The Echo Society’s fifth event, V, will take place in the historic The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Downtown LA on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. The show will feature new works by the The Echo Society collective alongside guest collaborators Clark, The Haxan Cloak, Ted Hearne, and Chelsea Wolfe.

V, or five, evokes freedom and symbolizes matter with the subtle addition of spirit. It moves beyond restrictions.

In addition, V will feature video projections by EFFIXX and lighting by visual designer Tobias Rylander of Seven Design, who has worked with such acts as Miike Snow, The XX, Phoenix, Explosions In The Sky, to name a few.

We’ve been huge fans of Reuben Wu since the beginning years of the blog so we wanted to share this weeks SF gallery show with the readers. Info is above, i’m very jealous since i’ll be on the East Coast.

Somewhere between 1970s concept album art, expeditionary imagery, and Surrealist painting is where Reuben Wu’s photographs steadfastly sit. His are pictures made in the real world, however, through collapsing time and merging processes, the real is transformed into the surreal, evoking a response simultaneously familiar and foreign. The photographs amplify the strangeness of place and speak to Wu’s individual experience within it.

The remnants of his processes –chemicals dragged arduously across the sensitized paper surface, infrared film shifting the world’s natural hues, light leaking into the camera and hitting the film plane —leave traces of their varied journeys embedded in the final image. Wu’s physical journey is a similar one; he treks with cameras in tow to places that, for most of us, are left to those who fall into the category of “explorer”. Considering the lengths he travels to make his photographs, the unpredictability of Wu’s materials is not exactly what we’d deem trustworthy. The resultant images delineate from the expected photographic trajectory and provide a mode of looking that is equally experiential and aesthetically unique.

Reuben Wu (b. 1975) is a photographer and musician currently living in Chicago, Illinois. He received his MSc in 1998 from the University of Liverpool.

Ghostly has always pushed the boundaries beyond being just a record label, recently for a limited time in New York they have paired up with the handsome boutique Odin and opened a shop carrying everything from the Ghostly catalog on vinyl, to limited editions shirts, headphones and some of the nicest office supply that you need to see and hold in person. We are thrilled to announce our first collaboration with the renowned New York men’s boutique Odin. Now through January 6th, Ghostly fans living in New York (or visiting) can stop by our temporary space beside Odin’s original East Village store and shop from a specially curated selection of Ghostly art, design, graphic tees, and vinyl.

Ghostly at Odin features a collection of some of our favorite limited edition prints, offered both framed and unframed. In addition, the collaboration includes a small co-branded capsule collection of our graphic tees, some never before available. The space is rounded out with our favorite design objects, selected with a mind for holiday gifting.
