I talked about the HP Envy a while back as a potential alternative to the Macbook and now it’s finally out. I’ve always been a fan of HP laptops, they’re fast and cheap and I’ve had three which have all served me well. But they were all ugly as hell and covered with useless add-ons and blue LEDs; not exactly objects of desire, just practical alternatives to the pricey Macs. So when I heard about the upcoming Envy line I was pretty excited at the prospect of a PC laptop alternative that didn’t suck. Unfortunately, as hard as HP tried to clone the Macbook experience, the Envy seems to have fallen short of the in almost every way. I guess it comes as no surprise, nobody does it like Mac. Gizmodo has all the details on the Envy, including more pics and a review. I think I’
Ripoff Failure: HP Envy 13

Ha. Ironic that it’s called “Envy,” too.
I recently purchased a Sager notebook. Really good for high performance notebooks if you are interested. Not the most attractive though I must admit, but I have the power of a high end desktop on a laptop.
scott-
wow, those Sager’s are fast, looking at the site now, this one isn’t that bad looking (speaking relatively) and it has eSATA built in?? awesome. not sure why that’s not yet standard on all laptops. They’re bricks too, so tall! But I guess that’s the trade off for having that kind of power packed in there. I remember my friend had an Alienware back when those were the hottest thing out. Was pretty fast but not all that impressive…at least not considering the price. You should throw OS X on you sager, would probably blow doors off any MBP available.
That’s good. Now i can buy this one to make the thieves confused and save my mac from evil hands.
I’ve sworn off HPs now that I’ve started having tons of problems with my current one. It’s a lower end notebook, but I’ve had other PCs in the same price range with way fewer issues than this HP. I’m pretty sure my next computer will be a Mac. I don’t totally buy into the idea that they’re superior to PCs, but I might as well try them out since I plan on investing more into my next computer than I have in the past.
I don’t have a ton of experience with laptops (just my crappy Acer) which has a fare share of problems. The HP looks ok but the Mac definitely wins out… as always Apple makes the most beautiful things IMO. Also wanted to say; love this blog guys been reading for a few years now. Can’t wait for new Tycho music. It keeps me company while I save money for my own music gear.
Wow… When I see a large company making a ripoff product like this “Envy”, I really loose respect for that company. They’re just like: “Oh we see that the Apple design is selling really well. Maybe we should try wrapping our not-so-good PC in a similar design”. Christ… You would think that HP had enough talented people to come up with unique designs on their own?
$1700!
I can’t justify spending this much on a computer anymore. About five years ago I spent about $2000 and built myself a computer. I’m now using a $400 Acer instead of that. Granted, its not the best, but its held its own working with 27X40 inch posters at 300dpi that were several gigs in size.
Well, it is called the “ENVY”.
Mac Envy.
I think it was not a wise idea to call a Mac clone “Envy” 😉 However, design is the only thing I really like about Mac and the last thing I pay attention to when buying a laptop. I think my Dell must look pretty ugly compared to Mac, but it works perfectly and stores all my data….That’s all I want from a laptop.
A good design is the one that makes your work convenient. The keyboard looks very handy, maybe the gap between the keys is too big and you can mistype sometimes.
I like the HP envy 13 it is very sleek design and ultraportable. It comes with external dvd writer and blu-ray reader. And with the battery slice, the notebook last about more than 10 hours. Read HP Envy 13 Laptop for more specs and info of this nice notebook.
Hey I found this web site to be actually interesting! Bookmarked!
Thanks for the post. If you don’t mind my asking, what blog theme are you using? Is it available Free or is it a custom design? Thanks.
I’d like to go to your weblog more usually but these days it seems to be taking forever to return up. I visit from work, and our connection there is fairly good. Do you assume the issue might be in your finish?
