I think this Kisses song is in my top 5 songs of the year, I haven’t stopped listening to it, I keep wanting to learn the lyrics and sing along softly, looking forward to this record, 1:20 and on pssssssssssssssshhhhh unreal. I do wonder though why I love it so much? is it because it sounds like something familiar? help me out here.
When I press play I picture goths dancing in their bedrooms and completely not being goth anymore, it brings a smile to my face, nice one Minks.
The production quality these days of songs seems to not matter much to many but sifting thru some of this muffled pieces of work sometimes a gem comes up and its worth the ear wear. How to Dress Well has that dreamy appeal that might sound amateur to many fans of even something far fetched like Panda Bear meets Janelle Monae but still becomes a wonderful song.

Beautiful. Perfect for a wintery afternoon. Thank you.
I would delete that top comment as spam, but it looks amazing.

The image looks familiar, where did you find it?
Agreed, What has the one man band Tom Vek been doing the last 5 years?
Love the site, great music as always!
Can only agree about Mr. Vek… he’s just popped off the radar, somehow I doubt we’ll be seeing him again, at least in the same guise anyway!
The pic looks like some simulation of either a Mars or Titan (Saturns Moon) glider – might help you narrow down the search! Serious work is going into both projects. Looking again, I’d say Titan because of the stubby wings and what looks like river beds… of course, could be just some random bedroom-generated sci-fi computer doodle!
Keep up the good work!
J

That is what the top comment says in chinese, mmmm. Someone has plans in the pipeline, me thinks. evil LOL, facepalm. Love the site, always have, always will. You had me at http://blog.iso….
Kisses has definite Cure vibe. Like from the disintegration album, which, I think was the best one. I also agree almost completely with commentor # 1.

I know exactly what you mean about the Kisses track. My theory is this: Jakub did you grow up watching John Hughes movies? There was always the perfect mood tracks from New Order, Modern English, echo & the b (which then led to a real appreciation for everything that is moody and 80s)…. Now your brain is like amalgamating the new like Mary Onettes and The Horrors into that same musical landscape that exists in you. It’s not that it sounds familiar so much as it *feels* familiar (and so effin good)…cause that track feels pretty effin good.
Tom Vek is amazing, I wish that he would come back! I listened to that track here, bought it on itunes, synced to mon iPod. From there it was straight to the car on repeat for about half an hour. “I Ain’t Sayin My Goodbyes” made my day! Skip into 3:06 in this video for some more Vek amazingness! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHDhHO7J-Oo
at 3:30 of the vek song, start up the school of seven bells track two posts below. impeccable transition
The Kisses track is everything that was great about early 80s New Wave. From the chunky midi drums to the synth melodies in the hook. Gives me flashbacks to when I was eight and listened to my older brother’s records. I listened to that Tom Vek song incessantly in the Fall of 2006. I love it. It would definitely be in my great tracks of the 2000s compilation. Speaking of which, I would love to see you put a list like that together. Ten songs from each year of the 2000s. It was a greatly underrated decade for music in my opinion. You really had to work to find good stuff because the commercial music industry couldn’t figure out what to do with itself. My list could have “In Your Arms” by Mylo, and “PDA” by Interpol and 98 more amazing tracks.
“In My Arms” by Mylo. *sorry*
A friend of mine sent me that How To Dress Well track. Listened to it on repeat for most of a work day. Amazing tune. The rest of your playlist is lovely too.
The Kisses track really reminds me of The Platform On The Ocean by Arthur Russell, particularly the drums – both great tunes.
@Sam
Woah good idea! 10 Tracks from 10 years. I definitely adding that to my end of the year to-do list.
Agreed on the New Order etc. likeness. As the lyrics kicked in I thought of Joy Division.

I don’t think it sounds amateur at all; I have always felt that music has a sonic aesthetic, much as visual work has its own motif. I have found the quasi-lofi feel to be specifically *difficult* to achieve, at least on purpose, and I think that it seems to mirror your own visual work, Scott.
