A Gap Between + Walls + Dam Funk + AFX

It’s funny when people call out certain music saying “oh this has potential”, I almost started to write that about A Gap Between then thought, no I just want more of this, its a satisfying listen because that seems to be my honest reaction after just 30 seconds in.

Walls are pushing forward, taking that Kompakt sound into this synthesized organic realm full of bells over swelling arpeggios, beautiful energy.

Dam-Funk is the master of what he does, he lives and breathes a sound that might get written off to the unexperienced ear or the sport watching happy hour goers but the people that understand him are highly rewarded.

Watch this AFX video, if you never were in the rave scene and just love AFX start from 5:05

Com Truise – Brokendate – Music VIdeo

Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space…actually we’re debuting this amazing Com Truise video, its kind of a mystery/love story meets gaming thing that actually has some feeling to it, amazing work by the 10 lb Pictures crew.

Incredible, working model of an airport in miniature. Apparently this is called “real-for-real”, described by CDM as “photographing real-world things, making real things in miniature, and setting the real world into motion”. Second video has some nice making of shots. Can’t even imagine the hours that must have gone into this.

Beirut Santa Fe Video

Loving this new song and video from Beirut. The video is by Sunset Television. I don’t know much about them but I remember someone telling me they were a student collective from Columbia (could totally be making that up though). Anyways, loving the humor and aesthetic; very fitting.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Ivan Maximov created these opening titles for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for a school project. Relatively simple, compared to some of the intricate excellence you see on Art of the Title these days, but I think they are extremely well executed. I really like the combination of live action underwater footage with some slick After Effects motion overtop. Would love to see a longer version.

Tokyo Rising : A Documentary on 3/11

A gorgeous informative short documentary about 3/11 in Japan debuted today via VBS.TV and Palladium Boots featuring Pharrell exploring the country and visiting artists and having them share their thoughts, feelings and creative work.

Tokyo faces a new reality after the tragedy of 3/11. While persistent challenges still lay ahead, the city’s creative class is hell-bent on making sure that their hometown thrives. Innovative and resilient, they are defining the future of Tokyo on their own terms. We put our boots on and went exploring.

Sigur Ros – INNI

I haven’t listened to Sigur Ros in ages yet I definitely credit their earlier work as some of the most beautiful live band shows i’ve ever seen. As for any info on INNI, we have none besides just signing up for their newsletter and watching this video below.

Nosh 404: Process Post

There’s always been an arms race of sorts, between startups, surrounding their 404 pages. Often times sites do something unusual on this (hopefully) seldom viewed page. When we first started working on Nosh, we had a lot of fun brainstorming ideas for our 404 page. We wanted it to be crazy and I think it ended up being just that.

Above you will find the video that became our 404 page. It’s loud, crazy and weird. Definitely the most fun I’ve had on a Sunday in a long time. I’ve written up some production notes here — if I miss anything feel free to ask in the comments and I’ll be sure to answer. Follow me on Twitter here.

Drums+M. Dear+Horrors+J. Maus Videos

I’ve been trying to watch more music videos lately, its actually a good exercise to help with my attention span for more popular vocal music. These 4 video have definitely caught my ear, I might do this more often if you guys like it.

Kickstarter: Holtermand & Navis

So many great Kickstarters have been popping up and this one seems very close to the ISO50 family, below is info on Kim Høltermand & Tim Navis Outliers project:

This October, with the help of the Kickstarter community, a small group of filmmakers, photographers and musicians are setting out on a journey to explore the remote countryside of Iceland and document our experiences with the landscape, residents and traditions we encounter. The end result, a beautifully packaged box set of the film and companion soundtrack, will be released to backers of the project as a physical artifact of the unique and awe-inspiring experience. We can’t wait to share the results with you.

The project — anchored by internationally renowned photographers Tim Navis + Kim Høltermand and aided by film collective Scenic and composer Deru — will be unique in its improvisational spirit. The group will create a series of short films at various locations throughout the island, inspired by moments of discovery and chance occurrence. Tim’s sun-drenched SoCal landscapes and Kim’s cold, architectural abstractions provide the perfect visual foundation, and fans of their work can imagine how exciting a collaboration between the two will be.

We’ll be sharing our trip in inventive ways with supporters, providing a real-time window into an experience that the community helped to make reality. Upon our return, Scenic will edit a series of short films, featuring an original score by Deru and a full-length soundtrack featuring contributions from select musicians and contemporary composers. Tim + Kim will create an archival photo book and release a limited run of exclusive prints for the Kickstarter community.

Your donation will help provide travel and accommodations while our small crew films and photographs the trip, and will allow us to produce truly stunning physical artifacts that showcase the beauty and wonder of Iceland. We hope you’ll join us on our journey, and we thank you for your support.
