As far as Italian prog goes, PFM are the poster children. I’ve yet to find another group in the genre that makes it so smooth and buttery. The segways between movements (or lack there of, generally) is to die for. This album fails to leave my rotation.
There’s not much to say. The music speaks for itself. There’s quite a few movements, so give it a full listen.
If you’re looking for similar stuff, be sure to check out:
- Locanda Delle Fate’s “Forse le Lucciole Non Si Amano Più”
- Camel’s “Moon Madness” (England)
- Grobschnitt’s “Rockpommel’s Land” (Germany)
I enjoyed the tracks, they have a rock/classical feel to them that’s hard to describe.
pretty cool, major major Yes vibe going on. that first song is all Heart of the Sunrise. Crazy they’re both from 1972.
This is great! I am an independent singer songwriter and I learn a lot from reading blogs like this – thanks so much for sharing.
I’ve seen PFM live a lot of times in Italy 🙂
PFM was the only very international italian prog band of the time,
but other bands like BANCO DEL MUTUO SOCCORSO, LE ORME, OSANNA
were great too!

Sounds great! Reminds me of Jethro Tull. Camel is also awesome, indeed.
BTW, the drums sound really similar to King Crimson. Especially the sound, but also the groove. Listen to it around 2:10 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bVKH28LhRk
Wow the second half of APPENA UN PĂ’ is flooring
That first one is mindblowing good.
You should listen to “Elio e le storie tese”.
Songs like Plafone or Il congresso delle parti molli from Studentessi album are really worth the try.
