Jonathan (B3PO) turned me onto Eric Valli’s work a few weeks ago and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since. One thing I want to do more of in life is experience situations like Valli has. You get a strong feeling that he deeply immerses himself into whatever culture he’s living in at the time. His award winning work on the Honey Hunters for National Geographic is insane. Climbing cliffs on who knows what kind of rope system with who knows how many bees flying around? Nuts. But the shots he brings home are flat out jaw dropping. They inspire me to want to buy a plane ticket to Tajikistan and find some sort of photo essay to do out there.
Check out the rest of Eric Valli’s work on his website. Hopefully it’ll inspire you to go out and travel somewhere awesome.
He does have an eye for capturing the moment. It’s hard to experience life like this when we’re stuck behind a computer all day! I used to do things like this, but didn’t have a camera (or was interested enough in photography) I wish I could turn back time! I really love the DoF used in these images, the perfect amount for every shot. It really makes one appreciate all the luxuries (as small as a corner stores) we have here in the U.S.
Wow, these are amazing. Thanks for the post.
@ Daniel,
Out of all my travels, the one major thing that separates the US from other countries is the conveniences we have. Or as you said, the luxuries. Want an Oreo milkshake and a Tuscan chicken melt with fries at 4 am in North Dakota in December? Find a Denny off the freeway. Won’t find anything like that in Kazakhstan.
Awesome!
too much emoooooooootion, must fight my feelings, love them!
Superb – thanks for sharing 🙂
This one is impressive!

Not to mention the superb quality of his work!
