It’s always great to learn about new artists and Paul Tebbott is no exception. Alex sent me Paul’s site today and I was really moved by his color choices and restrained use of texture and distressing. Paul seems to be just getting started — as evidenced by his relatively small body of work — which is all the more reason to believe we’ll be seeing lots of great things from him in the future. If that’s not enough for you, Paul also has a music project that Boards of Canada fans will surely find enjoyable.

music and art is great! I see that you’re an influence to his music. Good work! I can’t wait until I stop being lazy and continue making music so i can accredit you for being an influence as well. 🙂

Are you sure “Paul Tebbott” isn’t one of Scott Hansen’s alias’ ? 🙂

I just discovered Paul’s work as well. Great stuff! I’ve actually had that 3rd image down as my background for the past week and have found it very pleasing.

  4. Paul Tebbott is you man, hehe 🙂

…right…something funky is going on here…
the similarities are uncanny, right down to textures and shadows etc.
has someone been visiting this site a little too often?

    very nice tho…

That’s beyond amazing. Both his art and music.
He credits you as well on his Myspace, cause the influence can certainly be found in his work.

  11. I was wondering what you might think when you saw Paul’s work, I came across his stuff on Flickr a couple months back…it’s very well-executed, I’d like to see him take things a step further and look forward to seeing his portfolio grow.

Woah, his design work looks amazingly like yours. And he has a music project that sounds heavily influenced by BoC, just like yours.
It all looks and sounds cool though!

I saw these on Buamai yesterday and was pretty blown away. I like the simplicity in the designs. The first print reminds me of the ‘Eagle In Your Mind’ reference that Boards of Canada always sneaks in.

Great job Paul. I look forward to seeing your work progress.

  14. Scott says:

Ha, no…this is not my work, I just became aware of it yesterday actually. Yeah, I think he is working along some similar lines as me, but he has his own voice and the work is just so good…

  15. Chad says:

I remember seeing his stuff a couple of weeks ago and instantly being stunned. You can’t help but love this guy’s work.

    Scott,

I’m surprised you’d advertise another artist’s work that basically pinches your style. Maybe I’m being too critical, but as a reader of your blog I’d prefer to learn more about artists that are exciting and take chances in their design work as well as music.

  17. Scott says:

    David-
I guess I don’t see it that way. If you look past some of the initial similarities, I think he has something else going on. I would actually say his style has more in common with someone like Jason Munn than me. At any rate, when I post images like this it isn’t about “advertising” anyone, it’s about cataloging the things that I enjoy looking at and I enjoy looking at each of the above examples. Besides, I am not an art critic or a art intellectual, I just know when I see something I like.

  18. yeah he might be a poor man’s version of you. Maybe he can show off on layer tennis, and we’ll see how good he is on his feet.
