Darkstar Nowhere Video Promo

Its always your creative ideas and story that makes your music reach out even further to new people. This idea of 10 locked grooves on a 12″ by Darkstar is better than a buddha machine, you might want to preorder 2 of the 12’s incase one wears out.

B&S+Prefuse 73+DreamAffair+MemoryTapes

[audioplayer post=29859]
Benoit & Sergio make some of my favorite singles to play out, they have a special way of going about a build to a song, its not smoke and mirrors, its not a formula, it just feels less fabricated and more necessary than most dance song builds, the whole song is a groove, no gimmicks.

Prefuse 73 and Teebs team up as Sons of the Morning, sounds very much like early Prefuse, thank god!

The sex appeal / heartbreak is harder to grasp more than ever for any Cold Wave musician in the US and it has almost become too available so its even more difficult for a new act like Dream Affair to get the recognition they deserve. An amazing effort though, I hope to see them live and feel the authenticity because thats the best way to survive in this genre.

Memory Tapes could have made 3 songs from this 8+ minute jam, just the keys in the intro could be a AM Gold classic then there’s a mellowed Weird Tapes sounding portion that flutters around in and out. Then some sort of Dan Deacon epic mountain climbing guitar attack making this song just the most dynamic thing i’ve heard in years but I don’t know if it translate as the best decision making.

Mark Isham – Vapor Drawings (1983)

[audioplayer post=29815]
From my stacks of new age, here’s Mark Isham’s debut album. It was oddly released on Windham Hill, which isn’t known for it’s electronic influence.

He plays the trumpet, which is more apparent in the rest of the album, but listen to it’s incorporation into the first track.

It’s a beautiful release, and even if it wasn’t, the sleeve would make up for it.

Schnauss + Yuna + Aeroplane + Canyons

[audioplayer post=29806]
A new Ulrich Schnauss popped up today, great contrasts weaving in and out of each other. Feels like classic Ulrich with Bola additions. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Yuna and Kimbra both have amazing voices, probably almost equal to Little Dragon’s Yukimi Nagano, I barely ever post songs like this but hey if there has to be pop music this stuff should be the stuff that is for everyone.

Canyons give the epic ELephant single a super size and name it perfectly: “Canyons Wooly Mammoth remix”

Daphni aka Caribou New Album Stream

The pure dance alias of Dan Snaith is a gift for all DJs that want some substance in their sets. There’s a bit of Worldly Deep House, some Acid style sequencing and its all dipped in a colorful melodic brew, pre-order the 2xLP here at Merge.

Skeletons+ERAAS+Darkstar+Laurel Halo

[audioplayer post=29746]
Skeletons are one of the most underrated bands in Brooklyn for many years now, they perfectly glide under the radar and most of the band members have more musical writing talent than every band that comes thru the same venue they play that week. Imagine The Books with more passion or a Broken Social Scene made up of well travelled and more open minded people willing to experiment.

What I love about about ERAAS is the composition of the brewing swells is usually paired up with deep tom hits, it has this ritual feel to it, live it makes up this uniform feel which keeps you entranced knowing at any moment it can swell beautifully out of control.

I’ve been eagerly waiting for more Darkstar, now that Warp is helping overseeing things I see this group really blossoming into a magnificent and beloved project.

Laurel Halo has a way of turning that old spacey Detroit Techno sound and spinning into this funnel of synth working overtime.

ISO50 Exclusive: New Teen Daze Single

Our friend Jamison is putting out his album “The Inner Mansions“on November 6, 2012, on Lefse Records. He let us share an exclusive track and video for our readers. What I love about is he keeps the beauty of an expanding ambient track and adds vox and instruments that doesn’t take away from that base.

Heathered Pearls: Colossal Secret Mix

Cover Art For Heathered Pearls - Colossal Secret

I haven’t done continuous mixes in awhile but I just finished 3 completely different ones that i’ll be sharing in the next 2 months, here’s the first one I did for Incase, its strictly on the melodic side house and techno, would love your thoughts.

Colossal Secret compiles a selection of tracks that remind me of the days I DJed an on going weekly with Matthew Dear (Ghostly International) and Ryan Elliott (Spectral Sound) in Ann Arbor, MI in the early 2000s.

Like most mixes of mine they vary in the specific genre, some have been more representative of the slow disco I usually play out or the some are more low level ambience that are similar to my production but this one is special, its been in my system and it focuses on the dance floor and what I think is a passionately filled collection for people that love the deeper melodic end of House and Techno.
