ISO50 On Twitter

ISO50 On Twitter
So considering all the infinite hype surrounding it, I’ve finally been experimenting with Twitter over the past couple weeks and I have to say, it’s been surprisingly fun. I hooked the blog up so that all the posts are linked up on my Twitter page (using Twitter Tools) and it’s been an interesting way to communicate via a more direct route than is possible with the blog alone. I’ll be posting up giveaways, extras that didn’t make the blog, process stuff (pictures of the daily work), and random other tidbits here and there. It will also be the front lines so you’ll be the first to hear about anything useful or interesting before it hits the blog.

So there you have it, ISO50 on Twitter, join up! @ISO50

Damn, you even make the little twitter notification look beautiful.

I have Twitter… and I still yet to understand its greatness. Perhaps Twitter is the new Facebook… Just like Facebook was the new Myspace and Myspace was the new Friendster… etc…

Maybe I’d use it more if Twitter would let me Tweet from my phone… God.. I never thought I’d ever say that in my life.

That poster makes Twitter look so sexy; damn. You almost got me.

Still, I’m not going to enlist to Twitter. It looks pretty fun, but I know that in the end it feels like I’ve logged in way too often. After I grew up mostly digitally, I want to distance myself a bit from it. It’s works very addicting for me, while I know I like ‘the real life’ a bit better (although I hate people who are talking this way :P).

Besides – I really don’t understand the popularity. Because Facebook has got a similar thing like this; it’s only less dedicated. But Twitter has spawned all these supporting/meta sites, what looks really crazy. I like the simplicity of Twitter, but it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have incorporate some extra functions. Just like Tada-list: it’s a great service, but I think they have chosen to cut off a couple of essential functions in the name of usability.

  4. Finally, I was originally following you on Twitter a few months back and was like “Hey, Scott, update your Twitter” which was followed by the sound of crickets.

Then on the assumption that you never checked your Twitter profile I sent you an email, more cricket noises.

Finally a comment on the blog, and again, more of the crickets.

Eventually I just removed you from my following list. You should be punished.

Nice design with the birdies, Scotty ol’ boy.

well, looks like I’ll finally have to fall in line with twitter now…I fought it for as long as I could, but finally there’s a good reason to join now.

  7. Scott says:

daniel, sorry! the email can get overwhelming sometimes, I will dig around for it. sorry I missed it.

  8. Haha, thank you, a response! Sometimes you really make me wonder though… seriously. Ok, you don’t need to be punished.

Just disable the spam filter that checks for “Daniel Carvalho” in the from address 😉

  9. Scott says:

    Daniel-
actually, that is a big problem. every year or so my main contact address gets inundated by spam and I have to move everything over to a fresh address. that year was up about 3 years ago this time …. just been super lazy getting things back in order. probably going to switch to pommo or something to try and avoid that this time.

  10. Dude, use Google’s spam filter for your messages. You can use for non gmail addresses / domains. I use it at the office and it works like a charm. No more spam issues. It has become a rarity for me to receive any sort of spam. Especially the common kind that we all know of. The only thing you’ve got to ask yourself, is if you mind having your possibly sensitive data in Googles hands.

  11. Jamie McCue says:

    Hey Scott,

What plugin did you use to feed your blog posts to Twitter?

  12. Scott says:

    jamie-
Twitter Tools by Alex King: http://ow.ly/1ViM

    daniel-
I do, you’d be surprised what makes it through. It’s not normal spam, like crazy 3x stuff or pill ads.. it’s mostly like newsletters and things like that.

  13. Crap, sucky situation man. I was actually going to mention in my previous comment that I do get some newsletter spam every now and again, and was going to ask if you did. I actually assumed, but didn’t mention, that a lot of spam you get probably can’t be avoided easily as it’s specifically marketed and targeted to you.

The downside of being well known I guess.

One idea, and I don’t know how super practical this is for you, but it has worked with higher profile individual I’ve contacted before. Is you give out, to a select group of people you trust, a prefix that they must add to the subject for all future emails to you. With this, you create a simple rule that throws these mails in a pure inbox folder. Might not prevent spam, but at least you can read a lot of legit emails in peace.

    Just an idea.

I was wondering when the twitter bird would bite ya. I still have misgivings about twitter but I’ve found it to be fun and addictive at least 🙂 Nice to see you there!

  15. Scott Reeves says:

Honestly, I would follow you if your feed *didn’t* contain your blog posts. I’m already getting those via my RSS reader, and I don’t want to wade through them just to see what else you have to say.

Please consider making a separate twitter feed for your blog posts i.e. ISO50Blog.

    Cheers!

  16. Dain says:

Great to see you on twitter Scott! Its great to see more amazing designers that have been around for a while getting on twitter. I’ve been a huge fan of your work for a long time dude.

P.S. Lemme know if I can help ya with the spam deal (I know people)

  17. Scott says:

    @scott reeves-
you make a good point. when I first enabled that I considered the fact that it might be redundant, but I suppose I thought it would make the twitter feed more interesting. But on second thought, I think you’re right, twitter isn’t there just to mirror the blog. I’ve disabled the feature so you should see a much cleaner twitter feed from here on out. thanks for the feedback!

  18. Clint says:

That twitter pic you made for this post is absolutely fantastic.

  19. Sandro says:

hey cool avatar on twitter. is there bigger size?

  20. Kevin says:

    sweet! welcome to twitter!

  21. magda o! says:

    Wow… people are so pushy…

    welcome to the twittersphere!

  22. Staticka says:

In short, Twitter is one of the greatest marketing tools to emerge. =)
