My brother Kirk is a sophomore at San Francisco State University. He’s planning to study design but has been experimenting with photography a lot over the past couple years. He showed me some of his recent stuff recently and it was really impressive so I thought I’d share. All of these shots were all taken with a Lomo LCA and cross-processed, bringing out all those nice colors. My favorite is the top one, it’s like a book about growing up in Sacramento boiled down into a single image. You can see more of his work at his Flickr page.
Kirk Hansen: Photography

I have been feeling really nostalgic lately… just about times gone by. And wow, these images just capture my understanding of nostalgia in such an amazing way. Well done to Kirk!
You brother has some mean talent. Love this selection, especially.
There’s something so movie-like, American dream-ish about that first photo if that makes any sense.
hey scott,
if your brother ends up taking any design classes at SFSU tell him to take classes from Steve Jones, Sandra Kelch or Ed Ortega….oh, and take some printmaking classes by mrs. merde.
cheers,
orville
good stuff.
First: Pretty amazed at the photos. I love the aesthetic of Lomo + X-pro (even though I prefer my Olympus XA2 to the LC-A). I’m trying to figure out how he got such depth of field with an LC-A in that third picture (the one of a guy skimboarding and a guy with a pipe). Nice 🙂
Second: You grew up in Sac? Get right the fuck outta town! Me too! Although I suspect I’m a bit older than you (I’m older than everybody on the internet). And technically I didn’t grow up there so much as was born there and stayed until I was 16. Grew up in Rosemont. Went to Hiram Johnson. Spent a lot of Summer days on the American river trying to kill myself on rope swings, swimming in rapids, and skimboarding rock-strewn shallows.
Beautiful shoot
Way to go Kirk! Great shots! Must be nice learning from the master (your bro). Keep it up!
I’m diggin em…the colors are awesome
I’m loving the Hansen collaboration.
Beautiful stuff, I too really dig the colors!
Killer job man. I was thinking about getting a lomo, but im pretty satisfied with my Canon. If i were to get a lomo, any recomendations on the model?
I’m only sixteen, but im pretty goos with a film camera, which is all ive used. I just dig the outcome of the photos.
Sadly, i have to post my pistures on my myspace, but i would totally love your opinion.
