Hengki Koentjoro is a photographer from Indonesia, where most of these shots were taken. You can see more of his jaw-dropping work on his flickr. Any idea what kind of camera was used for these?

I’d guess a 120 SLR like a Hassy or a Bronica. Maybe even a Kiev 88…?
Gorgeous shots, regardless of the equipment!
I want the entire set on my wall. Now.
I know him from Artlimited, according to tags from his photographs he uses DSLR camera

I think he uses canon or nikon and he crops photographs to square as many people do this including myself 🙂
These are absolutely brilliant. The edgy contrast is nice.
These truly are great images and great images are hard to come by these days. Why are people so fascinated with what kind of camera people use?
These look like photos Ansel Adams would have taken if he had an eye for drama rather than subtlety. They hardly look like photos. I’ve got to get myself to Indonesia.
@Area Visual & @Raf – thanks for the info and links, can’t get enough of his work!
Nice! I’ve been following this guy on DeviantArt for years (although I don’t really use DA anymore). I’ve always been blown away with how consistently he can put out quality work. Glad to see his work is getting some love.
It looks like he has a lot of his photos in some 120 film groups, as well as medium format groups, at least we know the type of film he’s using.
He uses a D700 and a 5D mk2
Square format photography has been intriguing me more and more lately, to the point where I desire to concoct a square-format mask to apply to the LCD screen of my 5D/II to aid in composition. Hengki’s photography is really quite excellent. Thanks for sharing it with us!
It looks like a lot of this is using infrared film — high contrast and shifting of color values, especially in foilage (appearing white) and dark skies. I could be wrong though. Maybe his editing is in post.
Does the camera ever matter? 😉
But besides film, he mostly uses DSLR (D 700 & 5D mkII). Hengki is one of the photographers who is being represented by my company (http://www.ververeps.com/category/photographer/), thank you for the feature.
ISO50 is my favorite blog of all-time, so this means a lot the me. Thanks again!
Chris.
It is not the camera, it is the man behind it that makes the photograph special. Stop worshiping machines and use your minds eye.
Make art.
Hey! I’m cone from Indonesia and have been fan for Mr Koentjoro for at least 3 years. I knew from his deviant art previously he used D80 Nikon and for the time being, according to a blog I forgot which one, he uses both of Canon 5D and Nikon D700.
But for photography, in my humble opinion, is not mere from the camera. It’s from user and how they conduct the execution, information and brought the soul by..
Thanks for this post. The pictures are awesome. It’s very inspiring!
