In all honesty I just loved the grey hue everything became once it was happening, it was like putting on some sort of weak shade of sunglasses, it was impossible to catch on a iPhone camera thats for sure.
nicdesjardins – Nick is becoming a Trashhand jr. in a way, less on the dark feel and lighter use of contrast but the both love their urban alleys and natures small waterways.
andy gilmore – It might not be the flashiest instagram but if you want a peek into how Andy Gilmore starts his work or what are his visual influences then this is a perfect feed to follow.
chucknewham – Some people aren’t into the idea of graphic designers putting their overly worked photos on instagram, there are some parts that I don’t like about it too but chucknewham sometimes really nails it especially this simple edit.
The Instagram Socialmatic camera. It’s only a concept, but it’s still pretty cool. Antonio De Rosa created this concept out of curiosity over Facebook’s massive purchase of Instagram. Check out some of the desired features below, but first let’s connect.
Socialmatic is the first Instagram photo camera and it would even have its own OS called InstaOS. Here are some of the hoped for features:
– 16 GB mass storage
– Wifi and Bluetooth
– 4:3 touchscreen
– 2 main lenses: first for capture, second for 3D filters, webcam applications and QR Code capturing
– Optical zoom
– LED Flash
– Internal printer to make your Instagram photos real
– Paper cartridge with Instagram Paper Sheets
– Dedicated 4 colors ink tanks
– InstaOS 1.0, the operating system built by Facebook and Instagram
If you want you can print it directly on Instagram Paper Sheets, thanks to the internal printer. Also every Instagram photo printed from the camera has the persons Instagram username and a QR code pointing to their Instagram account.
Just catching up on Neil Krug’s recent work, I don’t think enough people saw the stunning video work he did for Gonjasufi along with the latest book he has coming out in June.
Designed as a companion book to the LP-sized “Pulp Art Book: Volume One”, this much anticipated second volume builds on the first, introducing several new characters and vignettes, while solidifying Joni Harbeck and Neil Krug’s position as the hippest ex-Kansans in the contemporary art world. Poliziotteschi films were a major influence for Volume Two, in particular with the “Heist” series, which introduces Farrow, Patti and Tash. Jackie, Mystic White Flight, SummerLovers and other favorites make their appearances as well. Taken together, the characters and imagery in this fresh new collection take Pulp Art Book to a new level.

These photos above by Neil i’ve been swapping as screen savers, contrast and saturation done very tastefully, its pretty thin line.
While doing a completely unrelated search for “Dinaric Alps” I came across this wonderful collection of vintage photos from an “overland trip” made by Tony Stead from England to NZ in 1962. Stead’s son has posted the images along with excerpts from his father’s written account of the journey.
In 1962, my father travelled from England to NZ. He wrote a diary (B5, hardcover, blue) and shot his first rolls of colour film.
The slides sat alongside the journals in the attic for the last few decades before being digitised.
The details of the trip are fascinating, the Intro portion is a must read. Love the tone and exposure of these. And that Land Rover makes pretty much any picture amazing.

Allan de la Plante was a photographer during one of motorsports heavily transitional eras, at a time when F1, CAN-AM, and Indy Car chassis builders were just starting to grasp what they could do with these fiberglass tubs in the way of aerodynamics. A close personal friend of the late great Gilles Villeneuve, Allan captured alot of beautiful images that turned me onto racing to begin with, he always focused on getting a different perspective from the hundreds of other photographers attending any given race.

Alan Sailer creates beautiful imagery using high speed photography techniques he developed. While we’ve all seen high speed stuff like this before but I for one have never seen it treated in such an artistic way. It’s amazing how he captures just the right moment in these (the pony head about to burst is impossibly well timed). The color composition is spot on too.
If you dig through his flickr portfolio you’ll also find a lot on his process and equipment. Here are a few highlights: Some shots of his failed flash project, a flash interface diagram sketch, and his test bench setup.

Conjures up memories of the end sequence from Zabriskie Point
alemor73 – Alejandro might be known more for this architecture snapshots but I go back for his color schemes and attention to geometric details.
r3mus – What I like about his photos is that he doesn’t life in a fancy natural environment but he always gets great nature shots. Also, I never get sick of these kind of shots especially when they’re done right.
saraswebb – Sara does great with a fantasy world, its never too Lisa Frank-ish or too trendy, rides this thin line that just always keeps you interested and coming back to her feed.
Eurobus is a series of photographs featuring European tour bus designs by Taylor Holland, which was shot Spring of 2011, while on various bicycle commutes around Paris, France. The series was published by Matmos Press, an independent publisher based in Montreal (QC).
This book is dedicated to the anonymous designers of European tour bus graphics, who have embraced an underappreciated art space and made it their own.

The wonderful work of Berlin based, self-taught photographer Matthias Heiderich has been covered here on the blog a couple of times before, but I thought I would check up on him to see what he’s been up to and glad I did so. He’s posted a few new amazing series and pieces since then, which I just can’t seem to get enough of. Great color and great composition.
Below are more examples of some of my favorites (hard to pick), which Matthias was kind enough to let me use for this post.
This also marks the first of the Weekend Inspiration posts I’ll be doing every Friday. This week is about photography, but I’ll be covering other subjects, as well doing a couple of process posts, weekend challenges and other ideas I’m cooking up. This is an effort to hopefully get all of us here on the ISO50 community to continue to be involved, sharing, and inspired enough to want to try and learn new things.
