Sebastien Tellier

Sébastien Tellier
You may know Tellier from the Lost In Translation soundtrack or his CD being the only album available to purchase at every American Apparel retailer which probably are the 2 best ways(soundtracks and lifestyle shops) to get a record heard these days. If you haven’t already take a moment and at least listen to La Ritournelle, the first half is early Coldplay-ish but the second half when he starts singing i think of it being one of the best licensable tracks out there if edited right to video.

Beat me by 3 minutes posting today’s music post!

Mmm, Sebastien Tellier. I haven’t heard this album yet – great tracks.

    I call tomorrow morning 😉

  2. Jakub says:

haha, you should still do one!

dig deep in your crates and give us a nice history lesson.

been listening to your posts alot, i wanted to devote a post to Tangerine Dream but maybe you can do that better than i could.

  3. Closet Metalhead says:

Thank you for Sebastien! I’m hooked. Well the Euros sure know how to concentrate on arrangements, melodies, and subtleties.

  4. mango says:

Sébastien Tellier, Great Recommendation. Thanks Scott

  5. Jon says:

Both songs are fantastic, and Lost is one of my favourites of the last couple years. Amazing stuff. Check out the video for La Ritournelle on youtube.

  6. Jeremy Stereo says:

“La Ritournelle” sometime play a role of the soundtrack to my life.

    amazing melody.

  7. Jakub says:

La Ritournelle’s melody is unreal, i suggest downloading the La Ritournelle (Mr Dan`s Magic Wand Mix) since its only 3:21 and gets to the vocal early plus wonderful additions guitar wise

  8. Ted says:

The second track is actually called “Look”, not “Lost”. I really enjoy the cover art to the Sebastien Tellier Sessions as well. A famous illustrator made it…can’t remember who.

Tony Allen, a highly-regarded drummer and originator of Afrobeat, plays drums on La Ritournelle. Such an amazing song.

  9. Roland says:

I don’t really see the Coldplay comparison.

  10. Jakub says:

    Ted –

Thanks man, i got the MP3 from a friend

  11. Great tracks.
The drums on the first track are surprisingly messy! not in a good way.

  12. Beamer says:

@Jakub – Haha, I actually have one already drafted. Maybe we should collab on it 🙂

  13. Clint says:

    Hey Jakub or Scott…

I don’t know if you guys have heard about hypem.com or not… but have you considered putting iso50.com on their list of blogs to pull audio tracks from? I love a lot of the music that is posted, but the music player only lets me listen to one track at a time… I’d love to be able to listen to it all!

(That and add these tracks to my online playlist; half of this stuff i can’t find anywhere else!)

  14. jon says:

Here I am thinking that my MP3 was labeled wrong 😉

  15. Scott says:

ahhh yes…. Ritournelle, Jeff turned me onto this a while back. great post jakub.

  16. Pedro says:

    For those that dont know,
Sebastien was one of the great surprises of this years eurovision contest (a inter-european wide television song contest thats been around for decades). This has been normally a cheesy contest in the last decade, with most countries normally presenting lousing excuses for a song. Sebastien approach was fresh, humorous, and out of the standards for this kind of event, wich brought him to my attention.

  17. Pedro says:

oh and clint: go to deezer.com and type sebastien tellier…

  18. sean patrick says:

the drumming sounds like tony allen. which would be great if it was. does anyone know if it is?

  19. Chris says:

I’ve always thought that this piano intro sounds like Coldplay. Good catch.

  20. Ted says:

    Sean,

Yep, it’s Tony Allen! Have you heard him on Air’s “Once Upon A Time”?

  21. sean patrick says:

indeed i have. his drumming is so distinct. you can always pick him out! i agree with brian eno….”one of the best drummers ever…”

  22. AndresM says:

LOVE this album. Was on continuous play for a few weeks for me.

For one of the best tracks of the 2007: ( at work and I can’t find a link to it!)
    Chivers as a female

from the “Steak” soundtrack done by Mr. Oizo, Sebastien Tellier, and Sebastian

  23. I’ve heard his music a long time ago and I instantly fell in love with it, he’s a quirky one and I like that. Besides that, Tellier himself has a beard! Always cool in my book. For some reason music I like tends to become populer 😛

  24. Paco says:

    Great post!
But I think his best song is “le long de la rivière tendre”. I think it was composed for a film or something…

    enjoy!

  25. lau says:

“La ritournelle” and coldplay !!!??? Ô_Ô

  26. Ixley says:

not sure about the Coldplay comparison, but definitely into these tracks. I might even head over to an AA to cop the album today… You ever consider setting something up with Amazon or other stores with affiliate links? I don’t buy a ton of music, but have definitely been turned onto some great stuff from your blog and subsequently purchased tracks or albums…

  27. Jakub says:

Try Don’t Panic by Coldplay, it just gives off the same feel alot of the same instruments being played too

  28. Daniel says:

Thanks for the message. Now I’m hooked on his music!!

  29. Daniel says:

His music is amaaazing. At first I thought his best track is Look but ‘Le Ritournelle’ is actually even better. Instant classic. It’s a song which grows and grows bigger…..!

    Thanks for the advice, Scott.
