This So-Me directed video for Justice’s DVNO features a somewhat similar style to the Oscilliscopy Catalog from a couple days ago. Justin posted this in the comments and also included a link to a high res MOV version here.
The video is basically a remix of a bunch of old logos, some interesting stuff. I personally think the whole thing is a bit clean, would have been nicer if they did it with authentic techniques or just put a little more effort into grunging it up a bit. But perhaps they were going for this style, or perhaps they didn’t have the 2 years it would surely take to make this with mechanical video effects. At any rate, a fun clip, and below it is an interesting French spot featuring more of the same oscilloscope-styled graphics.
That song is great. I really like it 🙂 not as much as their remix of klaxons “As above, so below” thou
I agree that more texture would be nice, but the editing was really well done I find. Nice stuff!!!
I’m not too crazy about the music though!!
hmm i think i know who’s gonna win the “best music video” award again this year…
and i kinda liked the clean stuff, it feels smooth and fresh, not old and hip.
a bit overkill in my opinion, but greatly achieved a retro look and feel. i agree it the attention to detail could have been greater, like scott says, but for someone who grew up in the 80’s watching tv, this brings back alot of memories.
awesome, really digging the clean retro styles.
Machine molle did some great work.
Hmmm i think Machine Molle & SoMe got the exact style they were hoping to achieve..
Hey Scott, always meant to comment on your fantastic blog, but never had anything to comment about. Your work is quite inspired.
Have you seen Justice’s “Dance” video?

It also goes over remakes of 80’s graphics, this time T-shirt designs, and we get to see them on the pair’s own T shirts as they are WALKING pretty visually appealing trick there.
I think DVNO sort of goes over a similar concept, and I agree it might be somewhat overkill, specially compared to Dance. DVNO has grown on me during the past few weeks since I found it though.

This guy’s also really good, haven’t seen any vids, but his myspace is actually interesting graphic wise, love all his retro based image.
Ahahahah,I’m translate the music.Sorry I read today!!!!!
omg this is awesssome. my childhood tv retro 80 blast from the past…
i disagree about the grunging stuff. a retro should not be an exact copy of the original, it should bring some new spirit into the creation.
Thanks for the link to the high quality version!
