A great practice idea for graphic designers is redesigning the US Dollar, compared to Canada and many European countries I feel we just got screwed a bit, while the detailing in the US dollar is classy I feel like the overall collection from coin to paper is not the best it can be, I don’t think any of the designs above are the answer either. I was thinking would anyone be down to submit redesigns to ISO50 and we can have a contest with giveaways? Let me know below if its a good idea and i’ll get together a submission post.
The US Dollar needs a redesign?

ISO50: Soundcloud Who To Follow Guide: #4
I see even bigger things happening for Soundcloud in the future, mainly the community within it coming closer so I decide to start a guide of people to follow if you like what’s on ISO50. Below I started off with frequent users that make your feed more enjoyable with quality posts.
This week we start with a label that I highly respect Kranky, today they shared a new single from the upcoming Loscil LP and if you keep scrolling down you’ll find that this feed is a very generous one. Next is Incase who are share with you a compilation they posted last week. You can find a lot of exclusive live versions on this one, one of the more underrated accounts on Soundcloud I think. One of my favorite DJs Tornado Wallace is starting to use his account more and more, he just his Recloose remix which i’m on the hunt for, hope you all enjoy.
RECORD LABEL: KRANKY

Impossible Project Instant Lab
The Impossible Project launched the Impossible Instant Lab via Kickstarter, which is designed to transform any digital image via your iPhone into an instant photo that is exposed using only the light from the display, then processed and developed by chemicals. A photo that no longer needs an electronic device to be seen.
What are everyone’s thoughts on this? Is a photo just a photo, or…?

Weekend Inspiration: Tomas Saraceno
Argentinian artist Tomas Saraceno goes beyond the traditional conceptions of place, time, gravity and our familiar notions of architecture. Saraceno is an artist and architect whos visions for cities floating in the air have led him to create a series of experimental structures such as balloons or inflatable modular platforms that can be inhabited and exploit natural energies. Any of his objects is an invitation to think about alternative knowledge, about emotions and the interaction with others. They invite you to participate, like Poetic Cosmos Of The Breath (pictured above), an experimental solar dome, which was part of The Arts Catalyst’s 2nd International Artists Airshow.
At dawn, crowds formed around a giant and colorful, circular foil, pinned to the ground at the edges with sand bags. Throughout the morning, the artist and his team gradually filled the foil with air and visitors could walk through this stunning colored wonderland.

Ghostly International x Incase Comp
To celebrate the Ghostly International: Of Art and Artifice event Incase shared this amazing compilation of songs which includes a Kolombo remix of Tycho, Tensnake rework of Osborne, Fort Romeau edit of Beacon and many more.
Incase is proud to support Ghostly International: Of Art and Artifice, a multi-day event presented by the Art Directors Club CRE8 Series that promotes art connected through a spirit of inventiveness and anti-genre thinking. In the years since its birth in 1999, Ghostly has grown from a boutique label known for its experimental-pop and -techno acumen to an internationally recognized platform for the work of the world’s best visual artists, designers, technologists, and musicians.
As a multi-platform cultural curator, Ghostly International is a tightly knit aesthetic universe fulfilling the roles of art gallery, design house, clothing designer, technology innovator, music-publishing company and record label, all in one. From September 13-16, The Art Directors Club will house a comprehensive exhibition that gives a peek into what’s next after 13 years of creativity from Ghostly International, highlighting an essential selection of work from the Ghostly family in a never-before-seen collection. In addition to the exhibition, Of Art and Artifice will also encompass a series of events that include an Opening Gala with live performances by Com Truise, Lusine and NYC’s own Michna, as well as two days of talks with Ghostly artists hosted by Incase.
Side By Side iPhone 5 vs iPhone 4S video
I think this video is legit, we’ve been holding off on posting anything, would love your thoughts on what you guys think. Here’s what i’m loving:
– headphone jack at the bottom
– new connection port
– looks like we have less glass on the back
– larger screen, slimmer body
which brings up questions…
– will the headphone jack be in the way?
– what do we do with the 5 or more $20 iPhone cords we have?
– will it feel less like a precious possession? 😉
– will this make it less durable than it already is?

Typography Design and Libre Fonts
I just recently finished a five day intensive Typography course called Crafting Type. My head is still spinning a little from being so immersed into the realm of type design and fonts. I was surprised at after learning a few techniques for sketching and drawing how quick it was to get some decent ideas down on paper. I highly recommend the course if you ever get the chance to take it.
The course was led by Dave Crossland with Eben Sorkin and Octavio Pardo. Dave is a firm believer in “Libre Software” (free software) and is now creating Libre fonts. He is currently working as ‘Font Consultant’ to the Google Web Fonts project and has contributed many fonts to it. He also is a large contributor to FontForge and set each of us up with his own customized version to design our fonts.
The interesting part (that I didn’t realize) about Libre fonts is you are free to edit them and improve or make variations of them, providing you contribute them back into the Libre community. This is completely opposite of the current commercial type model (philosophically and financially). It was an eyeopener for me into the possibilities of this movement.
As web designer having fonts that I can use freely in my designs (on the web) is huge. Thinking back even a couple years, it was almost an impossibility due to Licensing. Some might argue that with the free fonts there is less “quality control” and a model more like Typekit is a better solution (both for users and font designers). Either way with a player as big as google building its free font library its exciting for me to see the flood gates on type and type creation opening up, even just a little bit.
