  1. “Given name Tycho…”

Awesome style, composition and type. Reminds me of the Portal and Half-Life 2 menu interfaces. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was inspired.

Well, Futura was Kubrick’s typeface. The layout is beautiful and the type works really well. It’s as if Futura was designed for that environment.

When I was a student, I had to do a poster for a showing of 2001 for a class project. The thing that I remember most about working on it was that Kubrick had created such a visually rich world in this film that I had real trouble cutting my source materials down to a usable handful. Personally I would have to say that this still stands as one of the most visually perfect films of all time. The shot with the three suits hanging in the background practically screams Mondrian and the design of the ship itself has clearly influenced science fiction films from Alien to Star Wars. Brilliant.

  6. Wouldn’t it be cool with a new track called “Monolith”? :p Maybe with the same distant ambience as in Adrift, but with a touch of outer space…

That HAL screen saver has been on my Macbook for almost a year now…

…The girlfiend hasn’t stop making fun of me for almost a year now.

brilliant! reminds me of the teamfortress/portal art style

I had been using the HAL screensaver, but it doesn’t support multiple screens. Development seems to have stalled a number of months ago, as there haven’t been any improvements released for quite some time now.
