Another track from what is fast becoming my favorite poet-scientist-philosopher-band, Mahogany (you may remember them from this post). This one is off their "Connectivity!" album. It doesn’t get much better than this bassline; I think they used a Rickenbacker bass and that sounds a lot like a Casio for the chorus melody, simply amazing. They also happen to have some beautiful album covers. Anyone know who does the artwork? Also, anyone know why I don’t live in Lima, Peru so I can see them live?…Seems to be the only place they play. The View From The People Wall

After listening to and enjoying Tycho for a bit I checked out your site and have followed your blog since. Terrific design, great perspective, and I really appreciate your sharing of the music that you are enjoying. My listening expands with each of your recommendations. Just purchased some Mahogony. Rock on.
Nice mixture of sounds– I checked out the “Musical Beginnings” thing on their MySpace– you can definately pick up on shoegaze and indie influences, which I think are delightful.
I think IDM and indie rock soundscapes compliment each other quite nicely when they are combined the right way– by paying attention to the attitudes you create…for example, I can see a mixture of Boards of Canada and Tokyo Police Club working if done right…look at the Silversun Pickups Remixes that just came out for a good example. Telefon Tel Aviv did an awesome remix of American Analog Set’s “The Green Green Grass.”
How about Aphex Twin meets My Bloody Valentine?
Damn they’re good, I just bought Connectivity off iTunes– I think One Plus One is my fav song, the basslines are some of the best I’ve ever heard in any genre…that Rickenbacker is sick!
They actually have 2 bass players (or at least, they had at the time of recording this track, lineup’s slimmed down since then). Really good band, I can’t wait to hear whatever they follow up ‘Connectivity’ with. ‘My Bed Is My Castle’ is my fave..
All Mahogany artwork is by the talented designer Andrew Prinz, who is also the founding member of the band. I haven’t spoken with Andrew since around 2002, but at the time the band was based in Brooklyn, NYC (via Michigan). Check out their early releases on Clairecords, including a series of UK 45’s they put out in the late 90’s. The music and design is superb throughout. Enjoy.
Wow, cool man, big thanks! http://lwaafqafea.com
