Love these shots by Chris. I lived in Cairo for a year back in 98/99 and my favorite thing to do was go for drives through the desert. I definitely remember sights like these, especially that first one. If it wasn’t a gas station it was a bus stop in the middle of nowhere.

These images are fantastic. However, for some weird reason, I feel as though these are coming from a Nikon…? I would really love to know.
I’ve noticed a few “canon” comments on this blog. To set the record straight – these images look great b/c of the post work, the framing and the general artistry. they could have been shot with just about any professional camera: canon, nikon, Mamiya, hasselblad etc.
I own all canon gear – but I’m pretty confident that it doesn’t really matter that much.
I used to fall into the trap of wondering what gear certain pros had – thinking if I had the exact gear – my results would be the same, alas that is simply very untrue…
That seems to be a Dacia 1310 (an old Romanian car).

Of course that argument is as old as photography itself, and your position on it has been correct for just as long (we have asserted the same many times in posts on this blog).
But, I notice when I shoot Canon I get different results than from my Nikon (of course). I was not implying that these images are great because of the type of camera they were taken with, I was only making the point that (and perhaps I’m imagining things) there seems to be some detectable difference between nikon and canon images. something about the color, at least to me there is, like I said, could be way off base.
But yeah, a bad photo from a Nikon wouldn’t have been better if shot with a Canon, and vice versa. But I will say that they raw output of each platform has some identifying characteristics, no?

These images are a perfect example of a “minimal and emptiness” notions in a positive way. I love them!
