1 for 3 on Porsche designed pieces owned

P_YachtP_EXHD
So I’m looking at my external hard drive this morning and i’m thinking man! i’m glad I don’t own one of the ones that look like Dell designed it or one that is all clunky looking or looks like its Mountain Dew sponsored and has a weird glowing green light (my apologizes if yours has a green light). Also, I wonder if I should be looking into a new external hard drive? i’ve heard mix reviews on these Porsche LaCie drives and I have 2 and i’m looking to get one main one that’s really reliable, any suggestions? Now back to daydreaming about the Porsche Tapiro, also did anyone pick one of these up yet or did we agree that is was too expensive?

Snow Patrol+Low Motion+Dead Texan

Snow Patrol
Snow Patrol are talented musicians but have always been in between the cracks of being not indie enough for the Scandinavian’s and too poppy for the indie sound in the States. I’m hoping with this new record they have nailed down the sound that can take them where they want to be. This track off their new album is really enjoyable, reminds me of an upbeat Jose Gonzalez song with catchy stomps and handclaps. That cover is pretty spot on if you don’t count the overused font, I saw it on the street and had to share it with you guys because what i love about is the craft, I’d like to see more designers create something and photograph it once in a while when it comes down to simpler ideas like this.
I saw Low Motion Disco earlier this year DJ in some basement in Manhattan with a few DFA DJ’s, he was really good and dropped some deep cuts but he was djing with a Pacemaker which is this gross iPhone/PSP looking DJ gadget that makes the DJ look even more of a dope which I hate saying but it’s true and us dj’s don’t need anymore things like these especially when you see them thumbin’ thru mp3’s and dancing with it in hand.
The Dead Texan is half of Stars of the Lid on the adored Kranky label, i’ve been saving this song to put on a mix but had to leak and share a favorite of mine with all you since I think it’s a great Monday song.
The Outrunners are pretty much 80’s synth driving music and if you listen to a lot of the posts I put up here you’ll notice i’m a fan of that sound. It’s pretty repetitive which isn’t a bad thing and makes you want to get ready for the big game against the undefeated champions while your the underdog from a small town but has the heart of a true champion.

Tycho/ISO50 Live Tonight In Clearwater

tycho-clearwater-nov8-altsm2.jpgAfter an unplanned overnight stay in Atlanta, I’ve finally made it to Tampa for the Connext show tonight. Just a reminder, if you’re planning on coming out the show is from 5:00-10:30PM at Coachman Park. I’ll go on around 9PM, all the details are here. See you out there.

Isolee+Paape+Jimpster+LCD

IsoleeTonight is Halloween and I tried my best to put together a Halloween post but it was almost impossible without doing something too generic so at the bottom there’s something special for the holiday, probably not the best to play at work. To be honest I only watched it with the sound off and skimmed thru it since it’s probably the scariest video ever. As for the music the Isolee, Paape and LCD Soundsystem tracks are a few favorites of mine to DJ when its a diverse crowd, so if you’re DJing tonight or tomorrow(Scott!) here are some crowd pleasers.

I’ve never been down there before so I’m pretty excited; unfortunately I’ll only be in town for the weekend. When I think of Florida I think of Crocket, Tubbs, and the Epcot Center. Although I won’t be going to Orlando on this trip, I thought now would be as good a time as any to post some shots from the original Epcot Pre-Opening Guide. I’m loving the logo, and bonus points if you can name the typeface they’re using.

Lance Wyman For Obama

wyman-obama-large.jpgThe latest limited edition “Artist’s For Obama” poster is by none other than Lance Wyman. Wyman, as you may recall, is the branding genius behind the 1968 Mexico Olympic logo as well as countless other brilliant marks. It’s really great to see someone still practicing successful design after all these years and obviously having fun doing it. I always wonder if design is one of the few art forms in which one can remain relevant throughout most of their lifetime; it seems that many other artistic pursuits (music, painting, etc.) are typically characterized by brief periods of genius followed by a sharp decline in output whereas the measured application of a practical, systematic approach to design can be extended into the decades. Maybe it’s that we tend to stick to coffee as opposed to heroin.

And please, save the politicking for some other blog’s comments. I am simply pointing out the fact that Lance Wyman has created new work, no one’s trying to start a huge discussion about who’s voting for whom. If, on the other hand, anyone has anything to say about the effectiveness of the design in question, please don’t hesitate to speak up.
