Propellerheads unveils Music Making App

Swedish software firm Propellerhead (the makers of Reason) put together not only a simple eye appealing music making app but one that has controls that will have you making music in just a few minutes.

The great part about this music app is the sounds aren’t wacky, thin or robotic, if you’re a Reason user like myself since v2.0 then this will make you smile from ear to ear especially at the $.99 price tag.

They have a thorough overview on their site and the solid video above for new fans. Definitely haven’t been this happy about a music app since Animoog.

“I think we as an industry haven’t been that great about inviting people in who don’t have deep dreams about becoming big stars or understanding everything about music production, it’s time for that: I think everyone should be invited to be part of this. Figure is a small step towards that.” – says chief executive Ernst Nathorst Böös.

Awesome app. The layout and functions are so smooth. Definitely worth it.

  2. Nick Hess says:

Looks really user-friendly, can’t wait to play with it. Is there a way to export your tracks or save the sound file?

  3. Tim says:

you only like it because it looks like it’s been dipped in instragram yellow sauce

  4. Tyler says:

I like it but … man it’s too easy to make decent sounding music these days.

  5. Dean says:

Hopefully they make a iPad version also.

  6. Patrick says:

Awesome app, very user friendly. I would recommend it, definitely worth $.99 My only complaint is that you can’t save your songs, but it is only version 1.0 so I’m sure they will implement that feature later on.

  7. Ken says:

    Best $1 I’ve spent in a while.

  8. Beejus says:

Great UI design, but can’t save/export your tracks????? Really? What’s the point?

  9. Kurt Lorenz says:

Greatest looking app ever, but totally useless in it’s current state.

  10. This is a really cool app. I’ve been seeing it pop up everywhere. I’ve never tried making music before and this is definitely an easy way to get introduced.

I saw that everyone disliked that you can’t record/save your tracks. I figured out a way to record if you have external audio recorder, like an H4N (which is what I had on hand) Just use an audio jack that has two male ends and there you go, you can record.

I’ve been using since it came out, awesome interface, unfortunately until they add a way to save/load different songs or export the 1 bar stems out of it as WAV files, its going to be stuck in music toy land instead of music tool land.

It would be a serious serious mobile music app if you could change the length and save/load.

I literally check the app store for an update every day.

Have fun with it while you’re taking a shit. I think if you’re complaining about exporting tracks you might be missing the point.

Looks like they took their design cues from Microsoft, it could seriously fit right in on my lumia 900. Nice.

  14. Neil says:

This is seriously going to eat a lot of my time… Really impressive stuff, design and UI is great.

    Thanks for posting!

so what, this is kind of like a teaser app to get non-producers interested in making music, and then migrating to real propellerhead software? it looks like it’s more novelty than anything.

    @SHADYGHOST

for sure! very Metro-y, maybe someone needs to petition propellerheads to make a windows phone 7 version….. although Starbucks hasn’t ported their app to it yet so… who knows

    @DEAN

you can’t put an iPhone app on an iPad? wtf

cool lookin app though. reminds me of nanoloop in-a-way….

@CURTIS ESTRIDGE made the best comment, look above.

  18. RA_OUL says:

Definitely addicting! Love it. Thanks for filling us in about it.

  19. Jonny says:

It’s good fun on car journeys. Gets people bopping in a hurry.

If you want to record something, just plug it into the line in of your audio interface and record from your computer. Easy as piss. Complaining you can’t record is like complaining that a Fisher Price karaoke machine doesn’t have a powered XLR input.

  20. Glenn says:

Its amazing. I really hope they will make an android version.

  21. Love this app! I just wish there were better tones than all those awful electro/trance leads…bleh, where is the rhodes, or some dub stabs?

  22. Rated it 4 stars on App Store. Why not 5? Well, I have serious issues with lagging on my iPhone4 when manually trying to make beats. Anyone else experiencing this? I tab right on the key, but then it either drops it too late or not at all. If they fix this, then it’s definitely a 5 star app. I almost got in a trance mode yesterday, when I was improvising a really dreamy track. LOVE!

  23. This app rules. Check out my funky groove, http://youtu.be/VkYGLvubQrM
