Iceland Wants to be your Friend

Go here right now icelandwantstobeyourfriend.com. This marketing campaign is absolutely hilarious, genius, and refreshing. I want to be Iceland’s friend, a lot, after reading through all this (go to the Twitter or Facebook page for more fun). I’ve always wanted to go there anyway, but this certainly supplements my desire. I had no idea Iceland was such a cool person, thanks Takk Takk.

I have heard that many people use the Inter-nets to make friends, and to talk about themselves. So that is what I want to do, too. I know you are probably very busy doing important things, but if you want to be my friend, you can.

Halló Alex. I am glad that you like my Inter-nets. (The people who help me make them will also be very glad about it when they wake up tomorrow.) I, too, think that it would be a very good idea for you to visit me in a flying machine one day. (You are a very clever man with many good ideas, I think.) Then, you can walk all over me, and look around, and maybe even turn off your tele-phone for a few minutes. Or you can talk to my people. (They are good people, and you can tell them that I said they should be very polite to you, and always show you which way to go if you get lost on me.) Bless bless, and see you soon, maybe.

Hello Iceland! Well, in fact, I have been meaning to visit you for many days. I am sad we have not met before but I am sure we will soon!

I am intrigued by these “flying machines” you mention…could these assist me in my journey to find you and be merry?

I am sorry to say I don’t know how to turn off my tele-phone. Perhaps when we are united you can show me?

  3. Iceland says:

Do not be sad about this Alex — most people have never visited me.

Many of them just like places that are not as windy as I am, with sand that is not black like the sand in my Vík (you can see it here: http://goo.gl/dv2XC), and maybe with horses that are bigger than my horses (who want to be your friends: http://goo.gl/5cJQA), and where the people do not play music so loudly (hold your ears: http://goo.gl/BRQPS) and where they do not have to climb any mountains (like these: http://goo.gl/MNijX).

But that is okay, because even though I have a lot of space, it is sometimes better when there are not too many humans.

    Bless bless,

  4. Alex says:

Thank you Iceland, for your kind words. Initially I was worried my visit might increase your total human count, but perhaps this is OK because I am actually quite fond of average sized horses, boisterous music, and unusual heat-absorbing sand. Clearly I would stay where others might flee.

I do have a question for you actually. When should I come visit? I’m sure someone as popular as you must have an enviable social calendar. Are you busy this weekend? For drinks? If not soon, perhaps we can run away together in May and have many adventures.

I look forward to your response. I think I love you.

    Yours.

I recently returned from a trip to Iceland. The landscape is truly out of this world. One minute your engulfed in black and grey. Not a bit color. Then you see red on the horizon and are soon engulfed in this martian landscape.

IcelandAir is the best flying machine option. I would recommend renting a car($300-400) and circumnavigating the island. It is also extremely hitch-hiker friendly, if money is a problem. Gas will cost about $100 per tank and depending on what car you get, a total of about $350-450. Food and alcohol are also rather expensive. So buy as much in the duty free as you can.

    Halló again Alex —

A lot of people wonder about when they should come and visit me.

Many people like to visit me in the summer, when my nights are bright, and they can stay up all night with my people, and then fall asleep in strange places:

Others like to visit me in the winter, to see my Northern Lights, even thought they do not always come out like people want them to:

But you can come and visit me when you want. I am here, and there are flying machines landing on me every day.

Went there last year and it’s totally the most inspiring place place I’ve ever been too, next to Japan.

    Sorry Iceland.

But the I got from there still make me warm on the inside.

Hello Iceland, I also heard that you’re not really good at keeping track of numbers whenever they are involved with economic affairs. Is that so?

Hey, that’s not Iceland’s fault, that’s mistakes Iceland’s people have made. Leave Iceland alone!
