Update: Sangki Kim of Kee Utility writes: “Desk Phone Dock has been modified to fit iPhone 4. The product will be available from July in some countries.”
With iPhone-Frenzy-2010™ in full swing I thought I’d add some fuel to the fire with this beautiful, yet suddenly obsolete, little peripheral from Korean design firm, Kee Utility. Of course, it will never see the light of day in this form — for some reason, concepts never do — but at least we have this nice model to salivate over. Couldn’t find any word on pricing or availability other then that it was supposed to have debuted at the China Sourcing Fair in April, 2010.
While it’s definitely a looker, there’s not much in the way of originality going on here — the dock looks straight off the cutting room floor of Apple’s design lab and hits all the cues from Cupertino pretty much on the mark. Kind of unfortunate timing to be releasing something like this when they did; apparently they don’t read blogs. I’d like to see Kee do a redesign based on the more angular aesthetics of the iPhone 4. The current base seems a bit overwhelming, I think it could do well without the curves.

On a side note, after trying to act all hard saying I was going to defect to Android for the past 2 months, I used Beamer’s iPhone 4 today and immediately purchased one for myself. I couldn’t resist, that thing is incredible. I also bought a pair of rubber tongs to hold it with in light of recent developments.
This thing is beautiful! I’d love to see one with a rosewood finish.
Have you tried Facetime yet?
Amazing. I would totally buy this. Given it’s probably $500, I would have to pass.
I had to grab the iPhone 4 as well (the display!). I haven’t had any coverage loss sans “bumper”.
I would love this redesigned for the iPhone 4.
I would love this period
Thank you for your review. Desk Phone Dock has been modified to fit iPhone 4. The product will be available from July in some countries.
So it’s a phone to answer another phone?
My workmate came in this morning with the new iphone. I was playing around with it for about 10 seconds before I realized… I’m not breathing… ‘gasp for air’
I’ve played with all the android phones, I breathed just fine with every one of them.
I don’t get it, Scott. You talk in blog posts before that you wish you could afford this or that synthesizer, or some other more important things, but you go and buy an expensive phone to replace a less expensive phone.
I’m just wondering how much faster you could obtain certain things that would both fulfill your object lust while benefiting your career (buying an expensive iPhone does not count as one of those, you could do just as well with a $30 LG phone) if you just made some budget cuts. I think removing some of this unnecessary clutter from life will give you some peace and more time to work on the more important aspects of it.
Not hatin’, just wonderin’.

John-
If I recall, on all of the occasions where I lamented not being able to afford some equipment we were talking thousands of dollars for what was usually a somewhat one-dimensional device or one that will be outmoded within 6 months (SSD, for example). At any rate, I spent 10 years acquiring gear for the studio and I feel like it’s done. I haven’t added anything in a while and when I sit down to work I don’t feel anything is missing. Of course I lust over stuff here and there, but I know it’s just lusting over something which is probably redundant.
as for the phone $199 isn’t cheap, but when I think about it, it’s a small price to pay for what I get out of it, I use the camera constantly, video is going to be awesome, I use it as a field recorder and a portable 4 track, take endless text notes for ideas, and do all the email and web stuff of course. Yes, my 3G could have done most of that, but it did it very slowly and the screen was cracked. was just time for an upgrade I guess.
But your sentiments go through my head every time I make my car payment too.
Hi Scott,
Thanks for the insight, I was too hasty to call you out like that yesterday. I’m glad to hear that you’re putting this device to good use, I guess I’m just all too used to kids back in high school showing off their new phones, or teenage girls with nice digital cameras that they never use to even modest potential. Now I can fully understand your situation from your point of view and I respect your motives. Thanks for taking the time to write back.
Ergonomics is so passé.
I am not able to see this web site properly on my cellphone 🙁
