Fitzcarraldo

review_fitzweb
This incredible still is from Werner Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo (1982). I’m in Bangkok right now waiting to go to Phuket to catch a boat to Koh Phi Phi Don.  Saw this pic and decided I sort of feel like this guy at the moment.  Bangkok is a surreal place to say the least.  I’ve got a bunch of pics queued for a post, should be up soon.

In a few hours you will be swiming in The Beach, you’re very lucky!
I went in 2001 and we had tropical storms because it was monsoon season.

That site belongs to a band called, The Frames. They have an album called “Fitcarraldo” with the titular track that was inspired by that movie. It’s actually one of my favorite songs in their catalogue.

(You might recognize the lead singer as the main character in the movie, Once, that’s currently making the rounds in popularity.)

Hope the weather is fine at Phi Phi, Scott. It’s really something special if it’s not too crowded. Look out for a giant log on The Beach, half the cast sit on it in the movie =]

Found your site through a link from iLoveTypography.com, great work you got here… as for Thailand… enjoy the good food, i lived there for about 6 years growing up, its a wonderful country…

  5. Pretty sure Legowelt had a song or a theme based on fitzcaraldo, I used to have a short track he released on his website, but the file was kind of messed up.

I’m going to Bangkok on monday, and then to Hua Hin! Any tips on sightseeing? I’m kind of bummed that I’ll miss your appearance in Stockholm though, but it feels nice with a vacation right about now.

Ah man, Ko Phi Phi’s great. I’ve not been there since the tsunami, but I believe a little restaurant / cooking school Pum has re-opened there. If so, check it out for some great noodles. Enjoy, Scott – I’m most envious.

#8 I beg to differ. He was intense, that much is for certain, but he was usually just playing himself: compulsive, explosive, choleric, egomaniacal, rude. Genius and Madman intertwined too closely in this man for his own good.

Pray you never feel like him 😀
