Liveries: Renault Sport

Just a few photos of the very awesome Renault Sport livery used prominently from the late 70’s throughout the mid 80’s. Renault Sport works teams have alternated between a few color schemes over the past 40 years, but the classic black/yellow with isometric accents towards the aft has always been my favorite. While Renault officially exited F1 with the debut of Team Lotus, it was nice seeing the vintage livery on the grid for a few seasons. With so many heinous paint jobs these days, it was a bummer to see it go. Be sure to check out the YouTube clip for some very casual conversations in French at 200+ mph. More after the jump.

They are describing a trip around the circuit, ie what gear is used through specific turns, the speeds reached on the Mulsanne straight (this was before they added the 2 chicanes to reduce speeds in excess of 400kmh), the bumpy nature of the circuit, what it’s like to drive during the night, etc. For an english equivelent, i’d check out this video where Allan McNish gives a pretty animated walk through.

When on tour in France about 4 years ago, we were driving from Paris to Nantes and luckily our drive took us directly through the area. We stopped for lunch, and while everyone else ate I took the Volkswagen, found the circuit, and drove the sections of the course that are held on public roads. It was truly an amazing experience, I got a little misty tbh…

Renault also produce models in FRB [French Racing Blue colour <-sorry english spelling]

IMHO – The colour is never really able to be captured in photography with the pigment intensity so dense.

There is a book about the colour and it's heritage here:

I am lucky enough to have in possession the one and only FRB 197 2008 Clio in .au
The colour is just breathtaking but wait till you have had the chance to drive a Renault Sports model'ed car. You can't describe the quality of the engine nor the handling capabilities of the chassis.

Colour, Design & Performance = Renault

“While Renault officially exited F1 with the debut of Team Lotus”

That’s ironic because the current Lotus team cars use Renault engines.
