This might be a departure from what I post most days but I can’t pretend that this isn’t some of the strongest song writing out of my generation and maybe even the generation before me. Mark Kozelek is a pure talent when it comes to setting a tone and feeling that most can’t control when they hear his songs. Deadly as this playlist might seem for some since a beautiful sunny weekend is in store for the east coast I just think it needed to be done.
I didn’t include my 2 favorite Mark Kozelek songs since i’ve already posted them which are Mistress and Duk Koo Kim, if you need more then the wait isn’t too long, Sun Kil Moon’s next LP Admiral Fell Promises is slated for 7/13.

Despite the borderline mysoginy of the earlier stuff, I love the atmosphere each song creates particularly Dragonflies and Mistress. Nice post.
Thanks for posting these. I’ve been a fan since 1993 when I first bought RHCP self-titled 1. His music defined my youth. I still think he is one of the greatest song writers ever….
Saw Sun Kil Moon in Portland a while back. It was great. They did alternate stretched out versions of all the songs. Mark Kozelek told some girls in the front row to stop talking so loud.

excellent post, couldn’t agree with you more. I personally count my favorite musicians as Boards of Canada and Red House Painters. While I haven’t enjoyed his recent stuff as much, the preview of his new LP is great and make me hopeful for the new release.
I miss my favorite RHP’s song, Have you fogotten, but good playlist anyway.
Ten years ago i used to listen to them almost once-twice a day.
And the new song sounds great indeed.

Great list. Anything off “Ghosts of the Great Highway” will work for me. Pancho Villa and Carry Me Ohio are two of my favs.
Great selection. My love affair with 4AD got me hooked on RHP with Down Colorful Hill – still as strong today as it was 18 years (!) ago. There aren’t many songs that give me goosebumps, but the last 90 seconds of Things Mean a Lot get me every time. Good memories!

i saw RHP with His Name is Alive on the Songs for a Blue Guitar tour. i was a casual fan up until that show. i will never forget Mark stepping away from the mic in the middle of one of the songs (i think “have you forgotten”) and belting out the song louder than the PA. its gave me chills.
