Casino Versus Japan: Marilyn Set Me Free

Hitori + Kaiso 1998 - 2001 (Disc 1)
You may know Casino versus Japan from his track It’s Very Sunny from an older Hummer Commercial or just because his music could be compared to Scott’s earlier Tycho releases. I love him for his lo-fi crunchy bass, shoegaze approach to all the atmosphere in the background, and his lush looped melodies like in this song "Marilyn Set Me Free".

man I have loved Casino Versus Japan for years now and I have herd of this commercial but never actually saw it on TV or YouTube for that matter, until now. Not a fan of hummers, but “Its Very Sunny” is a track I love.

    jake-
all hummers should be catapulted into space, but that’s another discussion. the song is amazing, and sadly, it actually makes the commercial amazing, which I suppose is a testament to CVJ and the ad agency who put that whole thing together. while obviously not written with that in mind, the beat of it’s very sunny certainly lends itself well to the flow of that commercial.

The name kind of reminds me of one my favorite artists.

Have you ever listened to Yoshinori Sunahara? He hasn’t put out anything in years… last time I checked at least but if you get a minute check out songs like “Welcome to Japan”, “Cross Wind Take Off” and “SONY Elektro Wave”.

I suppose “Rhodes Funky Dub” is another one to listen to.

He has this affinity for airports and airplanes…. hence one of his albums entitled… “Take Off and Landing”. And decent artwork to boot.

This song is fantastic and, without a doubt, in my top 25 most played. I really enjoy their other stuff, but the beat in this song is quite addictive and I find it bouncing around in my head long after hearing it.

Casino Versus Japan’s _Whole Numbers Play the Basics_ remains my top most played record. All of his stuff is good, smart and profound atmospheres… I reallllllly wish he’d release more. Here’s hoping.
