I haven’t done continuous mixes in awhile but I just finished 3 completely different ones that i’ll be sharing in the next 2 months, here’s the first one I did for Incase, its strictly on the melodic side house and techno, would love your thoughts.

Colossal Secret compiles a selection of tracks that remind me of the days I DJed an on going weekly with Matthew Dear (Ghostly International) and Ryan Elliott (Spectral Sound) in Ann Arbor, MI in the early 2000s.

Like most mixes of mine they vary in the specific genre, some have been more representative of the slow disco I usually play out or the some are more low level ambience that are similar to my production but this one is special, its been in my system and it focuses on the dance floor and what I think is a passionately filled collection for people that love the deeper melodic end of House and Techno.

Paintings such as Samantha Keely Smith’s make me want to throw my camera away and pick up a paint brush again. I miss the quiet, tranquil nights or afternoons where it felt like it was just me and my canvas and the world around me dissolved entirely. I love inspiration like Samantha’s paintings.

According to her website, she uses oil on canvas along with shellac, varnish and enamel. I’d imagine, given the size of these paintings, that they command every ounce of your attention. They are simply powerful. Her new work is jaw dropping and I can’t imagine what they look like and how they would make me feel viewing them in person. If any one feels like buying me the first one, I would forever be your friend.

I could sit here and explain how I feel about Samantha’s work but I would rather let her paintings speak to you. Take a look at her website to see the rest of her work and her artist statement. I would be first in line to purchase a print if she offered them.

The Sky Survey, 5,000 Megapixel image of space. There really isn’t too much I can write about this, other than you should probably be prepared to set your status to “Away” for a couple hours. Before doing that, check out the story behind it on the site as well as the iPad app. I’d imagine, if you can hook your new Retina Laptop up to a 1080p projector and shoot that on a wall, it’s going to look pretty impressive.

A year and many sleepless nights later I had amassed over 37,000 exposures. Even then, the work of unifying all the photographs took three months to complete and many hundreds of CPU hours. The data crunching consumed four terabytes of hard drive space and nearly equal amounts of patience but the end result seemed worth the wait.

C Andrew Rohrmann or scntfc is a Seattle based multi-disciplinary audio + visual artist. He has been working in music, design, and media production for the past fifteen years. Rohrmann has completed many successful commissions including feature film scores, large scale audio installations, and art direction for commercial clients. The above is his series Undone:

Undone is an experiment in ambient cinema, comprised of an ever expanding series of short films revolving around the depiction of artificially constructed macroscopic environments. The intent is to evoke a sense of space that is ambiguous in terms of scale: simultaneously microscopically small and astronomically large.

The Thank You bag is never really looked by anyone that doesn’t do design, it usually just gets thrown away but for me there has always been this appreciate for it. Like most things that are simple and that get tied into DDR/Cold War design, I somehow kind of enjoy the layouts of these.

Li Hui or Hui+ as I’ve also seen referred to as, is a self-taught Chinese photographer who creates moody, often double-exposed, dreamscapes using a couple film cameras: Nikon FM2 & a light-leaked Canon AT-1. What apparently started off as a hobby to fend off loneliness, has turned in to a career.

Headed west! Rolled out of Bozeman, MT today — halfway to Seattle for the Ghostly Showcase at Decibel Fest this Saturday (9/29/12) with Matthew Dear and Lusine at Showbox. There’s always that one song every year that whispers summer is over, time to preparing for hibernation. Andy Stott delivered that song this week, he’s in that excellent position of knowing what to play for a crowd but also in the studio has complete control of beautiful ambience. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The Canadians have been owning independent music in 2012, mainly Montreal, the latest collab comes from CFCF and Austra, with their cover of David Bowie, this is a good example of what I think the Bat For Lashes album is missing, the theatrics are there but the sound plays a bit better with a bit more substance.

If anyone missed this thoughtful Four Tet remix od The Xx I wanted to make sure you had a chance with it, he has been simplifying his production lately and its giving his sound new life.

Wareika is a go to for all my DJ sets, everything is brought in slowly like its feeling out if its going to work, the vox isn’t sterile nor diva-ish which lately have been drowning the House scene.
