Royksopp & Erlend Oye: Smiths Cover

Erlend Oye
This track is off the Erlend Oye’s DJ Kicks compilation it’s a Royksopp track that Erlend Oye sang Smith lyric’s over and the group Silicon Soul did a remix of it, kinda crazy right? but i guess when everyone is all on electronic music making program’s things like this can happen overnight by just sharing files so that everyone can get to the parts of the song. The end of the song is the starting of another song, i can’t find the song by itself, i think it was exclusive to the CD, hope you enjoy.

This is a great cover of “There is a light that never goes out”. Smiths, Röyksopp, Erlend Øye? Totally awesome.

Has anyone heard any news from Erlend? I’ve been waiting for something..anything! new from this guy. That DJ Kicks has been by far my favorite of the lot.

You ever like Schneider TM? He did a really cool version of the Smiths song on his old Binokular release..Check it! I thought I was the coolest kid in school among all my Moz friends back in the day!

    good post!

I really have to say that Erlend Oye is one of my favorite musicians, not only his more “danceable” “DJ Kicks” Album or “Unrest”, also the projects “Whitest Boy Alive” and “Kings of Convenience” are simply amazing…thanks for posting it, I haven’t listened to it in a great while

It sounds to me as though this is just a *really* well crafted mix of Erlend’s acapella over the Silicone Soul Dub… hence only available on the DJ Kicks album.

I don’t know whether you could recreate it on a pair of turntables – would depend on the relative pitch of the tracks – but Traktor / Ableton / Acid / Logic maestros could knock a bootleg out fairly easily 😉

You really can’t mention Royksopp without a link to their amazing information graphics video that goes along with ‘Remind Me’: http://youtube.com/watch?v=lBvaHZIrt0o

I have to say the Schneider TM version is far superior to this version. If you have not heard it please check it out.

In his live sets he sings over tracks, so this is him doing just that. I have the unimixed vinyl of DJ Kicks and they are seperate tracks. you can see him doing it here.. at the end of the video
