Ghostly 10 Year Seattle handbill

I’ll be heading up to Seattle later this month to Play the Ghostly 10 year show at Decibel Fest. Last year was great so really looking forward to this one.

You can see the flyer for the show above. I went with a slightly modified version of the Chicago poster / Ten Year Print to change it up a little. With this one I was going for more of a flyer/handbill feel as opposed to a poster.

Here are all the details, hope to see you out there…

Test pressing of Tycho - Costal Brake 12"

Test pressing of Tycho - Costal Brake 12 Inch

It’s been a hectic past month, I feel like I’ve been all over the place and I’m really looking forward to getting some time at home to focus. I head out to Austin tomorrow to play The Parish Room for the final show in this recent set and then I’ll have a few weeks until Seattle to get work done.

Luckily, during this time I’ve been able to get the new Tycho 12″ wrapped up and I finally got the test pressing in (shown above). The 12″ will feature a new single — “Coastal Brake” — along with 3 remixes by Lusine, Hatchback, and Manual. It feels good to finally have all the artwork and music done for this one, the final step is ok’ing this test copy. I also did my first offset print job in a while (click for some images) as part of this project, the posters will be included with the record. Looking back, this single has been about as much work as it was to put together my last album, funny how that works.

After I get back from Austin it will be time to really focus in on finishing up this new album. For some reason whenever I go out of town, when I return my house looks like a bomb went off. I guess things just get out of hand and disorganized when I’m rushing to get packed up. I hate returning to the mess because it’s really stressful to try to work in a disorganized environment. So I finally got some free time over the past few days and reorganized the place and got the studio back in order. Hopefully now when I return it will be a smooth transition back into work.

Jackson presents The Ghostly 10-Year in Chicago

As Ghostly International hits the 10-year mark, we’re throwing a series of pretty-big-deal parties in select location across the globe. Having torn the roofs off Los Angeles, San Francisco, Detroit, Miami’s Winter Music Conference, and Detroit’s Movement festival, we now aim our music cannons at Chicago. The evening’s bill includes music/design phenomenon Tycho, melodic electro legend Solvent, local industrial legends Kill Memory Crash, and Eliot Lipp’s Dark Party. A DJ set from Mike Servito rounds out a night of truly outstanding music.

Ghostly International 10 Year Poster

ISO50---Ghostly-10YR
Update: If you’re looking to purchase the print it is now available here: studio.iso50.com

Ghostly International (the label I record for as Tycho) asked me to design a commemorative poster for their 10th anniversary concert series. This is the first print in a series I created for the events. The others will be released over the coming week with the flyer hopefully coming tomorrow. This print will be available soon as a limited edition large-format Giclee; pricing and availability will be announced next week. If you would like to reserve a print please contact studio [at] iso50 [dot] com.

The next poster will be the individual design for the upcoming Chicago 10 Year show where I’ll be playing a Tycho set along with Solvent, Kill Memory Crash, and Dark Party. More information is here.

This first poster lists all the Ghostly 10 year show cities:
San Francisco
Los Angeles
Detroit
Toronto
New York
Barcelona
Moscow
Berlin
Chicago
London

Ghostly Poster Progress

I’ve been working on a new poster over the past week and it’s very near completion. It’s a limited edition for the August Ghostly 10 Year show Chicago installment. If you follow me on Twitter you’ve probably seen a sneak preview of the poster (the image above is a cropped snippet). The one up on the Ghostly site is a very early draft though, we just needed to get something up as a placeholder while I worked out the final version. There will be two versions: one with the artist names and one without. Bot will be available in large format offset and Giclee in the coming weeks. I’m hoping to post up the finals very soon here, could be as early as tomorrow but might hold off until Monday to make sure everything is dialed in.

I’ve been focusing a lot on music lately so this has been a nice chance to get back into design for a little bit. It’s definitely been a challenge wrapping it up though. I feel like the older I get the harder it is to decide when a project is complete; I just want to keep going through every possible permutation and variation until the finished product presents itself to me. For this particular poster I’ve been finding success in bouncing the different versions off of friends to see how they react. I’m still not sure if that’s the best idea, but it seemed to work this time around and it probably cut down a lot of the time I would have spent second guessing myself. Stay tuned for the final versions…

It’s been nice being home this weekend after the past couple weeks on the road. PackardPlantz was kind enough to post up some video from the Detroit show (see above). I’ve been using Vidvox’s VDMX for the live visuals. VDMX is an incredibly powerful, modular, realtime video app for OS X. It employs Apple CoreImage to leverage the GPU directly and the performance is pretty amazing. It can handle full HD video with multiple layers of QC effects running over three decks with no problems. For this trip I brought along the brand new Vestax VCM-600 (pictured below) which I’ve really enjoyed working with.

After my set I had the honor of doing live visuals for Telefon Tel Aviv which was really an amazing experience to say the least (see video below or click here to view). Will Calcutt shot the video with a Canon 5D MKII and it looks pretty amazing. He showed me some other shots he got of Matthew Dear’s DEMF closing set which really showed off the range of the camera. I was pretty much sold after seeing those, unfortunately he hasn’t posted them yet. Suffices to say, the 5D MKII is the strong frontrunner for HD-capable DSLR’s in my book right now.

Just want to say thanks again for everyone who made it out to the Tampa, Detroit, and Toronto shows. I had a blast playing and hope to be back soon. You can find a few more videos on Youtube here: Tycho Detroit Videos
