For the Bibio fans that have been listening since the beginning I think you’ll find this new album more enjoyable than Ambivalence Avenue, I definitely do. I’m more of a Hand Cranked and Fi fan myself, Bibio fills in spots that BoC isn’t offering lo-fi wise and also the lead off single for this release was a real curve ball, just sit with Saint Christopher 2 times thru.
New Washed Out is coming out on Sub Pop, some of you maybe asking yourself if he’s making his own melodies this time and I truly think he’s writing all of this, its a comforting beautiful result, summer jams!
Washed Out, eyes be closed, absolutely fantastic. Roto toms never sounded so good.
Great start for Washed Out .. he nails it on this one.
I find that I really enjoy some aspects of the New Bibio album but tend to skip over other areas. I feel like he tries to get too much in sometimes. It’s great to be diverse, but in the end, it’s the melodic and atmospheric Bibio that I enjoy the most. Saint Christopher is definitely a top track.
bibio album of the year and the year just begun!
i was hoping you’d do a post on their new album . love it
Just by listening to “eyes be closed” I can get a feel for how much Mr. Greene has matured as a musician. Looking very forward to this album. Good post Jakub!
Great Washed Out track. Sounds like Moby! But I say it in a good way.
The Bibio album was great when I first listened to it, but I grew tired of it after a short while… It’s not incredibly enjoyable or anything.
His older stuff is so stellar…. I continue to spin Vignetting the Compost on a regular basis.
Stoked for the new Washed Out… this new tune is just what I’ve been yearning for from him. Chillwave all the way!
Huge bibio fan here…Hand Cranked and Fi and VtC are some of my favorite albums, Steven Wilkinson is one of my favorite guitarists…SO, shitty review:
I’ve been excited for Mind Bokeh for a while. I still loved Ambivalence Avenue, I just liked the old bibio so much. I hated The Apple and The Tooth, and I feel like Mind Bokeh is a solid mix of the two.
There’s a lot of Marcos Valle influence especially in the percussion parts on this album, and I’m sort of growing tired of that kind of sound. I usually skip K is for Kelson because it just annoys me now. Light Seep would be as good as Jealous of Roses if it kept the vocals going the entire track, but like Owen says, its easily forgettable. The key change in Pretentious makes the molasses slow song even slower. That being said Mr. Wilkinson has not only retained his chops but he’s near perfected them(notably the songs you posted). And now he has an established pop sensibility due to Ambivalence Avenue, and it is refreshing seeing that shine through his work. Excuses is actually one of my favorite bibio songs. I’ll try and forget about Take Off Your Shirt.
By the way, the new Bibio/Clark split is awesome
Ha. I was listening to this playlist, not having looked at the tracks. And paused it to download the new Washed Out track from another blog. I then thought to myself “I’ve heard this before!” Then I thought to myself, “Oh!”
Washed Out – Eyes Be Closed very shoegaze, very Engineers
New washed out = “Moby” meets “Born Slippy” vibe but its sooo good. Psyched for the new album.
even a passing mention of boards of canada fills me with deep longing for a new album. 5 years is too longgggggggggg
“For the Bibio fans that have been listening since the beginning I think you’ll find this new album more enjoyable than Ambivalence Avenue, I definitely do.”
For those Bibio fans that enjoyed Ambivalence Avenue and Apple and the Tooth and thought the rest of his albums were just crappy noise, you might be touch disappointed in the regression.
