This promises to be the most visually stunning film of our generation. Panos Cosmatos‘ new film, Beyond The Black Rainbow, feels like the best possible conglomeration of 2001, Electroma, and A Clockwork Orange. Can’t remember being this excited about a movie in a long time, hopefully it will make up for the huge letdown that was Tron.

Sadly , the reviews are mostly terrible . http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1534085/reviews . Though this still won’t sway me from seeing the film and making my own judgements . I’m proud that it’s a Canadian Indie production with stunning achievements in the visual /soundscape dept . This caliber of work rarely comes out of the country . So regardless congrats to the film makers , well done ! .
I’m pretty excited to see this too and I’ve been thinking about it all weekend! It’s looks like it’s just oozing with retro sci-fi/horror visuals (like The Holy Mountain meets THX 1138) and I’m also proud it’s Canadian… I like when people scratch their heads and wonder what the hell are those Canucks thinking? 😉

In no way was Tron a failure. If anything it was visually stunning and represents the benchmark for where our technology is at the moment.
The story may not have been to your standard, but in no way was that film a failure.

I absolutely LOVED Tron Legacy. I’ve watched it like 20 times already and I think it is one of the best movies made in the last 10 years.
I agree with Joel. I don’t think Tron was a failure either. It was visually striking and I loved the soundtrack. If you think it was disappointing because the story wasn’t very good, it sounds like you will hate Beyond the Black Rainbow. All of the reviews say that it has, basically, not plot at all which usually doesn’t make a good story.
I agree with Joel whole heartedly. And if it’s the story you didn’t like, I think you may want to brace yourself for this story. Apparently there is no plot.

The author never mentioned the story being bad guys, he only said Tron was a letdown.
I’ve followed the Director Joseph Kosinski’s commercial work for a few years and love his visual style. Even though Tron was his first full length film, I was honestly underwhelmed. I definitely enjoyed it, and have watched it numerous times. But as an avid scifi fan I hold that genre to higher standards.
The story is not the problem with Tron, the story is actually a nearly perfect and honest continuation of the original. What brings Tron down is the script. Cheezy one-liners and aimless dialog are present in nearly every scene. For me, this constantly pulls me out of the film. Lets also not forget the ‘Jar Jar’ character that is Castor. The other problem is that apart from Jeff Bridges, every actor in the movie is at best B movie actors. For a film with as bloated a budget as Tron Legacy they really could have hired better actors.
Anyway, sorry for the ramble, ha! I’m looking forward to seeing Beyond the Black Rainbow.

Tron was a letdown because it what it could have been — deeper, more cerebral, more subtly referential to the visual and cultural sensibilities of the era of the original. It still blew my nuts off design-wise because shit, it’s Tron. But I was hoping for something less slick and less DIsney-esqe.
They were aiming this at a new generation, though, so I understand why it ended up the way it is.
I love how people can discuss their opinions here and maintain a respectful heir.

went to the seattle premeire this last weekend and the move was AMAZING. There was more of a story then you are led to believe. the score was incredible too.
