You guys know Rory right? he posts on the blog, usually beautifully colored vintage car and motorcycle material, also drums for Tycho and Com Truise. Well his album “Themes” is out on Moodgadget in November under the name Nitemoves. We’ll stream the whole album on the blog in 2 weeks, definitely worth your time.

Museum of Love is a new hopeful for the DFA label, has a big hint of Matthew Dear in it.

Loving this trancey work from Miracle on Planet-Mu, a nice poppy length which gives it that replay ability.

Found this dub done by Pional, dub edit are a big go-to during the winter for playlists for yourself.

Lawrence has been a favorite of mine over the last 10 years creating structure to the mellow melodic end of Detroit techno. He has stayed true to himself and his sound so the quality of music runs deep in his catalog. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED album.

Almost a decade after his last Dial Records album, after an enormous amount of releases on labels like Pampa, Mule Musiq, Ghostly International, Kompakt, Styrax, and many more, Lawrence continues with a wonderful selection of extraterrestrial dance music: Films & Windows. From the first sparkle to the last whisper, this album is dedicated to “Angels at Night.” As the album title suggests, Lawrence as a cineaste and voyeur is inspired by an endless number of screened movies and real-life films — some only appearing while watching landscapes, stars and people passing by in front of a train window. While wondering at moments like this, strange ideas and colorful sounds occur inside the mind of the musician. The ideal approach would be to transfer these ideas into music without any norms or rules — but there is the club and it was always there. So no matter where Films & Windows started, it should always arrive at the dancefloor with frenzied people and other addicts of the outer-world’s soul. For over 20 years, clubs and nights out at places such as the Front, the ’90s WMF, Golden Pudel Club, Click, Sud Electronic, Panorama Bar, Robert Johnson, Smallville, Yellow, Precious Hall, etc., have been at the center of Lawrence’s universe. House music, techno, alien-funk, the unheard, the unseen — it is all magic everywhere.

Free Disco Edits: Hot Sense Splits Vol. 1

artworks-000059831365-9nqm1m-t500x500

Started a new disco edit series on Moodgadget, we’re actually taking demos(info below), i’ll keep posting them on the blog, with art direction from longtime ISO50 commenter H34dUp.

Moodgadget presents a new series of split singles, featuring disco edits from Brooklyn Bass helmsman Evan Michael, and introducing the secret edit project of veteran Moodgadget designer, Alex Koplin, as Choplin. An update to one of the SOS Band’s classic hits, “After All” adds a bass heavy push and pull with minor chords and glitzy arpeggiation creating a new dynamic. “Never Forget” presents a re-working of Dexter Wansel honing in on an impeccable groove you might have inadvertently passed over in the original. – Moodgadget

Modern Love is home base for Andy Stott and also this elegant LP from Miles called Faint Hearted. Its not one of those records you skip around and see if you have a track that you might listen to, its a full start to finish listen. I like to imagine i’m taking a solo trip to Berlin in fall, taking the train and not having to socialize with anyone and just enjoying the ride and the view.

This has been one the most outstanding branding for a release/musician i’ve ever seen. The vision for Oneohtrix Point Never’s R Plus Seven album has pristine art direction touching on early 90’s european surrealism which I have a have such a soft spot for. The main stand out is this video by Takeshi Murata, if you haven’t seen it yet then I highly recommend it, its like still life 2.0.

Top 5 Underrated Nintendo Songs

nintendo-nes-box
Sure everyone knows the usual Super Mario Bros., Tetris, Castlevania, Zelda, Metroid, Jackal, Ninja Gaiden, Double Dragon, etc. What I come to realize is how much of an impact it made on enjoying certain sounds and being aware of them at such an early age. Well here it is, feel free to list what you think I missed in the comments, remember the key word is underrated.

Heathered Pearls Pouring Embers Mix

tumblr_mtyyqjHXrN1rmceero1_1280

I try not to set too many guidelines when I put together a new mix, this one for Self-Titled Mag had a theme though which was remixes that weren’t dancefloor based. Over the years i’ve kept small playlists of tracks to use during mixes, tracks that I like to listen to when I work, or tracks that i’ll play out, this is definitely a home/work listen in a quiet space. I hope you all enjoy, remember Dettinger and Echospace are two of the most underrated music projects for relaxation, I couldn’t imagine my collection of music without them.

“‘Pouring Embers’ is a continuous 10-song playlist of remixes that might be overlooked because they aren’t dancefloor based. If I picked dancefloor favorite remixes this mix would have been for peak hour Berghain in Berlin or some cozy Scandinavian sea voyage. These deconstructions and reworks all have a certain concentration to them, a focus on release and a wandering curiosity because they explored the sounds that were given to them of a song that most likely picked out, that breakdown has always been fascinating compared to realigning percussion.”

CFCF + DJ Koze + Pareja + Kyle Hall

[audioplayer post=32473]
CFCF has a monopoly on engaging clean repetitive music, this new single proves that.

I’m always impressed with DJ Koze’s direction on a remix, always far out editing and always puts in an honest effort of making something special.

This new single from DJs Pareja & Philipp Gorbachev from the Comeme crew is out of this world, its this fusion of culture that is still raw and fresh feel, i’m getting Germany tropical acid vibes, thats pretty impressive to pull off.

Mount Kimbie is rolling out remixers for their LP, this one from Detroit’s Kyle Hall touches on some great thinned out house essentials.

Autumnal days feel exceptionally short in Abbotsford, BC, Canada. The sun rises but hardly invites. The inevitability of night is impending. As 2012 came to a close, Teen Daze entered a state of repose. He wrote new material, and for the first time he found the process not to be a means of escape or refuge. Rather than imagining an outward utopia, or seeking an inward sanctuary, he simply engaged his work with his reality, his physical world. Like it’s namesake, Glacier is more than solidified water adrift in a sea of home-produced electronic music. It is a collection of moments, historical particles and physical experiences, gathered into a whole. Varied yet cohesive, Glacier finds Jamison confident both as a drifter and a romantic. Lyrics are used personally and sparingly, often drifting in and out on a single phrase. “No one sees you, the way I see you”, he repeats through opener “Alaska”. Album centerpiece “Ice On The Windowsill” celebrates the notion of remaining indoors with the one you love as the world frosts over. Connecting each epiphany are wordless ruminations—like the twisted pitch of“Tundra”, the cool warmth of “Forest At Dawn”—some of the most evocative sound design in Teen Daze’s career to date. The album’s fixation on manifesting physicality translates to being a highly performative production. The role of live instruments, field recordings, and general human presence is evident in these songs. This was a deliberate choice; Teen Daze plans to tour in support of the release for the first time as a full band—essentially to actualize Glacier in the physical world.
