Mike Joyce has created an excellent — and rather extensive — collection of re-imagined vintage punk / indie rock posters in the International Typographic Style. Beautiful stuff, you can even score some prints from the Swissted Shop.

is it completely moronic if I have to ask if that’s helvetica?
^ it’s not
gang of four, the band, and that poster.
Wow, love this!
These are amusing at first, but then I seem to think that this is the kind of stuff that is wrong with graphic design today. Yes, it’s midcentury modern blah blah, but frankly, these are not executed very thoughtfully. Also, why did the designer do this? He seems to be exploiting this style for no apparent reason, which not only cheepens the look of the typographic style but is counterintuitive to idea of communication something graphically, i.e. graphic design.
Wow, I feel like such a hater.
Ryan-
I think you raise some valid concerns, and I’m really against what seems to be the recent trend of labelling anyone with a dissenting opion or critique of someone’s work as a “hater”. It prevents what could be useful dialog on the subject.
In this case I see what you’re saying, and I see a lot of this around these days. But I guess I just like this style so much that I’m a sucker for anything that conjures up that feeling for me.
Thanks for replying, Scott. As styles and movements come and go so quickly these days, it’s easy to pick one up and duplicate it for whatever reason. In this case it’s an exploratory exercise done for fun, and that’s great—nothing wrong with that. Beautiful, even. But if these were actual gig posters they just don’t make sense conceptually.
As a lover of this style myself I feel I needed to vent my concerns, and this particular example was enough to do it for me.
Your blog is great. I also like “Swissted” for the title. I appreciate you sharing this with the rest of us Scott.
That’s a vague move in date .you may find the ideal renter, but if you have to enetxde the move-in date, they’ll just find another place that is ready .., or worse, you sign a lease w/ them, and can’t let them move in ..you’ll be paying for their hotel, and expenses ..While a sign in your yard is free running an ad can be pricey you’re hoping to find an ideal tenant who is flexible with their move-in date??? That is unreasonable this far out ..Financially speaking, two 1/2 months out w/ no definitive move in date, is a waste of everyone’s time I would wait until you can provide an EXACT move in date ..
