The Fantastic Symphony Washed Out Mix

You would all tell me if my frequent posting on Washed Out was unhealthy right? well this is somewhat special since its a mix from his blog that you can download for free. Its really crispy and diverse like finding a damaged cassette mix from the basement of your favorite radio station that 25 years old and playing it.

CityCenter+FoxesInFiction+ArielPink+Girls

You maybe remember City Center from my Top Albums of 2009 list, the project is still going strong with plenty of releases planned like this limited pressing EP on Quite Scientific that really grabbed my ear. The duo is always on the road and really great live, I highly recommend seeing a live show.

Foxes In Fiction has a pure honest sound, it touches on the softness of Atlas Sound yet keeps this youthful honesty that is not as common in music these days. Ativan could be the perfect love song for this day in age, this might be the closest you’ll get to feeling that fuzzy feeling about someone and sharing a soda.

Ariel Pink keeps surprising me with his progession in sound, we went from lo-fi to AM Gold and i’m not gonna complain at all, he does it so well.

Girls In The Eighties has that vocal in lo-fi where I find it harder to share with new listeners but personally appeals to me and it attracts me even more when it has hints of IDM like this song Youth Experiment.

Washed Out + James Murphy + Caribou + KBD

Photo by: Ernest Greene aka Washed Out

Recently i’ve been finding a good amount of musicians having tour only releases which is great I think, this recently Washed Out one is full of great material, I hope it becomes a trend so musicians can recoup on the ongoing album download frenzy.

The new Ben Stiller movie Greenberg features a good portion of LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy doing the soundtrack, these tracks like Sleepy Baby always are the best, still hunting down one from the ending of the movie KIDS which I loved but never found out what it was.

Nite Jewel remixing the new Caribou single, a must hear.

A wonderful piece from Brooklyn’s Kyle Bobby Dunn, the drone expert has done it again with the perfect soundtrack for an afternoon nap.

Fehlmann+Flying Lotus+Paul White+The Xx

Kompakt’s Thomas Fehlmann has a new LP coming out on March 29th called Gute Luft, Fehlmann has kept himself busy in recent years doing more melodic ambient work with delightful soft kicks which makes him a pretty diverse creative since doing The Orb and his Dub material on Lowflow which I loved.

Here it is if you haven’t heard it: Flying Lotus with Thom Yorke, I think it gets better with every listen!

Another album that’s still kind of far away is Paul White & The Purple Brain which is slated for June, it is Paul White’s second album that sounds like it will touch on some 60’s psychedelic rock with some beats keeping it Paul White style.

I’m not sure if this song is off the tour only 7 inch from The Xx merch booth but its one of my favorite guitar parts by them.

Bonobo+Beat Broker+Prommer+Deceptikon

I know many of you will relate with me here on that you’ve been waiting for this Bonobo album, All In Forms has been on repeat since i’ve bought it, anyone have a favorite other than that? i’m more into the instrumental tracks.

Half of Broker/Dealer is back keeping the torch burning under the name The Beat Broker on the “California Soul” Sentrall label, file this under Gorgeous Pace Disco.

Trüby Trio’s Christian Prommer covers Detroit legend Carl Craig in a very light and unique
way, I definitely hear elements of Tangerine Dream and the some of the guitar loops in the middle really makes this one an enjoyable cover.

If you need more Mux Mool like ma then a heavy dose of Deceptikon will do, Mux turned me onto Mythology Of The Metropolis which is the new LP from Deceptikon, what a great month in music? an LP from Daedelus, Deceptikon, Mux Mool and Bonobo, this might break a headnodders neck.

BMSR+MIllionyoung+Kavinsky+NewPuritans

As promised here are the results for yesterday’s contest:
Mux Mool – “Skulltaste” CD Winners:
Chad, Erika, Spencer (I have emailed you guys)
Thanks to everyone that played! i’ll line up another free giveaway very soon, hopefully its something we will do frequently on ISO50.

Black Moth Super Rainbow I think is one of those bands that fits perfectly on the blog, they have their melodies down, always impressive synth work and dynamic range on the noise and crazy sequencing. With the addition of the vocals from the Air song, this should be a must have for the veteran and newbie listeners.

I’ve been meaning to post a Millionyoung song, he reminds me of Washed Out but a version that you might hear going out instead of home listening. The digital synth work is laid on heavy but his voice evens it out nicely.

France’s Kavinsky is probably one of the only Ed Banger artists I still listen to besides older Mr. Oizo. I can’t get away from his sound, he doesn’t always go overboard and I love the 80’s night cop chase feel and strong artist branding behind the project.

These New Puritans song is too short, even though it rides a thin line of something i’d probably never listen to(I think its the piano part and voice combo) but the horn and vibraphone playing totally redeems it!

Mux Mool: “Skulltaste” + CD Giveaway

If you visit the site a ton you might see me post a good amount on Mux Mool because he donates his sweet production to us here at ISO50 and has done some amazing covers, remixes, given away a FREE EP, and even an edit of Carl Sagan. Today his first LP drops called Skulltaste:

Skulltaste is an old-fashioned epic, and its diversity—both track-to-track and within the songs themselves—is hard to measure. Lindgren’s taste roams all over the map, but it’s this attention-deficient approach that makes Skulltaste such a smorgasbord of an album, tempting the listener with one tidbit after another. Opener “The Ballad of Gloria Featherbottom” hits a quintessential balance between giddily spiraling samples cooled by monstrous slabs of ice-water synth; later, “Get Better John” has a teary-eyed uplift, conjuring a mood somewhere between ‘90s R&B and the Chrono Trigger soundtrack; and the entertainingly titled “SFW Porn” pairs a boom-clap beat to clear-blue keys and a lazily scribbled guitar line. On Skulltaste, Mux Mool tirelessly doles out 20 tracks in 80 minutes, with not a moment of filler.

THE GIVEAWAY PART: Since the CD version isn’t going to hit the stores until next week and I have a few copies here we’d like to giveaway the Skulltaste CD(I know CD’s right? so old fashioned) to 3 people on the blog. All you have to do is post 3 songs in the comment section that you like from the Skulltaste LP and we’ll randomly pick the winners, here’s a link to the LP, i’ll announce the winners in Wednesday’s music post, good luck.

CVJ+Gravenhurst+SisterCrayon+Keepaway

A new Casino Versus Japan was recently released on Freescha’s Attacknine label, I looped this interlude about 15 times the other night, it made falling asleep easier than ever, such a rich sound.

One of the most underrated Warp artists has to be Gravenhurst, She Dances veers off into more of a darker tone that’s less folk which I know them for and its more like early Broadcast with a hint of Pavement like guitars.

Time for crowd friendly indie, a youthful pick me up and Sister Crayon is the band behind it.

I’ve only heard 2 songs by Keepaway, both have been impressive and so was their live show, again there is the Animal Collective comparisons in the sound but they wear them proudly i’m sure. I do really enjoy the way these guys sing “and I got 5 rings” i’ve been saying it over and over all weekend long.

ARMS+PerfumeGenius+SightBelow+Noveller

2 of the most talented unsigned bands right now I know are ARMS and Perfume Genius, both cover their respective sounds in very graceful ways. ARMS has plenty of excitement coming from each track that will hopefully kick off a few outdoor parties with friends this summer, preferably at a summer cabin by the lake. Todd puts the right amount of drive behind Emily Sue Pt. 2, it excites me the same way as when I first heard Broken Social Scene. If you like it then you should definitely download it here for FREE, the band is giving away their EP today as a nice prep for SXSW.

Perfume Genius touches on a Red House Painters sadness, really tells a story nicely though. You see songs like this don’t make it to the radio and I don’t get why, so much more there to enjoy that has character over someone else writing a song like this thats in a professional studio with the best equipment ever surrounding them.

The Sight Below makes beauty and misery work on a pristine level, he makes a grey day rich and a loner feel powerful I bet. If you’re a high end dark art boutique and don’t have this playing in the store then you might as well be selling rainbows and playing Lady Gaga club mixes.

When I saw Noveller play last month I was very impressed not only by her sound but how she creates it on stage, she has more pedals than some girls have shoes and gently loops her sound while playing her 2 guitars with bows, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED SEEING LIVE.
