Little Joy+Rene B+Yagya+Thom Yorke

Little Joy
There’s a little something for everyone here today. Rough Trade Records picked up a lovely group from Los Angeles called Little Joy which I heard about from a girl that I met while selling merch at the M83/School Of Seven Bells show.
As for some deep house this Rene Breitbarth track is tip! let it simmer for a bit and golden up, by far my favorite track to play out right now.
If you have been diggin’ the latest Gas box set or The Sight Below then Yagya is a definite good addition to your collection, it keeps you on course and will take you into winter all warm and cozy.
I guess Thom Yorke remixed himself and it didn’t come out that bad, i’ve been playing on repeat while I work and it made me revisit The Eraser LP which was good because so many people trashed that LP and I thought if it was anyone but Thom Yorke making that LP it would put that person on top of the indie world.

ona sidenote.. holy crap. i saw the nyc show of M83/SVIIB and boy was I surprised how insanely good M83 was. SVIIB was great too, but M83 put on one of the best shows Ive seen in a long time. They had this rock n roll energy amidst all the synths.. and drummer gets a huge shout of for killin it..

Great choice throwin some deep house up there, deep house doesn’t get enough love on this blog!

Agreed on the eraser, it’s just because it’s Thom. I think it’s amazing how he did all of that on a laptop, the original Harrowdown hill is a harrowing song, and I wish he would have done more with that sequence he ends the title track on…unless I missed something.

I actually thought that The Eraser was way better than In Rainbows, but this remix not really does it for me.

    Little Joy sound nice!

  4. Little Joy also features Rodrigo Amarante, a great brazilian composer! His previous band, “Los Hermanos” made quite success in Brazil and had nothing (or almost nothing) similar to Little Joy.

I second Adam’s comments. I caught the recent M83 show in DC and it was phenomenal–definitely one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time and they intermingled live instrumentation and sequenced electronic parts perfectly.

Good post Jakub. You reminded me that I really need to dig out Yagya’s The Rhythm of Snow and give it another listen after all these years. People really slept on that album.

Great post Jakub; I didn’t really like ambient until you started recommending great artists like these

Little Joy is so brilliant, wow. Binki is beautiful.

I too think “The Eraser” is a fantastic LP and am amazed that it got mediocre reviews. My only thought is that people didn’t give it multiple listens to full understand and appreciate the album. The original version of “Harrowdown Hill” is definitely one of my favorites off the LP. The “Spitting Feathers” EP that compliments “The Eraser” has another version of “Harrowdown Hill” which is also fantastic: http://www.amazon.com/Spitting-Feathers-B-Sides-Video-EP/dp/B000JJS2X4

Rodrigo Amarante me surpreende. É um dos melhores compositores brasileiros da atualidade. Bom gosto!
