Ryan Schude (Site | Flickr) is a Los Angeles (via Chicago, San Francisco, and San Diego) based photographer. I’m loving the honesty in a lot of these, they feel really raw and relatable. The staged shots are nice but I’m really gravitating toward the more candid moments he’s captured. Definitely getting a Joe Stevens vibe off the various automotive shots in there, really cool stuff. Also, my new dream is to have a yellow tent full of photographic equipment.

Haha! In the last shot I bet that dude went flying off the stack & landed on his hip by his shoe’s in true Mattress-Man glory! That’s a great shot, looks just like a regular pic from a party or something, Pop-Up flash only… & Sriracha.
I really dig the staged shot with the woman/mannequin in it. Firstly, the COLOR of that room along with the TV, adjustable lamp, faux-fruit, chandelier, and finally the CURTAINS really make this come together for a complete feel. His intricate use of flashes in that shot, along with the other heavy flash work on his site, really makes me wish we had a shot from the model’s perspective, looking back. I bet there are umbrella’s & bounce cards all OVER the place… His work is definitely interesting, & pretty fresh.
Always been a huge fan of his work. He’s got a real good thing goin on.
The greatest part is the Sriracha pepper sauce on the table in front of the air mattresses.
Maybe that guy is gonna pound some sushi or Thai food after a successful landing.
That last image looks crazy fun!
What’s relatable? The mattress jump? Guess we’re all tempted by that one…
Nice to see Ryan getting more and more exposure these days. If you’re interested, here’s the url to a Top 5 he did,

Never try the mattress jump. It ruined my life.
I destroyed my shoulder doing the same thing. Belly flop arms out, body sunk, arms stayed out. Broke the socked, dislocated the motherfucker. Never been the same since. Lost my job (used to be a MLB pitcher) so I am just hanging out in my section 8 studio apartment living a mere 800 feet from the boarder of Mexico… collecting disability and medicating my now bad back (Injured it in physical therapy for my shoulder) god damn nurse pushed a weight rack over onto me when I was almost out of there. Now I’m on 250 + mg. oxycotin a day and that keeps me up so I have to take 4-8 bars Xanax mixed with copious amounts of alcohol to even sleep… SOME ONE KILL ME PLEASE!
That yellow tent filled with an arsenal of photo equipment is actually from the PhootCamp.com project. You should check it out if you’re into professional photo projects with a Walden twist.
Oh wow, that’s crazy to see that name again!
Waaaay back in the day, Ryan used to shoot for Daily Bread (RIP) a San Diego based magazine where I worked for a few years, his shots always stood out from the magazine.
grew up looking at his photos in daily bread.
good to see people go from sports photography to the art world.
