the first time his take on the first Tron film, above is a teaser video, he made a tribute album of all ORIGINAL songs and his friend recut the whole movie to fit this new soundtrack to it. DOWNLOAD this new track for free for the ISO50 readers. The album will be available next week as a name your own price deal / free, i’ll link it once its available.

The Matthew Dear remixes have been rolling out for more than a 6 months now, everyone from Bear In Heaven to How To Dress Well to Mark E have had stabs at it. The one besides the the Mark E one that I keep going back to is this Breakbot one, it reminds me of a sitcom theme song that never happened because of those keys and bassline, its perfection.

New Apparat! everyone flip out!

Do yo need meditation music but your sick of the wussy stuff, take it up a notch with Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom.

Radere + Peter Broderick + Machinefabriek

Radere put together a beautiful 2 track release that came out today. The sound can be explained by maybe what you’d hear if you started to daydream away while casually holding your hand out the window of a car during a long beautiful road trip, that complete relaxation that we all look for when were working away and forgetting about what might be one of the best feelings we can experience.

Hopefully many of you are figuring out my huge crush for Peter Broderick’s music, he gives minimalism warmth and reason. When he teams up with Machinefabriek then its an ultimate piece, enjoy.

On a lighter noter, can we talk about Jam Skating? this was my whole life in middle school and it completely disappeared, anyone have any good stories or more links to only older footage?

Cloudland Canyon + 18 Carat Affair + Lone

I love to sit back and let melodic psychedelic rock play for hours if its good, Lie In Light by Cloudland Canyon is a pretty consistent record that I rely on for those occasions plus it changes up and has just enough diversity, I posted a few tracks from it to make that point.

Com Truise turned me onto 18 Carat Affair’s soundcloud. Most soft rock recorded on tape and slowed down gets my attention especially if it has gentle keys over it.

A new Lone record is coming out, I heard a few tracks on his last.fm page, sounds very promising, anyone ever see him live?

Villalobos Podcast via XLR8R

XLR8R Podcast – Ricardo Villalobos by xlr8rmag

I post tons of mixes on ISO50 but I have to hand it to XLR8R for finding this decades best mix yet. Hands down, this kind of track selection from the god of techno Ricardo Villalobos. Really listen to the brilliance, i’m on my 7th listen thru, looking for a tracklist now, enjoy.

Thanks Praveen @ PercussionLab for the heads up.

Why I’m Addicted to Electronic Music Pt. 4

PART FOUR: KEVIN SAUNDERSON

This one might be a stretch for some people if you aren’t a techno fan but let me say this, its how you listen to it really. Some people only hear repetition but when I talk to them usually they only list off musicians that rely on repetition as what they like so I get a bit confused and obviously bored of our conversation and walk away. When I listen to these songs I have to sometimes get myself ready for the faster tempo material, once i’m comfortable the songs almost slows down and my head just has a great time listening to all the parts of the song that are working with each other. With that mind set you end up enjoying repetition more because you find that beauty in whats looping and the slight additions/changes. This usually never involves your full attention, it’s not like listening to the radio in the car where you’re searching for a song to lip sync to or something that you already know.

To be honest listening to the mix in full is a lot better, I only grabbed a few tracks that I thought were the highlights and all of them just cut out at the end.

Having spent my teen years in Michigan I was fortunate to have access to the best techno by a long shot which is Detroit Techno. When it comes to dance music it all comes down to this mix for me, it was the seed that was planted in my head that made me obsessed with melodic 4/4 material that ranged from deep tribal to that speedy Jeff Mills sound which is what I DJed when I was in high school. I remember buying this CD in Poland at a small music shop, I must have been 15 just visiting my Polish family. I remember the clerk playing the CD in the shop and I had to have it, I remember spending all the money I had for the trip on it. I still have the CD actually, I got it signed by Kevin and also had him sign a Technics shirt[mega nerd]. I’m just trying to be honest here and share some sort of story that ties in my obsession.

Other parts: Dntel, Caribou, Prefuse 73

Austra+Falke+Slow Hands+Craft Spells

After hearing this song by Austra more then 15 times day I feel like i’ve officially fallen in love with this song, I can’t believe we have to wait until May for the album, nice signing Domino.

I first heard this song when Machinedrum sent it to me on aim years ago but it was a radio rip so it was never worthy of a post, finally I found a solid recording of this Daft Punk-ish track by Fred Falke, its one of those New Years night dancefloor must haves.

I think Slow Hands debuted on ISO50, if I remember correctly this mix he did for us was a huge hit and his covers of Aphex Twin and M83 as Addled were definitely loved. Well I have exciting news he recently just released on K7 Records on the famous DJ-Kicks compilation series with this original track, so congrats Ryan!

This won’t be the last Craft Spells song i’m posting I promise you that, I want more of this for the summer, hear’s a taste though.
