More about the TMA-1 Heaphones in this video:
This is by no means intended to be a suck-up, but I’ve given Coastal Brake a lot of spins in the last few months, so I’d probably have to say that.
This is an easy answer.
Dusty Brown.
I just checked my iTunes and ‘Stevey Wonder’ is far and away my most played song 🙂 I would love a pair of TMA-1 headphones so I could enjoy Dusty Brown at work as well as at home (and look awesome at the same time!)
from what i’ve heard here this year so far, i’d definitely go for Bonobo and his Black Sands.
And since last night, i’m very much into Matthew Dear.. Black City is more then worth the buy (sadly though, digital only at the moment).
Got to be Salem – King Night. Can’t believe how heavy rotation this track has received over the last month. Truly inspirational.
it’s Zodiac shit from Flying Lotus, a perfect song for cruising in the city 😉
I never listened to the type of music posted on here until i started following the blog. To be completely honest my fav has been Tycho! i cant get enough of it! It was never the style I was into but something about it just sounds perfect. I have this website open most of the day (wile i am working anyway) playing though all the songs. Thank you for introducing me to a world I never knew!
fav
song: Four tet – angel echoes (caribou remix)
artist: Bonobo with his “black sands”
It has to be Lusine and Gravity.
I love how unique this song is and the vocal! and the album is to die for ‘A Certain Distance’ 🙂
I really love Panda Bear.
🙂
I do enjoy the dreamy and airy music I can find in most of the playlists, but when I need something more energetic then it has to be the Ikons – Honey (Coyote Remix). It has the right amount of dance+electronic+a bit of mystery that makes it hard not to press the repeat button.
Umm, tough choice because of the insane amount of awesome bands/songs. At this time, i’d go for IKONS. Thanks Jakub for pointing out the label ‘Service’, some quality stuff on there.
For me it’s Computer Magic – Electronic Fences. I left the indie scene years ago, but I always get so happy when some of that stuff still moves me 🙂
BEAT CONNECTION – SUNBURN 🙂
Split between Bonobo’s Black Sands and Via Tania’s Fields.
to rococo rot – horses
(because there is no nosaj thing nor roll the dice)
mux mool! and then bonobo.
I’m not really a fan of the music you guys post here, some things are pretty great but most are just not my thing.
I am however a *huge* fan of Tycho (I know that’s you Scott) and I just love that so I’ll cheat by saying that’s what I like since Coastal Brake is in the playlist 😀
Totally not intending to kiss your ass, it’s just that it’s really the only thing that’s attracted me musically to the blog. Otherwise I’m just here for the design bits.
Headphones look pretty awesome, I’ve got a pair of AKG 272HDs myself and love’em but hell, another pair of awesome headphones is never a bad thing 😀
has to be ‘dusty brown – this city is killing me’, great track.
ceo: come with me
song of the year for me.
Its Tycho, you producer of amazing landscapes you!
Your work took over from being my most listened to, after yppah’s first album. your music tunes straight in to my ear
I would use the headphones to play my first live set, im in much need after mine decided to break in 2 places at the same time
If I may add something though, I feel that these headphones are a bit vapourware because any studio-class headphones should include a couple of diagrams of important stats such as a frequency response curve to actually see if there are areas where they perform less than perfect.
Still, they look great and they probably sound pretty good too. However from the video I take it they’re the modern kind of headphones with a boomy bass and shrieking hi-tones. I’m more of a classical man myself, I’m just crazy about mid-bass.
Panda Bear!
Can’t wait for the new record.
Wax Stag – Folk Rock and the remix by Bibio. Was on repeat for a long while 🙂
whoops, wrong url
Siriusmo – Nights Off !
800beloved – everything purple / tame impala – alter ego
I would have to say Dusty Brown
Sun Araw, for sure!
So many wonderful tracks to choose from. But Aerial Pink got me back into the 4AD label once again.
Com Truise – Slow Peels has me dizzy, running around, smiling in my dreams. Now that is an AWESOME track.
I’m gonna have to go with You by Gold Panda… recent, I know, but I absolutely love it.
Lately (Deuxième)
The guinea pig set in the music video tided me over.
Flying Lotus & House Shoes – The Makings … great! Always!
Dusty Brown, specifically ‘How’s That’. They are a band that I just never, ever would have found if not for this blog – and I love them!
Röyksopp
Flying Lotus!
Delorean Real love
I love the fact that they still exist under the radar.
My finger are crossed. Had my eye on the the TMA-1 development for a while now, ‘specially after seeing Flying Lotus wearing them
Ma Halo – Sun Araw.
Which has totally sucked me into the worlds of Oneohtrix Point Never and Emeralds too.
Always great new music here but it’s got to be Small Black – Despicable Dogs (Washed Out Mix) from the Ocean of Lips Mixtape. It’s so melancholic that I can’t help but ponder deep stuff.
>
Also, my head exploded when I found Dusty Brown – EP on itunes before it was mysteriously removed (Could someone explain that?) and then it exploded again when I discovered Tycho and once more when I found out that they were friends. Plus getting “This City is Killing Me” for free (if I had any money to donate, I would…) was a recent highlight in my musical life.
>
So I guess thanks for all the enlightenment…and those banana-phones. Just pop them in my box. I love you.
I really (really) love Panda Bear.
CEO – Come With Me (06/30/10)
ooh.. The Bonbo entry was definitely a winner for me, but I’ve been following him for years, so I’d probably have to go with Peter Kern’s Anaxagoras… That was a while ago, was that still this year?
Hello! These headphones look incredible. My favourite song (and now one of my favourite artists) that you’ve posted was LePetitPrince by Cubesato, which was the soundtrack to the Vanishing Point video Alex posted back in January. I also wish it was longer…!
Bullion – Caroline, No
I listened to their/his/her mix quite a bit this year.
Cold War by the Morning Benders, love that song.
TEEN DAZE
Kisses – People Can do the most amazing things.
Loving the feel of that.
Yo La Tengo.
My favorite so far is Gold Panda’s You, the slow beat makes it work-friendly for me. 🙂
Lorelei by Cocteau Twins popped up in one of your playlists this year. So old but so so hauntingly beautiful.
Foxes in Fiction has been a great discovery for me this year, courtesy of the plug for “Swung from the Branches” back at the end of June. Wonderfully relaxing ambient that isn’t afraid to pick up the pace every now and then just to keep things interesting.
I have to go for Lindstorm & Christabelle – Lovesick (four tet remix) absolutely loving this joint, then again, there is so much dope music in this place that I can’t honestly say that this is the best. I just hit play and keep going through your collection over and over. Now imagine listening to these tracks in a TMA-1. NOW THAT’S, JUST ILL SON.
keep doing what y’all do. Loving the variety of tunes up in this place. Need a bit more of your high quality cheery pickin’ good funky Dub Step though, somethin’ to make my brain and feet bleed with da bass line.
Peace
I really love “A Tear In My I” by Keep Shelly in Athens but i think it has to be Four Tet “Angle Echos”(Caribou remix) i’ve been listening to it so much recently and its great to hear in a club.
My favorite most surely has to be Oneohtrix Point Never – Zones Without People. It conjures up hazy memories of playing with Polaroid cameras and looking at old science books from the 60s and 70s.
Those headphones look incredible. It would be great not only to listen to their audio quality but also to wear such well-designed equipment. It makes them even more desireable that they were tweaked to the specifications of Ghostly artists!
Hard decision as there have been some fantastic aural delights and new discoveries posted…BUT i’m opting for the following:
Tame Impala
The main reason is the raw psychedelic-ness of the band…loved it and bought the albums.
Thanks for the great blog:-)
I’ll go for Ratatat : LP4,
’cause that record is a blast but I can’t help mentioning Four-Tet : There is Love in You (and all the remixes that the songs featured in the record have been able to spawn two for all angel echoes – Caribou rmx and same track Jon Hopkins rmx)
Cheers!
renzo
Ah! So much good music comes to me via this blog. But, I gotta say that my world has been rocked by Com Truise lately. Can’t stop listening.
Rockin.
I wanted to say Oneohtrix because I love their name, but I just keep returning to Caribou after first hearing him here, so that gets my vote.
Keep up the good work!
Odd Nosdam’s Up In Flames…lots of other great songs but this is one I was completely in the dark about
Baths – Maximalist
Cerulean is in my Top 10 of ’10 for sure!
Beach Fossils – Daydream. From probably the first or second playlist of 2010.
Definitely Memoryhouse’s ‘Lately’, beautiful track and great video too. Lush spacey vocals and rugged lo-fi production: delcicious.
Probably Ratatat – Party with Children. I’ve been into Ratatat for quite awhile so it’s the obvious choice for me.
Though not in the Ghostly family (you guys post too many good tracks to remember all of them) , I would say the one track I listened to that introduced me to one of my favorite albums this year is Radio Dept- Heaven’s on Fire, catchy and fun.
Bonobo!
I listen indie rock (or generally rock) pretty much only from your blog posts. Thanks for introducing interesting stuff. The Sight Below Post Rock Era mix was huge.
I’ve loved Panda Bear 😀 too great!
tom vek – I Ain´t saying my goodbyes, very good song!!
It’s so hard to tell which one artist or song is my favorite. Your team and I have a lot of the same likes in music so more than half of the tracks you put up on your blog are bands that I like. Although if I have to choose one I’m going to have to go with Kings of Convenience and “Ms Cold”. It was on Playlist 5. Great track. His vocals suck you into the song and the sound is soothing and catchy to the ears. I have also been getting down to his other band The Whitest Boy Alive. Their album Rules has great tracks from beginning to end.
I have to say, CEO – Come With Me
Perfect summer-tune.
Editors – In this light and on this evening !
I have to go with Shigeto…I love the hip-hop influence–which I find tasteful and not overpowering–underlying the glitch. All of it is great to design to, even if I’m only designing newspaper ads and nothing terribly noteworthy! But even so, like most Ghostly music I’ve heard, it is very relaxing to sit back and chill to. Now, if only I had some super sweet headphones to do that with!
I’m still diggin “I Ain’t Saying My Goodbyes” by Tom Vek.
Funny, my favorite of the songs you’ve posted just appeared a few days ago. Surf’s Up is my favorite Beach Boys song. I don’t know how Brian Wilson did it, I guess it’s out of sheer genius that he’s able to conger up such vivid images of sea and surf and sand. The slow, lumbering, sleepy chorus, the coda breaking through the clouds and the tempered and patient verses, it’s as though the whole West Coast was born the day he wrote that song. I played Surf’s Up at least three times the day you posted it, it does a lot for the imagination of a Chicago boy. Thanks.
J
Probably not typical choice but Mayer Hawthrone. I am not a big fan of electronic music, but learning much about it and the community from you guys, and MH music was great at the time.
Oh man, my favorite artist I learned about here on ISO50… its probably a tie between MuxMool and Best Coast. I love them both for different reasons. Both their newest albums haven’t disappointed either!
hands. down. COM TRUISE. ‘slow peels’.
CEO- Come With Me was at first, annoying, but now I cannot get enough of that song.
Oh No Ono – Eleanor Speaks (Caribou remix)
Thank’s!
I really like Summer Sun, so I choose Beach party tonight, Yo La Tengo. Panda bear a close second, I think.
Oh, definitely Yo La Tengo! They’re awesome!
Hammock – Breathturn — Awesome track, with a brilliant video…
Hammock – Breathturn – Awesome track, awesome video had to wait a while to get it, but worth the wait!
the morning benders!
“Shigeto – What We Held On To”
Thank you & the whole team so much for this wonderful blog!
Juana Molina — Un Dia? Was that this year? Seems like only yesterday!
Dusty Brown’s “How’s That”
Great track!
It’s been a long year… recently though I’ve quite enjoyed Cherry by Ratatat.
‘Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out (Charles Trees Work Out Plan Mix)’
The ‘Covers’ mixtapes have been so much fun, and introduced me to Mayer Hawthorne’s gem of an album, ‘Strange Arrangement’.
I really digged the Panda Bear preview. Such etheral sounds!
I can’t get enough of the Deastro track “Orange Summer.”
the tom croose remix of eagle fantasies by mux mool. can’t get enough of it.
Piano Magic’s “Halloween Boat”.
Black Sands by Bonobo. I had it on repeat at the office for days!
I think my favorite song you’ve posted is Domestic Scene by The Radio Dept.
I’m going to go with Best Coast’s “Boyfriend.”
Van Dyke Parks’s album Song Cycle!
I’d never heard of him before reading about him at iso50… and now he’s on regular rotation in my ipod.
The Hundred In The Hands – Sleepwalkers
I keep finding myself coming back to this track, it makes me want to dance, dammit.
While I’ve made Jakub’s recommendations here part of my music diet, the post that pushed me over the edge was 5-13’s on Javelin and JDSY. It sent me in a tail spin of summer synth avant pop that I’ve yet to recover from. It’s inspired several mixtapes and now I’m trying to make some tunes of my own.. therefore I NEED these bad ass headphones. So I can create better sounds and get them featured in one of these post.
I can dream, right?
Mus be Iwywaw by Com Truise. Loved the video also!
I was so stoked when a week ago Jakub posted Ratatat’s “Cherry” saying it could be his favorite Ratatat track. I thought to myself, “…omg, samesies…” When I first heard that song a few years ago, I couldn’t take it off of repeat if I tried. Every time I listen to it, the great moment of release at 3:34 gets better and better.
I’ve heard some real hits this year but I have to say, Onra’s “Long Distance” was pretty life-changing for me.
I’ve just recently been exploring the 80’s revival that’s been happening, and it started with Washed Out’s “Feel It All Around”. Onra pushed it over the edge for me!
It even inspired me to start sampling and writing some ducking beats of my own. I picked up an Akai MPK49, a copy of Ableton, and began converting my vinyl to WAVs. It’s been an interesting learning experience, having played music in bands for many years but never venturing into the “sampling” realm.
Onra’s provided me with some great inspiration to look to! Thanks for that!
My favourite is Fire Ant fron Bibio.
cheers 😉
Really loving Com Truise’s “Slow Peels”. Good times indeed. It’ll sound soooooo good coming through my new headphones!
Probably Hubble by Actress, really feeling the genre mishmash style he and Mt. Kimbie favor. Slow Peels is definitely up there too!
I really enjoyed Electric Fence by Computer Magic
I’m all about Star Slinger right now and I really like Slow ‘N’ Wet.
I’ve been feeling the Shigeto “What We Hold On To” release. The blend of rhythms and atmospheric textures is ‘spot on’ like my peoples say on the other side of the pond.
The Knife – Colouring of Pigeons
Ma Halo by Sun Araw. One of my fav tracks of the year definitely.
It’s a recent one, Stevey Wonder by Dusty Brown.
Love The XX – Islands, and everything else on the site!
Really digging “playing in subway stations” by serengeti and polyphonic. Good for contemplative moments
Really digging “playing in subway stations” by serengeti and polyphonic. Good for contemplative moments
***wrong e-mail address in first listing
It’s all about Caribou for me at the moment, so the track from the new album you posted (Caribou – Hannibal) would be my choice.
Easy, “Cherry” by Ratatat.
I’d have to say Happy Up Here by Royksopp. I actually went and bought it off iTunes afterwards.
“Intentions” from The Whitest Boy Alive has always been one of my favorite tracks. WBA is his best project, in my opinion; I love the synthy 80s feel that so many of the tracks have. It makes me feel like I am living in Miami beach 30 years ago, cruising slowly up the boulevard. Thanks for continually introducing me to some awesome music!
Emeralds has been a regular since you linked to their album.
Thanks!
A bit of a throwback but I gotta say – Van Dyke Parks. I always knew him as “the guy that helped write SMiLE”, but I had no idea he released music as a solo artist. Song Cycle really kind of floored me in way that most modern music hasn’t in a while. ISO50 is certainly an informative outlet for new and exciting modern music – but your respect and frequent homage to artists of the past certainly prove your credibility.
School Of Seven Bells – Babelonia
Small Black – Despicable Dogs (Washed Out remix)
Really loving Ratatat, after that track you posted last week. Cheers!
They’re gorgeous phones too…
Efterklang – Modern Drift
Not easy, but love this song.
Com Truise. Highlight of the summer, no doubt.
Black Sands by Bonobo. More Please!
I love the Beat Broker track, “Deep Sleep” you posted a while back. I bought the 12″ shortly after hearing it and I play it all the time.
Boyfriend – Best Coast
Baths – Maximalist is one of my favorites
Kings of Convenience – Mrs. Cold
Thanks for turning me on to these guys. (and Whitest Boy Alive for that matter)
Dusty Brown for certain
So much good music here but Emeralds had me hitting “buy” in itunes immediately.
If it weren’t for your playlists….
PL7 mos def was one of my favs. Although I dig pretty much everything you post here, Little Dragon – Feather was a track that just really stuck with me. They are one of many groups I would of never heard if it weren’t for your blog.
Bravo! Thanks for the ear candy.
Definitely Best Coast – Boyfriend. Also can’t get enough of that band name – makes me smile every time.
Toro Y moi – leave everywhere
Best Coast – Boyfriend. Your post was my first time hearing this band. So I looked them up, downloaded their album, fell in love with the album, and then saw them live at Pier 17 in nyc all within two weeks. It’s rare for me to not only discover an artist and fall in love with them in that time but to also see them live made it all so perfect. And they play at the Bowery Ballroom Later this year!
Most of the play lists really just strike a chord with me and maybe it is lame to post something recent but I am going to go with Skream – Reflections. I think it stunned me that someone I associate with the wobble could make something so beautiful and like something I would play in one of my dj sets.
The wonderful Yagya
Oh No Ono – Eleanor Speaks (Caribou remix)
Re-Thanks!
Has to be Bonobo – All in Forms, featured back in March. Bought the album pretty much immediately, and have never looked back.
tycho – from home (mux mool remix)
i could really use some headphones…
Defiantly a must for every music lover is Bonobo with Black Sands. One of Ninja Tune’s best youngsters. I love all his material!
Jori Hulkkonen- I Am Dead (CFCF Remix)
Kisses “People Can Do The Most Amazing Things”
great groove, good chorus, nicely layered. all round solid composition
Memoryhouse – Lately.
It’s somehow modern and timeless. Fantastic.
im for skream – reflections
Lindstrom & Christabelle – Love Sick (Four Tet Remix)
Washed Out, for certain.
I can listen to Engineers by Let’s Just See for a long time.
Baths – Maximalist
all the way, I just love that tune.
Little Dragon!!
Phantogram – When I’m small.
Blew my mind from the opening beat.
Tom Vek I ain’t saying goodbyes was easily one of the best songs posted. More like that to come?
The Whitest Boy Alive – 1517
Absolutely digging his stuff now – thanks!
Tom Vek I ain’t saying goodbyes is the best of this year
Mux Mool!
Computer Magic, definitely-definitely. I’ve been listening to her stuff heavily ever since.
This might be obvious, but I’m digging Dusty Brown recently, I actually found out about him/them from this blog. I’m listening to This City is Killing Me right now.
I’m no musician, but being an industrial designer I appreciate how AiAiAi is able to bring simplicity and beautiful functionality to such a ubiquitous product (headphones) and still keep it fresh. I’d love a pair of those!
Toro Y Moi
Com Truise for sure. The Komputer Cast (1) has lit this summer up.
dusty brown – this city is killing me
song builds like a beast and pulls in with the glitchy break beat and that almost g-funk synth line. hot. stuff.
Really been diggin that Dusty Brown lately.
Hmm… I’d say Caribou… and Solvent.
You by Gold Panda! It’s the electronic music version of a summer breeze.
I would say Flying Lotus – Zodiac. I always turn that on the playlist to the right when I visit this site.
I’m diggin that Dusty Brown. I’m also digging all the graphic design-related posts, I love these poster styles.
Those headphones look slick!
Gold Panda – You
I just cannot, cannot, ever, stop listening to that one.
Technically this was posted last summer (Summer 2009 Mix), but I love the Mingus Rude edit of Dreams by Fleetwood Mac, it just hit the spot. This year though would be Toro y Moi—love it.
I’m pretty sure I found out about Tobacco and that Black Moth Super Rainbow from this blog. Both at the top of my lists right now. Thanks for that!
Love the Komputer Cast by Com Truise.
It’s got to be Baths for me.
Hope this competition is open to UK residents! In any case, love the site.
sun araw-ma hold
it transports me to a south pacific island with 43 native people living off the land.
Tame Impala – Alter Ego
Thanks ISO50
Without question, Coastal Brake by Tycho. I can’t count the number of times I’ve listened to that song and its remixes.
Easy! It’s Lindstrom and Christabelle – Lovesick (The Four tet remix)
Toro Y Moi with Leave Everywhere got me hooked to him instantly. I didn’t know him, but now I’m slowely discovering and enjoying everything he’s done. So thanks for that! I love getting addicted to one artist 🙂
Difficult to say with certainty, but Birds & Souls by Birds & Souls from the Birds & Souls LP wins.
red house painters cover of “i am a rock”.
hadn’t heard that song before. now its a favorite.
I am fascinated by the full CG-Video “The Third & The Seventh” by Alex Roman. (http://vimeo.com/7809605).
Thanks ISO50
Dusty Brown – This City is Killing ME.
amazing.
That whole Shigeto EP is unreal… After the smoke is one of my favorite songs of the year
Midlake – Roscoe (Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve Remix) (Bella Union)
Amazing remix on an already amazing song. it makes me want to fly.
DASO – Go Upstairs!!!
“Lately” by Memoryhouse is one of the most haunting, surreal songs I’ve ever heard. Incredible music.
Walking on a dream (alex cornell cover) – Empire of the sun
can’t stop jammin truman peyote, best coast steadily slayin’ it too.
thanks for all the greatness
please please please
may the fortunes shine upon me and my ears.
definitely “This City Is Killing Me” by Dusty Brown, love putting that on and cruising around downtown at night
My favorite came with a great visual as well.. MEMORYHOUSE – LATELY.
To me it’s Deastro’a »Orange Swimmer« — always a good one to get the day started.
Surf City – Dickshakers Union
I had heard it way before on the KEXP Music That Matters Podcast but forgot about it. It was a revelation all over again when you posted it up in January.
feel it all around – washed out
it seriously was the foundation of my summer soundtrack
It’s got to be Flying Lotus – zodiac shit. It’s a tune
Caribou: “Odessa”. especially at the 3 minute mark!
-dan.d
My fav: Beirut – Venice (Tom Croose’s City of Water edit)
Venice was a great song to begin with, and the edit just added an incredible sense of tension and anticipation. Great edit.
My favorite song would have to be:
Medications – brazil ’07
It reminds me of this band called Oceanographer that I fell in love with a while ago. You can go listen to their albums here for free:
http://www.oceanographermusic.com/store/
The song it reminds me of is the second song off of their album ‘on leaping from planes’. It’s called stations. check it out if you get a chance.
Jan Jelinek – Up to my same old trick again.
Awesome Artist.
My fav: Memoryhouse “Lately”, so hauntingly beautiful.
Benoit Pioulard covering Hum’s “Little Dipper”. A great tribute from one of the greatest albums out there.
You turned me on to Phantagram, and I’m eternally grateful!
I’ll say the recent “Grandma’s Words/Rise Out of The Stone” by Shigeto !
Bonobo – All In Forms. I never knew about them before but it quickly became one of my favorite albums so far this year. Great stuff.
It’s really difficult to choose just one artist or song, but The Yours Truly video of The Morning Benders performing “Excuses” was excellent.
Spanish Fly-Blonds,
Actually inspired me to write a poem.
Amazing.
One of your playlists included The Hundred in the Hands-Sleepwalkers. Enjoyed it a lot.
I would have to say either Mux Mool or Benoit Pioulard.
Sun Araw, for 2 reasons.
1) Cameron Stallones writes rich, layer-tastic headphone jams.
2) I played him ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico’ for the first time when he was in high school and I feel that I’m now owed some royalties. Send me a check, dude.
Caribou
I loved “Lately (Deuxieme)” by Memoryhouse. Their EP is my new going through the subway/early-morning-can’t-bear-to-hear-anything-too-percussion-ey music.
Phantogram!!! love their sound and feel. Thank you for the excellent recommendation…
Mux Mool – Hog Knuckles
It served as my portal into the world of Mool. I’ve gobbled everything he’s done ever since… thanks!
keep going back to dusty brown’s this city is killing me
Benoit Pioulard all the way
thanks
Folk rock by Wax Stag for sure. Just keeps moving!
Them’s some stylin’ ‘phones. I still can’t get the Can’t Run But cover by Jerome Covington out of my head. It would be even better pumped in their by a pair of TMAs. Great blog from nose to tail, keep up the good work.
Mine’s CEO – Come With Me
School of Seven Bells are pretty rad. And cant forget that amazing free Dusty Brown ep!
I would have to say the Morning Benders have been a solid listen so far. Loved the in studio “wall of sound” video as well.
Warpaint are great. And I agree,
School of Seven Bells, too.
Phantogram’s “When i’m small”; I had never heard of them before!
Are there two different types of cushioning? Some of the pics on the Ghostly site look like foam but some look like vinyl. Hmmm…looks like a case for Scooby and the gang…
This year… it would have to be Flying Lotus. The whole of Cosmogramma is freakin’ amazing but “Zodiac Shit” is especially bumparific.
Don Cornelius by Black Milk was a totally great call. Pretty different from the stuff that’s usually posted here.
Onra’s “Long Distance” has been my favorite so far!
For me: Ross 154 – Until My Heart stops
one of the best spiritual track ever!
Hmm, I really enjoyed listening to Janelle Monae after hearing about her on here. Dusty Brown would be a close second.
There have been a few, you guys were the first place I heard Best Coast and Deastro. Plus, any site that acknowledges the brilliance of School of Seven Bells is a winner to me.
i loved Hourglass by GRAVENHURST….i have since acquired more of their tunes.
I would have to say either Benoit Pioulard or Morning Benders.
Lindstrom & Christabelle’s Lovesick!!!
I’m a nerd, so I’ll pick the Carl Sagan “Glorious Dawn” (Mux Mool Remix). Hot!
Not easy…….but I’m gonna go with Flying Lotus & House Shoes – The Makings
dusty brown, was surprised at how much i ended up spinning that album.
cheers.
Definitely “Suffocation” by Crystal Castles as reworked by Memory Tapes. Yep.
Aaron by Paul Kalkbrenner
It tie for me…
Lindstrøm & Christabelle’s and Toro Y Moi.
When I first heard ‘Lovesick’ my mind didn’t know how to compute the genius that is….
I slept on Toro Y Moi…until I heard ‘Low Shoulders’….ever since then I’ve been vibing to Causers of This.
me loooves Dusty Brown – This City is Killing Me
me would loooove to get a TMA-1 even more!
PBS by Tycho
Lindstrom & Christabelle’s Lovesick
SBTRKT – 2020 is the jam of the year!
It’s the moodiest, sexiest 4 minutes I’ve heard in a long time
Delorean – “Real love”
great stuff !
That live recording of “Carry Me Ohio” by Mark Kozelek is absolutely haunting.
School of Seven Bells for sure
The Rollerskaters – Sleep in the current playlist is pretty freaking awesome. I would love to hear more from them but alas there does not seem to be much on the interweb. Great tune.
I played “Lisztomania (Classixx remix)” about 40 times on repeat after you posted it.
Mark Kozelek – Carry Me Ohio, great great song.
Cold War – The Morning Benders
Cherry Moon by Lorn
Quite a daunting task of picking just one song or band out of all that has been posted over the last 7 months.
It came down between Cherry Moon by Lorn, Cherry by Ratatat, Sundial by The Advisory Circle, and Light Through The Veins by Jon Hopkins. Thanks for putting the effort into finding such talented musicians to share with us.
I would have to pick the Tom Croose edit of Beirut. That one is hypnotic.
Anything by Scott/Tycho of course…but also The Sight Below.
I love that you have such solid giveaways.
One of my favs this year would have to be Bluebrain – Caught Up In The Laughter.
Thanks!
Hmm, tough to pick just one. From the last playlist… Com Truise, The Beat Broker, and Computer Magic !!!
I’d have to say Portishead…
Really nice headphones by the way!
Favorite artist + song = Tame Impala – Solitude Is Bliss
Rollerskaters
SBTRKT – 2020
A Setting Sun – Rasberry
Lorn – Cherry Moon
Com Truise- Slow Peels
I just also noticed that on Com Truise’s myspace my friend/ex-sorta neighbor FUR is on his top friends!
Best music post = Dam Funk
My favorite song will have to be “Hot Boxing the Cockpit” by SHLOHMO.
Definitely Lately – Memoryhouse
Tame Impala – Alter Ego
Benoit Pioulard [legit]
The Radio Dept.! It was on one of the bigger playlists, earlier this year
I can’t decide on a favorite of all the great stuff you’ve posted, but if I had to, it’d probably come down to anything by Dusty Brown.
So much good stuff, its a tricky one, but I consistently keep coming back to Bonobo’s Black Sands..
headphones!
my favourite song has to be sheets by promise and the monster. its more than beautiful.
I’m pretty sure someone posted him a while back but it’s Nick Bertke as POGO with his track Alice.
I’ve been fascinated with his stuff from the moment I first heard him, unreal stuff.
Dean
Benoit Pioulard, without a doubt.
I really enjoyed The Books – The Story of Hip Hop. I bought their album “The Way Out” the same day you posted about it.
Helios – Cross the Ocean
Subtle layers and textures. AWESOME.
Need those headphone to full appreciate!
Man would I love to get my hands on those headphones!
Jon Hopkins – Light Through The Veins
Tame Impala – Alter Ego
School of seven bells / Dust devil
Phoenix 🙂
Best Coast – “Boyfriend”
Why?
Because I just listened to it and it is amazing. ‘Nuff said, I think.
I had never heard of Com Truise before. I passed on his mixes to all my workmates.
I want those headphones!
I’d have to say anything by Oneohtrix Point Never
Great contest –
Off the top of my head, it’s got to be Kisses – “People Can Do The Most Amazing Things”
It’s hard to pick a favorite since so much good stuff gets posted here, but lately I’m really digging on the Com Truise stuff, especially Sundriped.
I Am Waiting For You To Stop Being Mad At Me (Off the Sky Reconstruction) – Rob Theakston
But if it was to include last years it would be Bullion – Long Promised… I’ve now bought all their music!
too many to choose from though…
where to start? hmmm.
Tujiko Noriko’s “Hyuga” is such a melancholic song. it makes me cry a little
The Casino Versus Japan track from Night on Tape, one of my favorite releases of 2010.
Rollerskaters – Sleep Tight or maybe Com Truise – BASF Ace, not sure if that song was on here specifically but man the beat is so fun.
Since I believe that architecture is a kind of frozen music- I am going to have to say that “The House Among Trees” is my favorite “music” that you have posted so far. Looking at the trance inducing photos of the house was like getting lost in one of my favorite songs.
I would have to say Tom Vek’s “I ain’t saying my goodbyes.”
As much as I love most of the music on this site, for a short while it felt like the music being posted was starting to become same-y, like it was just offbeat drums, wind chimes, a xylophone with a poor recording of wind blowing in the background.
Jakub posted the playlist on July 15th, and it was all great stuff, once Tom Vek started playing I knew everything was alright.
For me this comes down to a decision between Stars – He dreams he’s awake, and Slowdive – Slowdive (which was posted in that The Sound Below 40+min mix). I’ll have to give this one to Stars, because like you said when you posted about this song, it does have a very good tension build up and release; it gives me goosebumps. I couldn’t put Sun Kil Moon – Carry Me Ohio in because I just heard it yesterday so I don’t know if it will stay with me but right now I’m really diggin’ it.
Headphone giveaway? You’ve already given us so many gifts in the way of new and often very good music, it’s cheesy, but that’s how I feel anytime someone points me in the way of good music.
Phantogram – “When I’m Small”
I’d have to say my favourite is CEO – Come With Me.
The melody reminds me of “Aquerela do Brasil” every time, and feels so wistful. Makes me think of the 1985 film “Brazil”.
Oneohtrix Point Never – where does time go
That spacey throbbing of fractal audio.
Waves within waves.
Amazing.
“Shigeto – What We Held On To”
Got me addicted to Shigeto.
Com Truise have been great for this summer so i believe that has to be my favorite tunes so far this year.
That Foxes in Fiction cover of Memoryhouse’s “Lately” is fantastic! I’ve been listening to it on near-loop for days.
Well this isn’t actually part of 2010, but it was a few days under a year ago when Mingus Rude’s “Dreams” edit was posted, which would be my first pick. If I had to pick something that actually occured in 2010, I would have to go with PHANTOGRAM.
Tame Impala – Alter Ego
Kisses – People Can do the most amazing things
love it
Sweet headphones!
My favorite song posted this year was Cold War by The Morning Benders. The song is absolutely timeless and has such a feel good vibe. The music video is also pretty cool.. It has Twiggy dancing back in her day. Thanks for turning me onto this band.
JP
The Morning Benders – Excuses
It’s really hard to decide, but Dusty Brown – This City Is Killing Me was the first that came to mind.
Sun Araw,
After listening to them I felt the strong urge to cruise around town in a vector Buick with the windows down.
for me it’s You and I by Washed Out featuring Caroline Polachek. that song has this dreaminess to it that adds to the ambience of a drive down lake shore drive in chicago late at night. love it!
HEADPHONES ‘Gas and Matches’.
LCD Soundsystem – I can Change..
I love “All My Friends” and can’t get enough of it.
Never really had a sick pair of headphones, so I wouldn’t be able to say that I neeeed these, but I figure if I win them, I’d be the first to let you know what I think.
Flying Lotus – Zodiac.
What else?
Tennis — Baltimore
I’ve ordered their 7″ and have been listening to this song obsessively — I’m completely infatuated by this woman’s voice! An incredible summer gem.
“Open the Wormhole in Your Heart” by Warm Ghost
Little Dragon – Feather…. Couldn’t get enough of that song for months! Still, I find it on of the sexiest songs ever… And it made me search more from them… now, they are between my top 10 favorite artists!!!
Easy Answer!
Favorite artist/song that was posted on this blog was : Low Shoulder by Toro Y Moi
DUSTY BROWN FOR THE WIN! This City is Killing Me… all the way.
Cheers!
Fav artist(s): Ratatat and and Dusty Brown…for obvious reasons.
CEO – ‘Come with me’ was my favourite. Got me into more of their music.
Hundred in the Hands – Sleepwalkers
Kisses, People Can do the most amazing things!
Best song posted this year is definitely “How’s That” by Dusty Brown. Beautiful.
Dusty Brown’s been on repeat 1
Ratatat!
Tame Impala — Alter Ego. Can’t get enough of this record.
Gravenhurst – Hourglass
For sure Mux Mool.
I had never heard of him before and heard him first on the site. Fell in love on the first song and bought ALL the albums haha. Still love the music and can’t wait to see more.
Mux Mool!
It has to be your post of “Excuses” by the Morning Benders (Feb 17th). That crackle at the beginning of the track is like starting your day off with a bowl of Rice Crispies and the rest of the song is much like the sugar I dumped onto my cereal when I was a kid. This song feels so nostalgic yet new at the same time. I could listen to this song a thousand times and not get sick of it!
Sun Kil Moon. Has been an everyday part of the office playlist since I first heard his music here. Best discovery all year!
(Syntaks came in on a close 2.)
Not sure if it was featured, but I got it on repeat in my headphones:
Tycho – Dictaphones Lament
let’s go, little dragon.
Coastal Brake is on pretty much everyone of my playlists.
Bonobo’s Black Sands..
Best Coast – Boyfriend
It’s the perfect summer tune, at least for me 😛
Shigeto – Bitter Sweet
Those headphones look beautiful.
Tame Impala – Alter Ego
Nice looking headphones!
I have to also go with Lusine’s ‘Gravity.’ It sounds so simple and yet it’s so seductive.
I hope I win, my beat-ass sony headphones need replacing badly.
My favorite for ’09: Fleetwood Mac – Dreams (Mingus Rude edit)
For ’10: Yo La Tengo – Little Eyes
🙂
Tycho – Coastal Break (Hatchback’s Cosmic Caviar Dub) = no ass kiss this is a legit favorite but man I’d love a pair of those headphones…
Coastal Brake by a LONG SHOT.
Entry no. 328 =)
I fell in love with Boyfriend by Best Coast, I dig the surf rock sound they have for sure.
you have completely hooked on TENNIS. i can play them on repeat time and time again… and completely fits into this groove of lo-fi rock bands that have dominated my summer.
It’s hard to choose between Dusty Brown and Mux Mool….
Dusty Brown it is.
tycho. for reals. love it.
Dusty Brown.
dusty brown is an all time favorite band.
Paul White!
The Radio Dept. is hands down, my favorite band. I remember you’ve posted domestic scene, but my favorite song of all time would have to be “Someone Else” of their Pulling Our Own Weight e.p.
Tame Impala is stellar and by far my favorite featured artist.
I’d never heard Shigeto before reading this blog; now my favorite electronic artist, hands down. Everything I’ve heard that he’s made, I’ve liked so far.
I’m liking Taylor Deupree – Rusted Oak
My gym earbuds are getting tired! This would be a nice upgrade for my workspace-listening.
Has to be Dusty Brown – This City Is Killing Me. I’ve been listening to that track nonstop since it came out.
And Tycho, of course.
oneoheotrix point never man he zehr gud
The Books – The Story of Hip-Hop
I’ve been waiting for new Books for A LONG time and it felt so good to get some.
Sepalcure. Lovely stuff…
Tycho, duh.
I can’t choose a favorite but I would have to say ONRA. Long Distance album is fresh summer time tunes.
Panda Bear by far!!!
Dusty Brown
Memoryhouse – Lately (Deuxième)
Beautiful, atmospheric wonder, the whole EP, really.
I Love them. Oh man. I really Love them
Thanks for turning me on to Com Truise. Loving Galactic Melt.
Pilooski’s edit of Del Shannon’s ‘Gemini’ is the perfect example of a song I wouldn’t have come across on my own and has since been rotating regularly.
Vincent Gallo For the Girl Paris Hilton was a song that got me into a chill frame of mind.
com truise – slow peels
i like the way it makes me feel like in 80’s again…
Everything and anything from LUSINE!
Listening to his amazingly tight production skills using these badboy cans would absolutely make my day!
This blog has turned me on to a lot of great music (and design), but if I had to choose I’d say Flying Lotus gave me the sounds I needed to produce this piece. http://www.nathanshinkle.com/2010/05/02/lacma/
Thanks for the constant stream of inspiration.
Panda Bear,
of course.
Well Tycho of course! Loving the Coastal Brake vinyl.
I also need to post Lusine as well. Loving that unique sound. Thanks for the intro.
Man, I love everything you guys post on this blog. I think one of my favorites lately had to have been the Memoryhouse Foxes in Fiction Cover.
Gorgeous!
Panda Bear!
My favorite artist that was posted has to be Bonobo. Opened me up to a new style of music that I can’t get enough of.
This guy can’t get enough rotation on my speakers thanks to your recommendation: Mux Mool
I would have to say Teen Daze…All kinds of good stuff.
Mux Mool’s Skulltaste!
Foxes in Fiction, indeed.
Man, that’s really a tough one. There’s so much good stuff posted here. I’m just gonna have to play it tight with props to Shigeto.
Four tet – angel echoes (caribou remix)
Jakub got me into Deastro a few years back.
Well i was introduced to Caribou by this here blog….i’ve really been into them ever since.
and here is a haiku on why i should win
Ghostly headphones would
cause me to smile and bring
good tunes to my head
My vote goes to Bonobo. I can listen to them all day, and it never gets boring.
I’m a huge fan of Tycho… everything from Sunrise Projector to Coastal Brake. Epic! There will never be enough of your fine music in this world, so please keep up the amazing work…. & don’t ever stop! THANKS.
It’s gotta be Korallreven.
Longmont Potion Castle, any “track”. Funniest prank calls.
I’d have to go with the Shigeto EP. Love love love that little gem.
Delorean – Infinate Desert, FTW! A big bowl of WIN in fact.
Toro y Moi!! dont know if it was posted this year, but that guy is good.
Bye Bye Bye from School of Seven Bells.
Among others. Depends on the day.
my favorite song would have to be mux mool’s remix of glad i met you by d gookin
i’d have to say lusine and gravity… but that’s pretty tough to narrow down. i’m sure it’ll change in 15 min.
Yagya. A great find.
Deru – Hello
Quite simply, Cirrus by Lusine
Dusty Brown has been a revelation -wakes me up in the morning, puts me to sleep at night. Big thanks for putting up such great music.
Vincent Gallo – I Wrote This Song For the Girl Paris Hilton
The Radio Dept. (Domestic scene). Heaven’s on fire is great too!
Mux mool – Lady Linda ! love it
Phantogram
What an amazing band! The videos, music, everything is amazing. Thank you!
Four tet – angel echoes (caribou remix)
Hello You by Casino Versus Japan.
Fantastic low key instrumental.
I went straight out and tried to buy Night on Tape after hearing that track here, but neither Rasputin nor Tower had it yet.
So I had to wait.
Flying Lotus – Zodiac
This may sound weird probably because I don’t think you’ve ever featured the music directly on here, but Alex Cornell would be my favorite so far. His kidnapping videos are a little out there but the dude has some dope covers.
I really liked Tycho. When I hear it, I feel like I’m on vacation!
minks or yagya, those tracks defined this summer
Rollerskaters – Sleep Tight
I’m going to have to say Keepaway. Yellow Wings was on constant repeat for a good amount of time.
RED HOUSE PAINTERS
The Mary Onettes.
Awful name, awesome album.
Panda Bear. Fully.
The Radio Dept. – Domestic Scene
Thanks for letting me discover this one
Gold Panda for sure!
Wow this site has a lot of followers now!
Lindstrøm & Christabelle – Lovesick (fourtet remix)
Anything by The Radio Dept. Perfect music for San Francisco weather!
The Blondes – Spanish Fly. Done.
My favorite is Matthew Dear – Black City Teaser
Dusty Br-izz-own’s latest EP.
I realize the CD is out, but I TOTALLY dug the EP when it got posted. LOVE that D-Browniness.
Tons and tons of great music. I can always depend on the ISO50 playlists for new ‘work’ music. I’ve had the most enjoyment out of Jackson’s Remix of Kavinsky’s Pacific Coast Highway. Kavinsky can do no wrong by me.
Have to go with Lately by Memoryhouse.
Washed Out. The March post turned me on to the guy and was responsible for a solid few weeks with the ep on repeat.
school of seven bells. new album is so sick.
Hook Me UP!
I have to say I love “I can change” from LCD Soud Systems most recent album and was extra happy the day I saw it posted on here!
I really enjoyed BVDUB – No More Reasons Not To Fall
I play that song everyday to relax.
BEST COAST – CRAZY FOR YOU
I love Lusine. Thanks for introducing me to so much great music.
Love getting a heads up on your Tycho productions here. Hope you can make it down to San Diego sometime in near future.
Really anything by Ratatat.
Well crap, thats a really hard question. But I’m going to say Shigeto because it’s the first thing to pop into my head and I have the ‘Impulsiveness Disadvantage’ =P
Also, Shigeto is one of the new artists added to my collection this year, while a lot of others that get mentioned on here I’ve known about for quite some time.
Washed Out – Feel It All Around
The Radio Dept. – Domestic Scene
Teen Daze is awesome.
“Saviour” is extremely beautiful.
I can’t help but feel like I’m dreaming while this tune is on!
Obviously Tycho is the best, but music that isn’t yours, then I would have to go with the Shigeto EP you posted. That was quite a find, and I have been listening to it non-stop since I stumbled upon it here.
P.S. Your blog is amazing.
Dusty Brown- This City Is Killing Me
Baths – Maximalist
Baths is an amazing artist. The way he blends everyday noise to make music is astonishing, as is his obvious and pure excitement for the music he creates.
http://pitchfork.com/tv/#/episode/2730-baths
huh. just one? :/
phantogram- mouthful of diamonds, because suddenly there was a lot of new style of music i didn’t listen before:)
it kinda connected me with the iso50 blog, with new perspective, new world, new source
Bonobo. Black Sands is a solid release.
Thanks to your blog i discover Gonja Sufi (whit the song Duet) since then… is on my top in itunes.
You posted an Interview with Tobacco awhile back and I’d have to say with the mixture of music, art, and track titles… he’s got my vote, for sure.
Plus BMSR is just an added bonus!
i’m gonna say tycho – i know its your blog and all, but that’s how i started reading your blog – i will also pull the slowdive card, too. been a fan of everything neil halstead for years….
the knife – “colouring of pigeons”
is for me by far the most amazing song that i heard this year.
thank you for your continued support of amazing artists!
Favorite song of the last year: The recently posted “Lately” by Memoryhouse. Ghostly and beautiful, it doesn’t feel completely real. Sort of like a Murikami book. Thanks!
Your blog brought the Twoism label to my attention and I am so very appreciative. Great music and the logical extension to the B of C sound. Anyhow, I am a longtime DJ and now fledgeling producer who could really use a nice pair of headphones, especially ones so beautifully designed. Keep up the great work!!
Computer Magic, the first sentence of your post sold me:
“Brooklyn’s Computer Magic is just one girl that makes some great lo-fi indie synth material, this song Electronic Fences makes me think if Nite Jewel had to do a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s I’m On Fire it would come out sounding something like this.”
“feel it all around” by washed out.
i don’t know when i’ve heard it, but it haunts me still.
cheers.
my favorite 2009 song i found on this blog:
Peter Broderick & Machinefabriek: Homecoming.
“feel it all around” by washed out
don’t remember when i heard it but it haunts me still
cheers.
I’ve been into the Yagya record that was posted last (this?) week…
That weed song that was posted recently was sickkk
I like Sun Araw.
The second I heard the track, “Yellow” by The Samps, I went immediately to their site to buy their record on vinyl. Loving it!
Also, did I mention that my AKG headphones recently started buzzing in the low end? Could definitely use these TMA-1s
“beatcop” – by Sun Araw
Tycho wins for me all the time but non tycho I would say dusty brown this city is killing me
You by Gold Panda
Such a beautiful and unique track.
because I had to go into the loft to get down the old vinyl and play them all again… Dragonflies by Red House Painters
Boards of Canada – Kaini Industries
Since the first moment their music hit my ears in 1995, I have been in love. And I will always be in love. Bibio did a fine job on the remix, played during your playlist in January.
I liked Ratatat’s Cherry a lot. I already knew them for Classics, but wasn’t really aware of their most recent works.
Dusty Brown for sure, so fresh.
Dusty Brown, really enjoyed the new EP, especially Back to Back.
Leave Everywhere by Toro Y Moi
School Of Seven Bells – Dust Devil
COM TRUISE BABY!
Has to be Whitest Boy Alive for me!
i loved and still love “feel it al around” by washed out.
greettings from portugal!
Obviously late on this bandwagon, but I’m going to echo the dusty brown ep you posted. Fantastic tunes, my favorite is “This City is Killing Me”.
Going to have to go with Dusty Brown – The City is Killing Me. That track is amazing. Love the sound.
Gold Panda.
Dusty Brown was quite nice.
oval.
happy to hear new things.
Com Truise – Slow Peels
Love that white noise intro!
Mux Mool – Skulltaste. Refreshing album.
“Burn me out from the inside” for sure. So chill.
The Whitest Boy Alive – Intentions
Lately when I’m going crazy while working, I just play this song and it makes me relax and remember that I have to enjoy what I’m doing 😉
Flying Lotus – Zodiac, Cosmogramma album of the year – probably. 🙂
The Sight Below.
I grabbed the Fight Softly after hearing The Ruby Suns in a mix you posted. Wish Foxes in Fiction was on vinyl!
Mux Mool.
There’s something refreshing about finishing an intense 14er and letting Skulltaste spin while winding back down the dirt roads.
Thanks for the introduction to Emeralds – Candy Shoppe, and of course your Daydream and Coastal Brake tracks are on in my workspace every day.
Thank you for introducing me to the morning benders!
Excuses is such a dirty track
Been loving Mux mool, very unique sound there!
loved the fourtet via caribou jam: “angel echos”
I’d have to say Best Coast, I’ve completely fallen in love with them.
Yo La Tengo all the way, baby.
Viernes, great LP..hooked instantly
That Dusty Brown EP is perfect.
loved the shigeto ep, thanks for posting it up!
The Morning Benders! I bought ‘Big Echo’ and i must say it is one of the albums of the year for me.
Respect!
Deerhunter – Revival
MUX MOOL love it
Well gee, that’s tough. But I’m gonna have to go with Mux Mool’s new album Skulltaste. The album evokes feelings of nostalgia, where I’d be up really late hopped up on soda and playing video games in the dark. Plus the art is really cool and the beats are very danceable.
Definitely the ISO50 Exclusive Slow Hands Mix! I downloaded it to my iPod straight away and brought it with me on a weekend trip to my moms house with my girlfriend. The house is located in the southern part of Denmark on the island called Fyn. We camped in a tent in the garden right by the water, and one morning I put on the mix on a small transportable speaker that my girlfriend built for me, and we just chilled and ate breakfast which my mom brought down to our tent. Words couldn’t describe how happy we were, so I’m glad that we had the mix 🙂
My favorite has to be RATATAT, Cherry …so good!
My favorite has to be RATATAT, Cherry …so good! great group.
Definitely a tough question to answer definitively, but I would have to say Caribou for artist.
Caribou creates almost a new niche in dance music and creates a feeling and energy that distinguishes himself amongst an immense sea of other artists. I had the opportunity to see Caribou live in Tempe recently and was very impressed how they presented the album in a live setting. The energy and music was spot on and surprised me in the best way.
Shigeto or Four Tet. I can’t decide. Both are almost always on repeat while I’m working.
Cheers.
Easily: “Odessa” by Caribou. My favorite track for every road trip this summer, and I heard it here first. I’ll need those headphones to listen to it at my desk, once the road trips subside. 🙂
I really liked Jakub’s post on childhood memories. The photo of Jakub’s mother has a really innocent quality to it. My favorite ISO50 post ever. As to my favorite song/band, I don’t listen to the music posted, BUT I do remember listening to Enya the day I found out my grandpa died, that was a moment I’ll never forget.
Coastal Brake! All great artists, songs and posts. I could list many if not all. But TYCHO has been very inspiration for me as I work on my solo gallery show at Amelia Hyde Gallery in SF 01/2011. Grand Opening 08/20.
Your post about Yagya’s Rigning led me to buy the whole album and it’s been on heavy rotation since. Powerful, haunting…makes me want to drive at ridiculous speeds…or shoot video…or cast off this earthly suit and grow some wings…
Keep that good stuff comin’!
Probably Mux Mool, there is a lot of other awesome stuff, but I had no idea Mux Mool and co. existed till you posted some.
Mux Mool’s “Morning Strut” remains my favorite from this year.
Beirut – The Concubine. My favorite song, surprised you have it… I love horns and accordions and waltz. Such sophistication, you don’t have that around a lot with music in my opinion.
Loving Sun Araw at the moment – especially the track Stakeout – super nice.
I’m gunna have to say Berimbau (Shigeto edit) artist: Astrud Gilberto
with Bonobo’s “Black Sands” as my top album this year so far
Washed Out – The Fantastic Symphony Mix
Sign me up – The School of Seven Bells
Fever ray’s music videos were so stylish and in accordance with her music that it made a lasting impression but none larger than coastal brake on vinal boyeee
School of Seven Bells
Oneohtrix Point Never – Zones Without People
Awesome space out/creative work music. And it would sound GREAT on a good pair of headphones *nudge nudge*
This was really difficult. I love just about everything posted on ISO50. I’d have to say Tame Impala. Innerspeaker is one of the best albums I’ve heard in a long time.
I agree with HAZIM, dubstep is often hit or miss with me, but I absolutely LOVE what hits. Jakub, your taste in dubstep is highly compatible with mine. Shigeto and Sepalcure just to name a few, hit hard for me.
On another note, might I recommend checking out DUNIAN. I’m sure it’s post-worthy. His EP is available for free download through his myspace.
Coastal Brake by Tycho is the bees knees.
Man, so many good songs and artists this year, but I would have to say Stars cover of Charming Man by The Smiths was my most played. Thank you iso50blog for bringing that gem to my attention.
The Caribou remix of angel echos by Four Tet
Com Truise. He keeps blowing my mind, and those Komputer Cast mixes are amazing.
This is such a tough call, so many choice artists and tracks have been mentioned on this blog. In the end, I’d have to go with “You” by Gold Panda, that track has been on repeat in my house for months, and the EP as a whole gets tore through on a regular basis.
Runner up, “Costal Break”, such a stellar track. Tycho = Riding bike on a Summer day, sun on your face, feeling fine.
Costal Brake by Tycho is undeniable.
Bonobo Black Sands has been playing for a while now and it still sounds soo good.
yo la tengo – little eyes, mmm, good sounds
Bonobo!
Being a long time reader, I feel a bit silly mentioning something posted so recently, but I think I have to go with the recent fourtet+pandabear+caribou+starslinger post
Being an Animal Collective fan since Spirit… the prospect of new Panda Bear is delirious, especially couched as it is between a remix by Fourtet, and a remix of Fourtet, by old old favourite Caribou…!
Among all the music you post, it’s the unusual remixes that I get the least exposure to in my regular listening habits. Many thanks for bringing them into my life.
**previous comment chewed up by spam filter (?); removed link to aforementioned post**
Emeralds. So pumped that they’re touring with Caribou this fall.
Dominik Eulberg – Daten-Ubertragungs-Kusschen (Sistema Remix)
It’s rare that I can play a song as many times as this one and still enjoy it every time.
“Lately (Deuxieme)” by Memoryhouse is the song I keep coming back to on Playlist 9. It has to have the best use of sampling ever, but maybe I’m biased because “Eternal Sunshine” still makes me sigh.
Phantogram- Mouthful of Diamonds.
Nice tune!
ps- your blog is so exemplary!
Cheers, y’all!
Flying Lotus & House Shoes – The Makings
Difficult choice. I just started visiting this blog back in March. Even did a report on it (a report about blogs in media). Needless to say I’ve started listening to quite a few more artists through this blog. Keep up the good work & thanks!
JORI HULKKONEN – I AM DEAD (CFCF REMIX)!
So far this year there has been a TON of amazing tracks. It’s pretty hard – but out of all the tracks i keep coming back to listen to and play as loud as my speakers play in my apartment – it’s this track. I think it would sound pretty amazing coming out of these TMA-1’s.
Bonobo – Black Sands
That album puts me in a trance when i design… Good stuff.
TORO Y MOI – Leave Everywhere
Just love everything about that song!
The Morning Benders – Cold War
Such a great track and a awesome start to the playlist!
Tame Impala – Alter Ego
COM TRUISE – IWYWAW !
Kings of Convenience – Mrs. Cold
Cheers!
Gonjasufi
My discovery of Gonjasufi from you guys is definitely one of my musical highlight of the year so far!
“lately” – memoryhouse.
for merely this one song, let alone the whole blog, i owe you my entire 2010. thank you.
-topher.
The Morning Benders have by far been my favorite find this year, but there really have been so many that I love… it really is hard to narrow it down to one.
Little Dragon – Feather,
Yukimi Nagano’s voice is just beautiful and I am absolutely in love with this band.
Caribou – Odessa. Such a beautiful track with such sad lyrics, and equally melancholic music video.
loving Com Truise. troofs. peadhhones.
I’m with Ben on the Morning Benders… can’t stop listening to them.
Cold War, Pleasure Sighs, Mason Jar… so many good tracks on this album, it’s mind blowing!
Thanks so much for the introduction.
Definitely – CASINO VERSUS JAPAN
Lorn – Cherry Moon!!!
Many good tunes, but favorite is probably Baths- Maximalist
Really digging it.
Bonobo – All in Forms
Thank-you for re-introducing me to electronic music!
The Radio Dept. – Heaven’s
thanks for the great music!!
off the top id go with taylor dupree. literally put it on repeat when goin to sleep. it gives sweet dreams…
memoryhouse – lately

Ratatat: Party With Children
I really dig “Heavens On Fire” by the Radio Dept… Rolling!
“Truth in the music, who can refuse it”
Tycho!! =)
THE SAMPS
The ‘This City Is Killing Me’ EP from Dusty Brown.
I’d been following them for a couple years and kept getting blocked from getting their stuff by ‘sold out’ banners, so I was definitely really happy when you guys released it here for free!
electronic fences by computer magic was the first thing to pop into my mind.

There psychedelic influenced sounds blow your mind.
So lucky to see them in two weeks in berlin.
Sigur Ros! Missed the release of a new single I found here some time ago. Good music for designing 🙂

sade
i couldn’t love you more
Washed Out – Belong I love the nostalgic feeling of this song, It brings me some good memories of my holidays in France with my parents when i was young. Butttt… i can’t remember everything. I hope this headphone can turn a “No Fi” song into a Hi Fi song.. and maybe i remember it again… 🙂

Trans-bedroom Sound. Beautiful layering and texture. Great find
Adelaide – Bombardiers
Great song!
Fever Ray – When I Grow Up always gives me a good vibe.
I think Caribou – Odessa. Love the multidimensional/multilayer sounds of this song.
Whether this song sounds better with this headphone compare to my ex monitor, that still needs to be proven…
Yes I would agree with Caribou-Odessa as well, totally turned myself and a bunch of other jaxsonvillians on to an amazing track and album. Although i am still digging that moodgadget comp too!

The first line she says is so amazing – “We were sleeping ’til you came along…with your diamond heart.” That line went so perfect with what I was going through at the time. Seriously spot on. I love the entire song but that line hooked me. I love the entire album too. It was my go to album for the longest time. I still listen to it pretty frequently.

I’ve really enjoyed listening to Tycho while retouching photos and designing. It’s super relaxing to just press play and get to work.
I think Im going to say Atlas Sound.
Or anything Toro y Moi, Tame Impala, Caribou, Delorean will work too. It can go on forever.

The main reason I visit is Scott’s music, haha. So it would have to be Tycho. I’m not trying to shine on that. The Past is Prologue is the first and only album I ever ordered online.
I can not stop listening to the song “Loss for Words” by Solvent.
Mux Mool – I never realized SNES-era sounds and R&B beats could be so perfectly combined.

Well, Tycho of course !
Oh Bonobo and Phantogram
I can’t get over how great Dusty Brown’s “This City Is Killing Me” is. I’ve had it on since you posted it on here and it’s just a brilliant, amazingly done EP and even though it’s only 5 tracks, it’s a frontrunner for my favorite releases of 2010. Headphones or not, thank you for the introduction.

Souls of Gold – Sister Crayon
Lorn – Cherry Moon
Totally underated album that has slipped through the cracks with most people. Really dark vibe and some beautiful tunes! That album would sound killer through these headphones!
rollerskaters – sleep
or
the xx – islands
both songs are fantastic and really up my alley. i’m glad you expose people with great music! i know music elitists that don’t share good music out of fear of popularity and eventually selling out, but what’s better than sharing music?
Definitely either
School of Seven Bells
or Guardian, the “Wins the World Cup” mix.

Morning Benders are always awesome. I especially liked the YT videos you all posted.
