Poladroid You Pictures

I would normally file something like this under gimmick and move on but I can’t help but appreciate the vignetting and color shift that the app lends to your digital photos, for an automatic filter it’s actually not that bad. Unfortunately it looks like you have to put up with the pretty fake looking border and drop shadow to get at that color shifting goodness, but it’s free so I can’t really complain. Check it out it at Poladroid’s site. All photos from Poladroid Flickr Group.

  1. Just downloaded it to try it out. I love the way the app just floats on the desktop with that drop shadow. I might use this if I need a “quick Polaroid graphic” for some presentation or something…

This is going to make things a million times easier for a little idea I had involving polaroids…thanks for this Scott!

Still nothing like the real thing.

    Macs only 🙁

Those pictures are startlingly beautiful! I’m sure the photographs were striking to begin with, but I must say, the above examples have whetted my appetite for this app…

For awhile now i’ve been wanting to go get an old polaroid camera and some film but maybe now I don’t have to.

good for the environment to use apps like this and doing it in a digital way.
wonder if someone soon will do a similar app to simulate lomo?!

This is so cool! I’m definitely going to try this out. Great site, and great post. 🙂 I’ll be coming back for sure.

wish I could be as cool a mac owner

I believe Polaroid decided to discontinue the production of their instant film products as of 2008. This app may be used quite a bit once its all gone.

Wow, very cool app. Results are hit or miss, but overall not to bad considering the cost.

  14. Andrew J. says:

    Yup no more polaroids 🙁
this app is pretty cool tho…the color shift is pretty good but the edges seem kinda fake for the pictures i did

eh. I’m gonna be the cynic and call this a lame gimmick. I’ve seen plenty of really nice polaroid pics, but this instant faux nostalgia stuff is kinda dumb in my opinion. If you want to use color filters, go for it, (I’m all for)– but why do you need to make your photos look like polaroids if their not?

“LENINIZM, ZWYCIESKI SZTANDAR NASZEJ EPOKI”…(The winning flag of our times) heh a nice “polish” detail on Your website…although Lenin is rather a hated than loved person in our country, still its nice to see own language on ISO50 site 😉 GREETINGS FROM ALL FANS FROM POLAND!!! (especially from photographers – me and Aga)

heh the most nice thing (when nice pictures to modify are unavalable) it’s the application behaviour. It’s mimicking so well the actual polaroid instamatic… That added a sort of analogic/nostalgic layer to the thing. I has almost afraid my picture wouldn’t come out right. My own experience with Polaroids are rather disappointing, yet they’re linked to childhood, which is good…
    I really like it!

Scott, thanks for posting this. BTW, you get different results each time you process your image.

probably too late to post here as no one will see this now. but, does anyone know how to filter a photo like this without using poladroid? i mean, obviously this effect can be accomplished right? it must just be a filter someone created? any ideas on getting these colors and saturation another way? thanks
