Lapaglia + FiF & Weed + No Age + Hecker

Joe Lapaglia is a native of Niagara Falls that has made me realize I should dip into more of this dark experimental folk. The fusion of folk and drone is soo appealing, it keeps things interesting when you listen to his album, you get a sense of how tense he wants you to feel after a string of his lyrics, grab a free song here from his LP.

Foxes In Fiction and Weed team up for a cross country(Vancouver – Toronto) cover to make Katy Perry’s hit single a lo-fi bedrock must have, download it here for free.

I liked No Age live more than on record, their new LP gets me excited to see what they do next on stage. This additional ethereal intro in Sorts should hopefully grab new ears for the bands already impressive recent success.

I gush over new Tim Hecker, its the most interesting noise in my opinion, to be able to grab this one track off iTunes for just $.99 is just robbery.

SoftPowers+WaskerleyWay+Mux+AroyDee

With all different kinds of 80’s revival sounds going on I can’t help but fall in love with most of them usually because of their easy going pace or lush melodies. Soft Powers not only has both but this memorable effect on the singers vocals, download their full LP here.

Washed Out, Animal Collective, Daft Punk and Memory Tapes have helped spawn an avalanche of similar artists, most people complain but hey I like those sounds so I just sit back and keep finding new music to pick thru and enjoy. Waskerley Way might wear their recently found influences on their sleeve but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the hell out of this song.

New Mux Mool, you know I love it, you know you’ll probably love it, it has a hint of a 2Pac West Coast vibe, channeling Dam Funk and just a sound that in my mind is a fusion of all things Mux.

I trust the Danish you know why? because they are the home of Delsin Records a label that puts out solid deep melodic/house/IDM compilations. They’re always a go to for nights when you think you’re the only one up at 430am and you just want to space out on something with abit of kick.

Andre Obin + Blondes + Fly Lo + Karaocake

Recently I saw André Obin open for School Of Seven Bells, he is also scheduled to open for Tycho in NYC this Wednesday. He has a unique live show, he doesn’t do synth pop like most synth pop acts, he gives off this darker club vibe and its not a trendy direction either, its just a passionate early Kompakt feel with vocals, I don’t see very many American artists trying to do this. Grab this track up for free

Oh Blondes, when can I see you live, I hear great things and their EP Touched is a solid listen, can’t wait for an LP.

I didn’t know what to expect from Flying Lotus, I was hoping for loose psychedelic beat EP that would compliment his live show and extend the hype and I think he did just that. Clay is definitely my favorite track off the EP, the last 40 seconds show why he’s known for great composition and beat making.

I don’t know much about Karaocake to be honest but I picked it because it just reminded me of all the good mid 2000’s indie girl bands like Lali Puna, Broadcast, etc. that I don’t listen to much anymore.

Junip + Minks + Peter Broderick + Colleen

I haven’t been this excited about a Jose Gonzalez song since Heartbeats came out, its like he took a Kings Of Convenience song on a psychedelic drive.

One artist I keep searching for is Minks, its the perfect mixture of goth, lo-fi and 80’s revival. This song even sparks up memories of a late night good time on the shore and not just bedroom dance party.

If Peter Broderick keeps releasing then i’ll keep posting his material, one of my favorites of his genre. Has anyone seen him live? i’m sure it must be relaxing and heart wrenching at the same time. This song gets soo intense, he was made to make soundtracks I swear, i’d trust him with the task over many that are in that business.

An oldie for some, I sometimes love to put on this Colleen album, it brings me back to when this and Mum felt really fresh in my ears.

Nueva Forma Listening Pleasures

Nueva Forma has graciously allowed me to post these Listening Pleasures here for you guys. They have captivated me for the last month when stumbling upon them. Prior to this post I’ve also posted mixes 1-8 on Wanken with the track listing for each.

Each month Nueva Forma creates one of these mixes featuring artists from their own label and also guest artists whom they feel fit. The mixes are presented as podcasts and can be downloaded from the website. Each is around an hour or so in length. So sit back and enjoy the wonderful listening pleasures brought to us courtesy of Nueva Forma.

Gold Panda – Lucky Shiner [Album Stream]

Up above is a full album stream of the new LP by Gold Panda, we got the exclusive stream because you guys seemed to love it soo much on a recent post, nice one ISO50 readers! below is a small blurb about the UK producer.

““I didn’t want to write ‘beats,’” says UK producer Gold Panda, “I didn’t want bangers. I wanted songs with structure.” And yet, despite the artist’s protests to the contrary, his debut album, Lucky Shiner, is full of bangers—of a kind. “Lots of factors affected the way it came together,” he explains, “touring, mixing, moving houses and splitting with a girlfriend. Family, friends, and lovers, places I’ve never been.” It’s that mix of directness and emotion that characterizes Lucky Shiner, an album of beat-driven electronic music that’s easy to fall in love with, and to. In Gold Panda’s world, vinyl-static beats and heart-on-sleeve melancholia collide, and the results are breathtaking.”

K. Vile + S. Stevens + M. Dear + Toro Y Moi

In my opinion Kurt Vile is all over the place, I picked up one album and love almost everything and then others the one gem hits after multiple listens. Freak Train popped up and set such a good tone to my afternoon, I needed that boost, I love when music does that.

A great surprise for me at least is this Sufjan Steven glitch addition, I want to shake his hand, he could of gotten lost in my book and went into the bland well known folk world but instead he threw a high speed curve at me, much respect.

This Mark E and Matthew Dear marriage couldn’t make me smile any bigger, that synth line, the untouchable groove of 2010. Way to make that vocal work Mark, I feel like i’m stuck in a New Order break down and I love it.

I grabbed this Toro Y Moi track from the latest Daytrotter Newsletter, this talent is here to stay, you could put this song into any decade after the 50’s and it would of felt right.

McGuire+TeenDaze+Toujours+Superpitcher

Emeralds head man Mark McGuire *insert baseball reference here* is on the right track to grabbing up a Best Of 2010 song on my end of the year list. Not only is this song a bubbly lush piece of work but there’s dynamics, it blooms when the distorted guitars hit, I want more.

I have no info on this collab besides posting plenty of Teen Daze on the blog. Part of me hesitates to say this but stripped down there is some Selected Ambient Works or early Ninja Tunes love on the instrumental that makes me smile.

This pulsating haze from Toujours grabbed my ear, very airy and DIY sounding, i’m not too fond of the vox it not gonna kill me listening to it.

The new Superpitcher LP is sublime, i’m posting Moon Fever, its kind of the lone wolf of the bunch but the mood is right, should of debuted on Pop Ambient.

Emeralds + Gold Panda + Ducktails + Salem

Lately it doesn’t get any better than the feeling I get after hearing Shades by Emeralds, it’s dizzying like my vertigo i’ve been having. Anyone else have vertigo? anyways, listen to how this track grows, its like watching thousands of ferns growing infront of you in time lapse film. iTunes

Vanilla Minus is off Gold Panda’s new LP, its classic Superpitcher in my eyes, beautiful loops and an explosive vibe. iTunes

If you read the blog you know I love what Ducktails is doing, he makes music that I couldn’t even dream up making, he has a new self titled LP out, pick it up if you get a chance. iTunes

Salem is uncanny, mashing together a haunted ghetto rap with stomach churning heroine induced electronics, its an addictive listen. Preorder LP
