Dusty was over tonight and we were listening to some Datasette. That along with Jakub’s mention of Jason Cawood’s excellent “Salvaged” set on Flickr got me thinking I need to do a post on both. So it is; most of the songs were cut from Datasette mixtapes by Dusty so they don’t really have official names that I know of.

p.s. if anyone can find me a link or something to “Space and National Security”, the full film, that would be greatly appreciated. saw a clip of it on Nova “Astrospies”, and now im totally obsessed. heres the clip: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6ae75_space-and-national-security_tech

You’re right about Wall Street w/Charlie Sheen; I do very much get that “1980’s film score” vibe from the tracks posted here. Good stuff, nonetheless…

It’s interesting that the poster (Scott) thought to pair the music with images. I wonder if he felt the same way.

oh man, i just d/l’d the full “business funk” mixes. they are pretty spectacular. i keep imagining the awesome corporate training vids they must have come from. sweeping shots of a huge offices with tons of cubicles, quick dolly shots of hallways filled with old computers and hot, fast zoom -ins on secretary-chic dressed women with big hair, big glasses and silk blouses handing papers to each other like their lives depend on it.

datasette and that flickr set were meant for each other. awesome.

  8. Everytime I visit this blog, I’m kicked back into the past. Love it 🙂 Somehow it’s wonderfully refreshing. Thanks for all the great musical and visual inputs. Truly inspiring.

I’ve always appreciate the visual consistency of this site/(now) blog. And when I ran across this on youtube I thought about how “ISO50.com” it was with the old film look and electronic “remix” noises on old hardware.

If this has appeared on this site before, then I apologize as I must have missed it!

so this is why my flickr hits have been going through the roof lately!
i haven’t thought about these pictures in ages so it’s nice to have them re-appreciated. i only had about 1/4 of the entire series on flickr before yesterday so i’ve scanned & uploaded about 16 more from the archive. there’s still tonnes left so i might put a few more up this weekend . . .

  15. jason cawood says:

yep, they’re up. the new ones are mixed in with the others in the salvaged set, but in my regular photostream they’re all together on the first and second pages.

  16. Scott says:

    nice, thanks man, great stuff…

  17. Hate to be a stickler, but it’s Datassette with two s’s, and yes, he is rad! 🙂
