With all the recent talk about The Impossible Project I thought I’d post this beautifully shot ad for the Polaroid SX-70 camera.
“This ad from the 70’s describes the Polaroid SX-70, a Land camera with complex optics and advanced features that brought immediate-results photography via the Polaroid system.”
Anyone got an SX-70 they’re going to dust off now that film is available again?
there’s still this kind of polaroid camera
I think this was produced and directed by Ray and Charles Eames.
God-damn Polymaths!
everything but the polyester dude was made by ray and charles. the image of the man sleeping is from powers of ten. to answer your question, i stare at my old sx70 everyday, waiting for it to be carried around everywhere again…
The sx-70 is one of my primary cameras. I’ve been shooting modified 600 with it for a few years now and stocked up when I heard Polaroids official plans to stop production. I also received two packs of the impossible project’s, tz-artistic, which I’m looking forward to using and seeing the results.
I know a lot of people are concerned about the prices for the new film, so it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
I started looking for an SX-70 the day the project was announced, being a touch behind on owning sweet things, but the wonders of the internet quickly earned me a solid black Model II. I was hoping that I’d be able to afford the film the project put out reasonably, but this first batch is going for more than old-stock color.
I suppose if I’ve been waiting more than a year already I can wait out the price, but how am I going to christen the camera without a pack or two through it? I’m in the same boat as with my Nizo/Braun Super-8, where dealing with each cartridge of film costs the same as the camera.
Both will have to remain Eye-Candy before they can produce it.
the power of ten!
Sean Patrick-
thanks, good catch. had those images set aside in a folder and somehow that got in there.
The SX/70 was from an amazing time when we built well designed things that would last. Most of the cameras I own from that period are built like tanks.
Oh wow! My SX-70 has just been sitting pretty atop my desk staring at me. Finally I can use it again! Happy day. Worth the price.
as luck would have it, i picked up a peachy SX70 and new-old-stock accessory kit at a thrift store in north carolina for under $15 this weekend… score.
Like S.Lemon, I stocked up on 600 film when I found out production was ending. I just use an ND filter over the pack and go…
Definitely looking forward to trying the new film. (:
I have one in an original leather case you can borrow… you know where to find me!
i just found one yesterday in perfect conditions just lying in the floor of an abandoned house. can you belive it? Polaroid 1000, so beatiful
