Ratatat Stock Footage Video

The video for Ratatat’s new single Drugs is absolutely horrible, which is exactly what they wanted. Carl Burgess scoured the depths of the Getty Images archives and pieced together this string of painful moments set to music. The recycled mediocrity vibe is strong and there is a fair amount of uglification going down via some video post. I have to imagine someone involved in this project is a big Tim & Eric fan, and perhaps watched one too many Aphex Twin videos.

That was a painful watch indeed, although I did get some good laughs out of it.

    oof.
reminds me of this timid tiger video,
where they used and imitated stock-photography and -videos.

So many poorly-fitted shirts, sooo much kaki, sooooo much bad hair – i love it! How did you manage to get all of my clients to volunteer for this?!

Ha! Incredible. At work we often run across the stock video on Getty and iStock — and we’re always like “who will actually use this stuff?” Well, now we know.

The ladies face at 1:16—is it just me or does that ladies face look permanently stuck on iChat’s pinch face video preset?

Wow, i never knew how excited I could get when Tim & Eric and Aphex Twin are mentioned in the same sentence. You just made my day

  24. David says:

I see whats going on, but can’t help to think the amount of effort put into this is merely a waste of talent and time. Didn’t really care to watch this.

With that being said, I’m sure there are a lot that think the same thing about the programming on Adult Swim. (of which I am a fan of)

I dig the originality and I don’t find it painful at all. If you think that was messed, check out the vid for MIA’s “born free”. Be warned, it is very disturbing and was taken down from youtube. But one of my favourite clips of all time.

  27. staygold says:

I am sorry, but the creativity and originality of this clip is just close to zero in my eyes. I do agree there is potential in the use of stock footage for a video work, but if the concept and the realization stays as shallow as the source – it’s wasted. They added cynicism, that’s all. Poor Eric, poor Aphex to be thrown in one pot with this…

  28. Kevin A. says:

uhh… am I the only one that noticed that weird-ass head?

  29. Peter Hoang says:

Looks like most of the clips came from this Getty Images collection: http://www.gettyimages.ca/Search/Search.aspx?assettype=film&artist=Post+Holes+RF
