Easily the coolest advertisement for a fragrance I have ever seen. Tom and Tim Muller put this together as part of the campaign for Diesel’s new fragrance Only the Brave. There are many other videos up on the site — nothing comes close to this. (Though Si Scott’s could be cool in a few weeks.) This video, in addition to being flat out gorgeous, really captures the essence of the phrase only the brave. The Apollo 15 Mission connection is a perfect match:
As I stand out here in the wonders of the unknown at Hadley, I sort of realize there is a fundamental truth to our nature. Man must explore.
UPDATE: Tom Muller has written a post detailing this project on his blog. Great to hear a bit more about this fascinating project.
This is absolutely amazing. I love the attention to detail: the static glitches that correspond with the beaps and static of the airwaves. The type is lovely too! Great find.
I saw this earlier on Tim Muller’s site—love that pseudo-terminal/HUD overlay. Brings good memories of Metal Gear Solid, Terminator… all that good stuff.
soo awesome. like you guys have already said, that HUD overlay is awesome, the type, and the colors!…all just perfect. and all for a cologne.
Wow this is really interesting…I would have guessed it was going to be a U.S. Army tv spot…but why does this tingle my senses, why are random HUD elements and small bits of characters and data so pleasing to the eye?
Nice, this is pretty interesting. Both the Muller’s always do some great work.
Thanks for the kind comments guys, really appreciated!
The video is definitely interesting.. Though, to somehow link phrases that have great depth (“Man’s nature.. Man must explore”) to a fragrance is quite a stretch. The “only the brave” phrase as well.
I have to disagree with the comment above about the Diesel slogans being “quite a stretch”. Anyone familiar with the Diesel brand knows that the term “stretch” is regularly stretched to it’s limits and beyond by the brand – making the conceptual extension a unique aspect of Diesel. “Only the Brave” refers to the long-standing American Indian logo D has used for many years. Also, the addition of “Man must explore” by Tom & Tim, via the Apollo 15 mission, is absolutely consistent with The Diesel brand (The bottle is in the shape of a fist for crying out loud) For proof search for Diesels old micro-site featuring the return of sister yes sunglasses. You rock Mullers!
Oh.. The bottle is shaped like a fist?
Truly, I apologize, I retract my prior post.
thanks for finding this. Muller is very talented.
If anyone’s interested, Muller recently updated his blog detailing the process of the video’s conception:
