The 1970’s and 80’s were an exciting time for F1, largely because constructors had less of a grasp on aerodynamic behaviour. As consequence, there were some fairly unique and extreme design discrepencies between competitors during that period, Brabham being one team who’s radical attempts may have achieved mixed results, but they always certainly looked fast. They were collectively memorable due to their distinctive liveries, my preference leaning towards the Alfa/Parmalat era.

Makelberge + Doldrums + Dark Sky + Prins
[audioplayer post=32885]
Monday is the best day for this kind of music, proper New Age updated, I hope to hear more from Nicolas Makelberge, composition wise he’s fusing together some real beauties.
A real gentle one from Doldrums, loving the second half, I was expecting something more harsh or poppy after his huge touring stretch in 2013.
I posted this song before by Dark Sky but it was only a clip, needed to share and revisit the full version, this sort of defines the best of the deep tech-house genre for me.
Prins Thomas remixing Komon & Appleblim, stellar as always, opens up really nicely.
New Son Lux: Lost it to Trying
Son Lux (aka: Ryan Lott) has just released his newest video for his upcoming album Laterns. I had the honor to work with Ryan to create new photos for this album (top photo of post with all the hands is an example. The rest are here).
The video and the three other images that are stills from the video were created by the dark minded mastermind Anthony Ciannamea.
Available for download on iTunes.
Anna Fisher
Apparently this photo went viral a few months back, but I’ve just stumbled upon it and had to share it. There’s something about it that is truly mesmerizing. She’s certainly not hard on the eyes, but when you consider the NASA era it’s from, the photo takes on an especially inspiring and poignant tone.
Anna holds the title of “first mother in space.” She joined NASA as an astronaut candidate in 1978, and a little over a year prior to the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, Anna flew aboard Discovery on it’s second flight on November 8, 1984. The photo was taken for a Life Magazine story.
After the Challenger explosion she did not fly again, but she continues to work to this day at NASA as a station CAPCOM (Capsule Communicator) on the Orion Project.
Danny Heller New Works & Exhibition
Oil painter Danny Heller is back and has created a new, breathtaking series titled “City Modernism”. I’ve been following Danny for almost seven years now and as he keeps tacking on the years of experience, one can see the subtle growth and maturity in his works. I cannot praise Danny’s work enough. I never really understood what people meant when they talked about finding art that hits your soul in a way that you must own it until I saw Danny’s work for the first time. His work is really something to see in person. Speaking of which…
Danny will be presenting his new works at the George Billis gallery here in Los Angeles this weekend. If you live in the Los Angeles area, drop by the opening reception and check his work out, meet Danny and I’ll be there as well on Saturday. Details for Danny’s “City Modernism” are listed below:
Opening Reception: Saturday October 19, 5-8 pm
October 19 – November 26
George Billis Gallery

Inaki Bergera details
I love it when architectural photographers aren’t focused on the ubiquitous money shots when shooting iconic buildings.
Inaki Bergera captures subtle moments and details that would make each architect smile I’m guessing.
The last photo, Mies’ Neue National Gallery in Berlin, would make a great Lusine album cover.
Anium Opening Preview
Just wanted to preview some new work here and write a quick post about an opening I’m having tomorrow night at Subtext Gallery in San Diego, California called Anium.
The show is split into two parts, still and motion. There will be 24 print pieces on display and 4 video installations. I’m really excited about the video installations but they’re still being wrapped up, so you’ll have to drop in to check them out. The goal was to create short moving posters with no related theme. There will be 3 small 27″ screens that we’ve rehoused and one 8 ft monolith with a 50″ screen.
If you’re in the area or close, come on by! It’d be great to meet some people from the blog!
The show will be up from September 13th – October 13th at Subtext gallery in San Diego. Click here for the Facebook event. If you can’t make the opening or are interested in checking out the show online, here’s the full preview of the show and ways to purchase prints.
Honda Motorcycle Design: Illustrations
So Tycho just got back from the amazing Taico Festival [yes, really] in Nagano, and on our off day in Tokyo I had the pleasure of visiting the Tower Records book store in Shibuya. I cannot stress enough, this place was coffeetable book PARADISE, I walked out of there with slight buyers remorse, that is, until the flight back when the “in flight entertainment” consisted of endless episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond. I digress. Although they didn’t have the one i’ve been looking for for years, Part 1, they did have this second volume of Honda Design drawings from the mid eighties throughout the 2000’s. In this post I featured just a few of the exquisite hand-drawn mockups of some timeless Honda machines.
Just got my CB360 on the road yesterday [with rebuilt Mikuni carbs and CB750 forks], so this seemed like a fitting post for the weekend as I gear up to blast around the Berkshires. Enjoy!

Liveries: Renault Sport
Just a few photos of the very awesome Renault Sport livery used prominently from the late 70’s throughout the mid 80’s. Renault Sport works teams have alternated between a few color schemes over the past 40 years, but the classic black/yellow with isometric accents towards the aft has always been my favorite. While Renault officially exited F1 with the debut of Team Lotus, it was nice seeing the vintage livery on the grid for a few seasons. With so many heinous paint jobs these days, it was a bummer to see it go. Be sure to check out the YouTube clip for some very casual conversations in French at 200+ mph. More after the jump. (more…)
