Slowdive + Washed Out = Violens?

This song will get its own playlist today. Tom Croose this morning shared this little number with me from a 7 inch, its a mash up by Violens of Slowdive’s Souvlaki Space Station and Washed Out’s Feel It All Around. I can’t really give you an opinion on it because i’m such a Souvlaki Space Station fan that I automatically loved it from the start. Please support and pick this up on vinyl.

Oriol + Baths + Teen Daze

I think Onra and Dam Funk have a little brother and his name is Oriol. I really love this feel, the cover actually says it all. Planet-Mu has really stepped up their signing artist game, congrats guys, I hope to hear more.

We all could fall in love with Baths, he seems like someone that would be nice to you every time you met him but thats not why I share his music, I share it because I listen to it over and over like this new song Nordic Laurel.

Teen Daze killed this Japandroids cover, i’m into the mashing of a roaring lead synth over a slow flat beat, its like if Washed Out collabed on a song with Women.

Com Truise+FOE+Gold Panda+Hotel Mexico

If Kraftwerk got a little more thuggish with their production and Joy Division sat down at computers to make their music then that project had a baby in the 80’s it would be called Com Truise. [all of that description is a good thing] The man just shoots out hits in my mind. Pyragony touches what recent synth pop artist can’t even grasp at, that flowing 80s FULL sound and this remix?! finally Pat Benatar teen girl fans can agree on something with the preppy girls, this song is an anthem for both.

Gold Panda has something up his sleeve, what he chooses to repeat and loop and lay over itself puts a smile on my face every time.

I want more Hotel Mexico, it has hints of Memoryhouse but with that violin intro it gets abit hoe down-ish but in a good way, maybe some similarities to Small Black even, whatever it is I want more.

Ratatat Stock Footage Video

The video for Ratatat’s new single Drugs is absolutely horrible, which is exactly what they wanted. Carl Burgess scoured the depths of the Getty Images archives and pieced together this string of painful moments set to music. The recycled mediocrity vibe is strong and there is a fair amount of uglification going down via some video post. I have to imagine someone involved in this project is a big Tim & Eric fan, and perhaps watched one too many Aphex Twin videos.

Memoryhouse 1986 Summer Fire mix

Just grabbed a few songs from a mixtape Memoryhouse posted on their tumblr, daydream calming selections, enjoy.

Grouper + Pioulard + Pale Sketcher + Reich

New Grouper was unveiled today, its as exciting as when I put on her album for the first time, looking forward to hearing the B side to this 7 inch.

We’re going to have to wait until October before we can get our hands on Benoit Pioulard’s third LP Lasted. I follow his website though because he usually puts together limited runs of the record before the official release date, they sometimes include stickers, DIY packaging and polaroids.

Justin Broadrick has a history of creative work, as Pale Sketcher he touches more on the Ulrich Schnauss end of what we know. If City Centre Offices was around dominating today’s gorgeous instrumental market then they would be drooling over this record to add to their catalog.

We all hopefully have had a chance to enjoy a Steve Reich piece at one point or another, well this one grabbed my ear from the other room yesterday. Notice the vocal melodies Mr. Reich is duplicating and matching the notes he’s playing, beautiful work to just let play on.

Matthew Dear Playlist

With Matthew Dear’s recent release of his new album Black City and 10+ years under his belt of releases under different monikers I felt like the time was right to share what this man has actually created over the years which is an inviting song writing style for a dancefloor and the soundtrack to a night with friends. Moody at times, hidden storytelling and hypnotic rhythms that touch on similarities of David Byrne/Brian Eno work, I really believe in Matthew’s sound as something revolutionary, so here’s an 18 song playlist of songs that have made my day at one point of my life.

With strong art direction by Will Calcutt and recent covers by Michael Cina of alias like Jabberjaw, Matthew has always had a tight branding campaign that not only shows his personality but is always so thought thru and cared for.

I really hope everyone can find the beauty in Audion, False, and Jabberjaw, those songs seem long and repetitive to a fresh new pair of ears but even after the first listen to songs like Just A Man I feel like there’s a natural instinct to enjoy that organic sounding drive, swelling and circular feeling the songs gives off.

Taken By Trees+Candy Claws+Sufjan+CFCF

A select few songs by Taken By Trees have been a stand in for my Kings Of Convenience needs recently, attractive slow guitar and melody and a voice to hum along to.

There’s no rush in Candy Claws’ In the Deep Time, it as if Mum matured and worked with someone like Library Tapes.

Foxes In Fiction has been doing some covers lately and I had to share this one he did of Sufjan Stevens’ John Wayne Gacy Jr.

Just to change speeds since its Friday and I just posted 3 bedtime style tracks, here’s a new Nacho Lovers spin of CFCF off the new remix EP.

OLDE ENGLISH SPELLING BEE Playlist

For some relaxing diverse lo-fi I don’t think it gets any better than the output of Brooklyn’s Olde English Spelling Bee. I was introduced to them by grabbing up the Ducktails LP and fell back in love with them after hearing Stellar OM Source, enough talk I hope you enjoy this label and if you like anything by them buy direct and support a special label like this.

Weed+Yo La Tengo+Kozelek+Forest Swords

I met Willy Anderson before I knew he made music under the name Weed. He was kind, straight edge(had to throw that in because of his band name) and the quietest guy on the field during a late night wiffle ball game. I remember wanting to talk to him because he was wearing a Winnipeg Jets hat in Brooklyn which meant that he might of had the unhealthy obsession about 1990’s NHL hockey as I did. After finding his music I had to share it with friends plus also collab on a shirt idea which is a mixture of his EP art and the Vancouver Canucks logo, so the above imagery is that result.

I always thought Yo La Tengo’s Summer Sun record to be the best record to listen to it with friends while doing something outdoorsy like canoeing or camping, never tested it but i’m sure it would hold up to my expectations.

I saw Mark Kozelek the other night, I hope the people in San Fran caught him as well recently. He was selling all his albums for only $10! after the show so I picked up the live session one from 2009, definitely disappointed, he did a great job with my favorite song Carry Me Ohio.

Sadly I don’t know much about Forest Swords but that never stops me from posting a bands music. The echo on the vocals at 2:17 and 2:31 is what grabbed me, I want it to loop forever! is it going thru a guitar?! whatever is going on, i’m a fan.
